DAY 6: SANTA BABY

DAY 6: SANTA BABY

pairing: isaac lahey x fem!reader

summary: you and isaac gift each other the perfect present during secret santa

warnings: none i think

notes: sorry this was such a delay

the pack was sitting around the christmas tree, unpacking the various presents they had gifted each other.

"who is mine?" isaac asked excitedly.

you raised your arm smiling at him. you grabbed your bag and gently pulled out the present for him. "here you go"

"cool" isaac gushed while taking the box from you "i had you" he smiled, while reaching behind his back and holding a present in your direction.

"thank you" you both smiled at the same time and neither of you could take your eyes away from the other.

"aren't you going to open it?" stiles asked from next to you.

"uuh, yeah of course" you quickly took your eyes off of isaac and started to unpack your present.

isaac seemed to be a bit faster than you. "what is it?" scott asked and you looked up, giggling as you notice scott trying to braid lydia's long hair and failing miserably.

isaac doesn't answer. his eyes were fixated on the thing in his hand. he frowned and you grew scared for a second, maybe what you had bought him wasn't the right choice after all.

"y/n" he looked up at you and you were ready for him to be disappointed, but instead he smiled. "thank you"

"what is it?" lydia tried to look over isaac’s shoulder, what tempted scott to quickly pull her back.

"you're ruining the braid" scott warned.

isaac turned around to him, to show lydia the cd in his hand. "it's a cd my mom used to play for me when i was a kid. sadly it broke a few years ago and i wasn't able to find it anywhere" he turned back around at you, still obviously in wonder "how did you possibly find this?"

"i checked a lot of stores, but it's not sold anymore" you explained "then i visited my grandpa and he still had it from back when he bought it in store. it was basically free" you cringed "sorry i didn't spend any money on it" you felt bad immediately. you hadn’t even thought about this before.

"are you kidding?" isaac laughed, getting up from his seat and hugging you "this is the best gift ever!"

"a personal present of sentimental value" stiles nodded "great, yeah, amazing even. now open yours" he looked at the still wrapped box in your lap. "it's star wars time in ten minutes and i'm not waiting on anybody" he looked around the room warningly.

"geez" lydia raised her hands while she got on her feet. her hair looked like a bird had nested in it, all while scott watched his work proudly. "i'm gonna make a quick run to the bathroom" she excused, leaving the room

you continued to unwrap isaac's gift, but stopped in your movement, while you recognized a familiar pattern. "no" you shook your head, pulling the sweater out of the box gently. "my grandma’s sweater" you smiled "the one stiles ruined last summer" you send a spiteful look in the boys direction.

"i told you it was an accident"

"how did you make the stain go away? i thought it was ruined"

"the dad of a friends friend has this shop were they specialize in fixing ruined clothing" isaac exclaimed shrugging "i just asked for a simple favour"

you rushed out of your seat, hugging the boy. "thank you"

"no problem" isaac smiled "seems like you and i had pretty similiar ideas"

"yes" you said and again you couldn't take your eyes from his face, a face that was pretty close to yours now.

before you were able to lean over and possibly connect your lips, the tv announced the movie starting.

"couch! now!" stiles almost screamed, pushing you all to sit down. you sat beside isaac and when scott and stiles didn't look, he softly interlocked your hands.

you smiled at the gesture and at him. laying your head on his shoulder while the movie started.

you almost shrieked out of your seat, when there was a scream. "scott!" lydia bellowed from the direction of the bathroom.

you and isaac laughed when she walked back into the living room, looking even worse than before. it seemed like she had tried to loosen the hairstyle scott had did and had made it even worse.

"what is that?" she pointed to her head.

before scott could answer, stiles shushed all of you. "sit down and watch the movie" her head turned to him quickly "ehh- please"

to your surprise lydia actually complied to stile's request.

"honestly" isaac whispered in your ear "does christmas ever get less crazy?"

"never" you whispered back "but i'm glad that you are here and we can agree on the craziness"

Invisible String

pairing: isaac lahey x fem!reader

summary: the three times isaac and you realized that you were connected by an invisible string

warnings: none i think

note: just imagine kitchen and dining room of the mccall house being in different rooms please!!

1. when you guys met for the first time

isaac lahey did not expect anyone to jump to his rescue, let alone give him a home in a world where he had no place to go. maybe it was just because he always thought that he did not deserve that kind of care. and he had been right, right until he had met scott mccall at least.

the boy that had made it his mission to save isaac and bring him home with him. like a friend, or even a brother.

at first it was hard for isaac to face that it was just incredible kindness that motivated scott to do what he did, he didn't have a reason for it, it was not of any worth, no, actually, it was just nice.

"tell me if you need anything else" scott patted his shoulder, before he left the guest room, leaving isaac sitting on the bed.

"thank you" isaac muttered more to himself than anyone else, hiding his face in his hands and breathing out in relief. he was safe and he knew it.

when he came down to dinner later, scott was already setting the table. isaac turned his head to look into the kitchen, but there was no sight of melissa, just an unfamiliar girl, who was stirring a pot.

the first thing that he noticed were the amount of bracelets that covered your arms, they did not have any specific color, they were ranging from pink to brown to green and they nearly covered your entire arms up to the elbow.

you were also incredibly beautiful, as you were starring into the pot in deep concentration, not even noticing his eyes on you.

"isaac?" scott called and isaac turned his head, walking away from the kitchen and back into the dining room.

"where's your mom?" he asked, taking the glasses from scott and setting them down on the table.

"she had to take an extra shift" scott explained.

"okay" isaac nodded "who's the girl in the kitchen?"

"girl in the kitchen?" scott repeated laughing "are you trying to prank me?"

isaac shook his head, unsure if scott was joking or if he really didn't know that there was a girl in his kitchen.

"she's cooking" isaac shrugged and scott furrowed his brows, seemingly just now noticing the smell of warm and delicious soup that was hanging in the air.

"mom left us some soup" scott said "but i still have to warm it" he looked between dining room and kitchen in confusion. "girl in the kitchen" he repeated again, muttering to himself.

"i already warmed it for you" you said as you entered the room, under both boys surprised shrieking, the pot filled with soup in your hand. you set it down on the table.

"y/n" scott breathed, directing a hand to his chest as he sighed in relief.

"hey" you smiled, before you hugged the boy. "you must be isaac" you shook isaacs hand smiling "i'm y/n"

"what are you even doing here?" scott asked, before isaac was able to answer the greeting "i thought you weren't back for another week"

"well i got off a bit sooner, but thanks for beeing so cheerful about it" you laughed, walking into the kitchen to get a plate for yourself.

"is she a friend of yours?" isaac asked "and if so, why have i never met her?"

"yeah, she's stiles' younger sister" scott explained as he sat down and isaac followed his example "she was studying abroad for a year"

"stiles should be here any minute" you noted, taking a look on your phone as you sat down across from the boys. "but i think it would be alright if we began to eat without him"

"so you're back huh?" scott nodded "and the first thing you decide is to come back here.. wait, how did you even come inside?"

"oh" you laughed, filling your plate with soup "i came through the window"

"if that isn't the typical stilinski manner" scott muttered disapprovingly.

"i could come through your bedroom window and step onto your face if you would like that more" you said defensively, "i thought the kitchen window was a good alternative, not my fault you leave them open all the time"

"i'm sorry" scott rolled his eyes, deciding that it was no use to fight with you. "how have you been?"

"good" you smiled "look at these" you raised your arms, displaying the colorful bracelets "my kids made them for me before i left"

"your kids?" isaac asked, hesitantely engaging in the conversation.

"i trained a dance team" you explained "all the girls made me bracelets so that i wouldn't forget them"

"that’s cool” isaac muttered, before he quickly looked down when your eyes fell on him.

you smiled. "so scott told me you're living with him now, how's the mccall household treating you?"

scott chuckled at the motherly tone you were speaking in, always the protector.

"it's pretty fresh" isaac answered and felt a lot less uncomfortable when he looked up and saw you smile "but i really appreciate it"

"that's great" you laughed. isaac noticed you opening your mouth to maybe ask another question when you were interrupted by a sound upstairs.

a mere second later, stiles was walking down the stairs. "hey guys"

"could you both please stop coming into the house through the windows?" scott asked "it's weird"

"no it's not" you and stiles said at the same time. your brother smiled as you patted the seat next to you. "i made soup"

"no" scott corrected "my mom made soup, you just happened to break into my house and warm it up before i got the chance to"

"your mom... your house" you muttered "these are harsh words to throw at someone who's been practically saving your ass since middle school, scotty"

"yeah, aren't we all a big family?" stiles asked outstretching his hands in scott's direction, who looked unamused at the siblings chatter.

"yeah" isaac nodded.

"not you blondie" stiles hissed, quickly smiling again as he noticed scott's disapproving look.

"oh, how i missed you both together" scott sighed, continuing to eat, while stiles and you started a discussion about the ending of the most recent star wars film.

isaac watched amused how everything seemed to set back into place, your dynamic making it clear that the three of you were like siblings. deep down he wished that he had something like this as well, a friendship that could make all his sorrows disappear.

later when isaac was up in the guest room, unpacking a few things, there was a knock on his door. thinking that it was scott, isaac called the person in without looking.

"looks pretty comfortable" it was not scott, but you who was now standing in the door.

"uh, yeah" isaac answered unsurely, clutching his hand to the back of his neck.

"scott told me about derek" you said, catching him off-guard "and i just wanted to say that i know that he can be harsh sometimes, but he'll come around"

"thank you" isaac nodded, sitting down the last of his pictures.

"is that your mom?" you asked, walking closer to him. isaac nodded and you smiled "i think i have seen her before, i think she went to high school with my mom"

"really?" isaac asked suprised at your revelation.

"we met her a few times" you continued "my mom told me a few stories, they were friends i believe"

"huh" isaac huffed "funny"

"yeah" you smiled "it really is"

his body felt lighter at the warm feeling of familiarity that entered his chest. maybe, after all, the kind of friendship he was longing for wasn't so far away.

2. picking you up from the worst date of your life

the phone vibrated off the night table, but isaac caught it before it could hit the ground. he wasn't really awake yet, having gone to bed a bit sooner than normal. as he threw a look at his alarm clock, he noticed the time being well past midnight.

"hello?" his voice was hoarse, but it seemed like the person on the other end did not mind.

"isaac?" you asked and he sat up straight as he recognized your voice.

"y/n?"

"yes, it's me" he could hear you cry into the phone "could you come and pick me up?"

he was already putting on his pants, before your voice had even come to the end of the sentence. "where are you?"

it took a few seconds for you to respond. "i'm at the school, i'm walking there now"

"are you alone?" isaac asked surprised, recalling the date with a boy from your year you had told him about just a day before.

"yes" you muttered into the phone. isaac walked out of the house and got into his car. "the date was horrible"

"i'm sorry" he said, unsure what he could answer instead, as he drove onto the street "i'll stay on the phone, okay? i'll be there in five minutes"

"i'm sorry for calling" you cried, the guilt lacing your voice "i probably woke you up, but i didn't know who else to call"

"it's alright, don't worry about it"

"no, it's not" he could hear you shake your head "i would've called stiles or scott, but they've gone on that stupid trip to who knows where trying to get this artifact"

"yeah, yeah, i know" isaac could already see the school coming closer "are you there yet? at the school i mean"

"yeah, i'm standing on the parking lot"

just a moment later, the car came to a halt and you opened the door, sliding into the seat next to him. you were wearing a black dress, one that was making you look even more beautiful than normally. your hair was flowing over your shoulders and your make up was ruined by the black mascara that was still dripping over your cheeks.

"hey" isaac said softly "you look beautiful"

you laughed, closing your eyes "i look anything but beautiful" you argued "thank you for coming, i would've walked home, but-"

he interrupted you before you could finish your sentence "-i'm glad you called"

"thank you" you said again and isaac just smiled, driving the car back onto the street. he pressed the radio, making the cd that was still in it start to play.

"paramore?" you asked susprised "i wouldn't have held you for a fan"

isaac laughed "i even went to their concert a few years ago"

"really? so did i" you gushed "which year?"

"2006"

"me too" you laughed "who would've thought"

your sadness evaporated into thin air, as you continued to listen to the music, both isaac and you singing along to it softly, making you laugh at how terrible the both of you sounded.

isaac's body felt lighter at the warm feeling of familiarity that entered his chest for the second time since the both of you had met. maybe, after all, there was a much more important reason why your date had went the way it did. maybe something had changed.

3. discovering you were soulmates all along

you were following your brother and scott into the basement of the old church, careful not to trip over the ruins that were scattered all around.

isaac was close behind you, holding your hand to stabalize your walk.

derek was already down there, calling for the four of you to hurry up, which made you roll your eyes.

"it's not like i'm a werewolf who can run down there without getting hurt"

isaac grunted at your words, squeezing your hand.

when the four of you entered the dark room, derek was already leaning against the wall, arms crossed staring at you disapprovingly.

"i hope you didn't have to wait for too long" you smiled sarcastically and derek rolled his eyes, making a displeasured sound.

"what are we even searching for?" isaac asked as he watched scott and stiles walk through the room, looking around.

"anything" scott shrugged and stiles grimaced at his best friends words.

"to put it clearly" the boy said "we don't know yet, but i'll guarantee that you will as soon as it enters your hand" he patted isaac's shoulder, before he continued searching the room.

"fine" isaac muttered and you followed him to look at an old desk that was overflown by stacks of paper. silence flew over the five of you, as you continued sorting through the papers, only interrupted by isaac or you giggling when one of you would make a whispered joke.

"woah" scott's voice bounced off the walls and made all of you turn your heads at the mccall boy.

"what the—" stiles said, joining scott's side and looking at whatever it was that scott was holding in his hand. even derek had grown suspicious, lurking over the heads of both boys, before all three, scarily at the same time, looked up at isaac and you across from them.

"what?" you laughed uncomfortably, not enjoying your friends surprised staring. "did i accidently ruin a christian artifact again?" you asked as no one answered.

"again?" isaac asked you confused, you shook your head, silently telling him that now was not the right time to talk about your past mishaps.

"what is it?" you were slowly reaching the point were slight annoyance was ready to turn into anger. "can one of your start speaking?"

"it's a picture" derek said in typical derek manner.

"wow, thank you" you smiled sarcastically, before you crossed the room, snatching the picture out of scott's hand. your blood ran cold when your eyes fell on it and your smile died.

you looked up, watching isaac, then your eyes darted immediately back to the picture. you continued doing that over and over again.

"y/n?" isaac asked, unsurely. he had hoped that you getting the picture from scott would allow him an answer to your friends weird behaviour, instead you were now acting just as weird.

he stepped closer to you and without a word, you turned the picture and held it in his direction. it was a picture of the exact church you were in right now, taken in front of the alter.

there were two people, dressed formally, no doubt husband and wife, who were both smiling into the camera. isaacs eyes darted across the picture, searching for any kind of information, maybe this was just a joke.

"marlene and ian lawson" he read "june of 1847"

"this is a joke, right?" you asked. it had to be, because both people in the picture were looking like carbon copies of you and isaac.

"i don't think so" scott muttered behind you.

isaac's eyes were still fixated on the picture. using his finger, he gently slid over the woman's dress, the white gown easily slipping over the floor of the church. while she was looking into the camera, her husband was only focused on her, his smile so precious that you could read the love from it directly.

"it has to be" you insisted "isaac"

he looked up suddenly as his name rang out from your mouth. his body felt lighter at the warm feeling of familiarity that entered his chest. his eyes were crashing into yours and your look of anger was gone, softening your features.

"i don't think it is a joke, y/n" isaac shook his head "i think it's more than that"

isaac had never felt the feeling he was experiencing now, but it almost felt like a part of his soul was connecting to yours, intertwining them like two hands that had been searching for each other for a long time.

you furrowed your brows "you think this means something, something for us?"

"i don't know" isaac shrugged "it could"

just watching you, was like flowing in warm water, the water never rose, it was always calm, safe from every storm.

your friends turned around, not quite understanding what the two of you were talking about, going back to their initial task of searching for clues, as you took the picture out of isaac's hand. you opened your bag, slowly pushing it inside.

"i will keep it for us" you assured, before you kissed his cheek, doing the same as the others and going back to work.

isaac felt something in him sink, not in a bad way. more like an anchor that was thrown into the water, making sure that the ship would not leave the harbor, making sure that he would never leave you.

Hits Different

pairing: isaac lahey x fem!reader

summary: isaac and you both like each other, it just takes some time for you to realize that the other does as well..

warnings: underage drinking

notes: this should've been posted yesterday.. i'm so sorry

"have any of you seen y/n?" isaacs voice beamed off the walls of the large room and both derek and scott turned their heads so sudden, he wondered if he had just interrupted something.

"y/n?" scott wondered "haven't seen her since school"

"well, obviously she's not here" derek exclaimed with a roll of his eyes and isaac sighed.

"i know" he stretched "i just wondered if any of you knew where exactly she is" he widened his eyes to make a point, which was answered with another eye roll from derek and a shrug from scott. "well, thank you for all the help. i'll go find her myself then"

"she might be hanging out with stiles" scott said as isaac was already walking out of the door.

despite scott being not sure, isaac decided that it did not hurt to drive to stiles' house and have a look for himself. he often found you in the company of the boy, which sometimes made him wonder if there was going more than friendship between the both of you.

he stopped the car before stiles house and got out, walking up the front porch and knocking on the door.

"hey" stiles exclaimed when he swung open the door.

"hey" isaac greeted "i'm looking for y/n" he explained, before he tried to take a look inside "is she here?"

stile shook his head "no, she mentioned something about a club, and some other friend that was going with her"

"huh" isaac nodded, with a tight-lipped smile. "thats kind of weird of her, isn't it?"

stiles just shrugged his shoulders and isaac nodded finally.

"okay, ehm, thanks man"

"sure" stiles nodded with a tightlipped smile, at the lack of movement from isaac, he raised his brows "is there still something i can help you with?"

"uh, yeah" isaac smiled uncomfortably "what's the name of the club?"

"the sinema, i guess" stiles replied shrugging "it's the only club around here"

"yeah, right" isaac raised his arm, lazily waving goodbye, before he walked back to his car.

"is there one story that does not involve isaac lahey?" your friend, amy, loudly asked your, trying to be heard over the music.

"sorry" you replied "we're just very close"

"yeah, yeah" amy nodded her head, having heard enough of the boy in the last hour "that's exactly why you're gonna get drunk out of your mind and forget all about him"

"i'm not sure that's how it works" you noted.

"well it does in my books" amy furrowed her brows, holding the tequila shot in your direction.

you took the glass, admitting that you couldn't think of a better solution yourself, so it couldn't hurt to try hers. anything to get your mind of the blonde boy was greatly appreciated.

the night passed by quickly, you were a drunken mess, slurring about everything and anything.

"you know what i find weird?" you asked amy, both of you laying in the sitting booth of the club.

"no, what?" amy replied, a giggle breaking out between her lips. you joined into her laughter, unable to contain yourself, before you quickly shook your head, focusing back on the matter you were trying to discuss.

"well, scott said that isaac doesn't fancy kylie" you began, rolling your eyes at the name of the girl. at the same time you felt kind of bad, she hadn't done anything to you and yet here you were, saying her name like she had ran over your dog. "but if that's true, why is he always sending her these fuck me eyes?"

"fuck me eyes?" amy repeated, giggling once again "i'm not sure that's a thing, honey"

"i'm sure it is, i've seen it first-hand from stiles to lydia"

amy laughed even louder amidst the fact that you had spied on other people to prove your point.

"i think that's just stiles personally" she shrugged.

the thing about being drunk was that there was no way to direct any feelings, when you were drunk, your mood shifted like you were sitting on a roller coaster.

"can you please take this seriously?" you asked, your tone etched in annoyance and frustration.

"but you're being ridiculous" amy shook her head and you sat up, crossing your arms.

"i'm not trying to be" you muttered, the first tears escaping your eyes.

"y/n, sweetheart" amy cooed, sitting up as well and dropping an arm around your shoulder. "don't cry about him again please" you felt bad that it was your fault that the mood had shifted so drastically. both of you had so much fun all night and now you had gone and spoiled the mood.

"sorry" you cried. "i just miss isaac so much and i wish that he would miss me too whenever we're not together"

unbeknownst to you, isaac did miss you just as much as you were missing him.

"excuse me?" the bouncer turned around, raising his brows at the boy that was absolutely not dressed like he was going clubbing.

"what?" the man asked, watching the blonde boy expectingly.

"i was searching for my friend" isaac explained "she's about this tall" he held a hand up, before he continued to describe the color and length of your hair, what you were probably wearing and how your voice sounded "she's really pretty, really nice, most of the time at least" he ended his description.

the bouncer, who was ready to turn the boy away with an annoyed 'do you think i know everyone inside?', paused, when he noticed two girls stumbling out of the entrance. "that her?" he asked, pointing a finger in their direction.

"wow" isaac muttered impressed, before he nodded "yeah, thanks man" he patted the bouncer's shoulder, before he walked up to amy and you.

"isaac" you slurred as you recognized the boy behind amy.

"yeah, yeah" amy nodded "we already discussed him, honey"

"no" you shook your head, pointing again "isaac!"

amy almost sighed in relief when she noticed the boy approaching. even though she had the same amount of tequila shots as you, she had calmed down a bit and was way less drunk than you. she could handle alcohol much better than you anyway.

"hey" isaac smiled with a lopsided grin.

"isaac!" you slurred once again and the blonde boy laughed at your excitement.

"do you think you could take her home?" amy asked "my boyfriend just came and we want to stay a bit longer. i'd invite the both of you along, but i think y/n's had enough"

"of course" isaac nodded "no problem"

"thank you" amy smiled gratefully, before she hugged you goodbye and pointed her boyfriend out to isaac, so he was sure she was not alone waiting for him.

"bye!" you slurred in her direction as she took off.

isaac watched you in silent amusement. "let's go home, yeah?" he smiled and you nodded, your eyes already halfway closed.

he helped you to the car, all while you put on a tremendous rendition of taylor swifts 'love story'. you missed half the lyrics and weren't singing the right notes, but isaac didn't mind.

"pretty good" he complimented laughing once your singing had been finished.

"thank you, isaac" you smiled at him, dragging out his name. "your name is so beautiful" you smiled before you repeated pronouncing it slower every time.

the sunlight streamed through the window, hitting your face and waking you up with an unpleasant grogginess. your head throbbed, and your mouth felt like it was stuffed with cotton. slowly, you opened your eyes and glanced around, realizing you were in your own bed. relief washed over you briefly before flashes of the previous night trickled back.

you remembered the club, the tequila shots, and then… isaac. you groaned, hiding your face in the pillow, trying to bury the embarrassing memories. what had you said to him? something about his name being beautiful. you cringed inwardly. you could not remember his answer, nor anything that happened after.

a sudden noise from the front door made you sit up abruptly, the room spinning a little from the movement. you steadied yourself, listening. someone was trying to come into the house. your heart raced as you quickly as you oustretched your hand, reaching for the phone on the bedside table.

"amy?" you whispered as soon as you friend had picked up.

"y/n?" amy wondered. you could tell that she had just woken up herself, her voice almost breaking. "who's that?" another voice asked and you could imagine henry, amy's boyfriend laying next to her, confusion evident on his face.

"it's y/n" amy whispered harshly, before her mouth was closer to the phone again. "what is it, honey? it's the middle of the night"

"it's past eleven" you whispered harshly "and someones trying to break into the house"

"what?" you couldn't see what she was doing, but imagined she was sitting up in bed, due to all the noise she was making.

"someone's breaking in" you repeated.

"shit" amy said worriedly "okay, it's alright, henry can come and-"

before she could finish, the front door flew open. you quickly slipped onto the ground so you could hide behind the bed. "too late" your voice was a pitch higher as you basically screamed in a whisper "they're inside"

"shit, shit, shit" you could hear rushed movements on the other side of the phone "get up, idiot" amy screamed at henry (you assumed) "our friend is getting murdered"

"amy" even after all the years at the side of scott and stiles and every bad situation they had gotten themselves in, you had never been so scared before.

"it's alright, babe" amy tried to sound calming, but failed miserably "we're coming to help you"

"y/n?" a voice called and steps neared your bedroom. you couldn't help the sigh of relief escaping your lips.

"are you dead?" amy screamed and you held the phone away, your ears ringing from the loudness of her voice. "did they find you?"

"well if they didn't before, they would have now" you muttered "i'm alright, it's just isaac"

isaac opened the door, just as you had finished speaking. you raised your hand, waving at him and he walked around the bed, eyebrows furrowed.

"i'll call you back later" you said into the phone, ending the call before amy was able to say anything else.

"so, what are you doing, exactly?" isaac asked, amusement sounding through his voice.

"i thought someone was trying to break in" you shrugged, you saw no sense in lying.

"oh sorry" isaac scratched the back of his neck "i didn't mean to scare, you asked me to stay yesterday, so i slept on the couch and went to grab some breakfast for us"

"oh god" you held your hand in your hands, not being able to look at him "i can't even remember half the car ride yesterday, let alone anything that followed after" you looked down and only noticed now that you were wearing a pyjama.

"you changed yourself" isaac quickly said as he noticed the worry on your face "you asked me to give you a pyjama and changed while i waited in the hallway"

"sorry" you shook your head "i shouldn't have assumed—“

"no, no" isaac quickly interrupted "it's fine, please don't apologize"

you stood up and both of you were now standing in front of each other. "did i say something embarrassing yesterday?" you asked. you weren't sure if you wanted an answer to that, but you had to know.

isaac smiled. "well, you told me that my name was beautiful, which no one has done before, so it's greatly appreciated"

"that's it?" you wondered.

"eh, no" isaac looked a bit uncomfortable now and your smile died down.

"did i say something inappropriate?" your eyes widened "did i say something that made you uncomfortable?"

"no, but" isaac looked out of the window behind you, his cheeks reddening more and more "you said that you really really liked me"

your eyes widened even more and you looked down in embarrassment. "oh my god, i'm so—" you paused, remembering a very important detail from the night before "wait, why were you at the club yesterday?"

isaac laughed. "i was searching for you, actually" he admitted.

"oh really?" you smiled up at him.

"yeah" isaac shrugged "that's also why i stayed even though i live three minutes away, because i really really like you too"

a wave of relief and something warmer washed over you. isaac's words took a moment to sink in, and when they did, your heart fluttered.

"you... you like me?" you repeated, hardly believing what you were hearing.

isaac nodded, his cheeks still tinged with a light blush. "yeah, i do. i have for a while now, but i didn't know how to tell you. when stiles said you were at the club last night, i thought it was the perfect chance to see you."

you couldn't help but smile, the nervousness in your stomach slowly turning into excitement. "you asked stiles where i was?"

"yeah" isaac shrugged, laughing "i thought you were with him, because i always thought there was something going on between the two of you"

"oh, isaac" you shook your head "that couldn't be more wrong. as i said last night: i like you and only you. stiles is like a brother to me, i couldn't never even, no—ew"

isaac giggled, before he stepped closer, his expression softening. "i'm glad we finally got that out in the open."

you nodded, feeling a sense of anticipation building. "so, what now?"

isaac's lopsided grin returned. "how about we start with breakfast? i got your favorite from the bakery down the street."

your stomach growled at the mention of food, and you laughed. "that sounds perfect."

The Prophecy

pairing: isaac lahey x fem!stilinski!reader

summary: isaac tries to fight for your life while something he isn’t able to stop sets a terrible prophecy into motion

warnings: canon typical violence, mentions of death, blood, angst

notes: completely made up villain and storyline, reader is a witch

you had laughed at isaac's suggestion at first, sure it was a dumb joke with which he was trying to light the mood. stiles had started laughing with you and it was only then that you realized that isaac hadn't been joking.

"wait, you really mean it, don't you?" you asked, brows furrowed and an irritated look on your face.

"of course i mean it" isaac nodded, looking between you and stiles, who looked less happy and more annoyed now.

"well, you have no power to decide this for us" you crossed your arms, exchanging a look with your brother, who nodded.

"you have been a werewolf for all of five minutes, okay?" stiles muttered "but we, we've been doing this for years. your hear what i'm saying? years, isaac, plural"

"i just want to help"

"just like we do" you said, tone a bit softer than before as you noticed the worry on the blondes face. "we're risking lives if we stay home"

"i know, i just—"

"you heard her" stiles interrupted, before he walked around isaac, opening the front door. "either you come with us or you stay here"

isaac sighed, taking one last look at you, before he walked through the door first.

the mission was unevenful and much different for what you had expected. you didn't need any outstanding powers, just a bit of light magic, resulting in you having more energy than usual when you came back home.

isaac hadn't left yours and stiles' side for the enterity you were there, making sure that both of you were save at all times. you appreciated his protectiveness, but it made you wonder why he was suddenly acting like this. he had never had any distrust in your abilities. not even in stiles, although he was a human and had no powers.

the next day you all sat together at lunch. lydia and stiles were discussing a plothole in the star wars prequels, scott was studying an ancient looking book and isaac was staring at you, while you read your emails.

"is there something i can help you with?" you asked in a low voice to not to disturb your friends conversation.

"no" isaac shook his head and quickly averted his eyes, acting like he hadn't been focused on you for almost an hour.

"here" scott said louder than necessary to catch the attention around him. "it mentions something about a lost relic, derek told me about it before. maybe it's that what he's searching for"

gallaghan had been plaguing the town for the past few months, keeping the pack on edge about where he would show up next. it wasn't unsual for him to cause chaos and destruction wherever he went and until now you hadn't been able to find out what he was after.

"we might put an end to it if we find it first" lydia noted.

stiles nodded, always agreeable with whatever she said. "maybe we can even use it against him"

"where could it be hidden?" you asked, leaning over the table and trying to gather a look at the pages in scott's book.

"i think malia saw it before" scott muttered, unsurely. "she saw where it was hidden"

"great!" stiles stood up, his tray in hand. "let's go!"

before either of you could agree and stand up as well, isaac interjected. "i don't think we all need to go, right?" he asked, voice only above a whisper. "scott and lydia could go alone"

"why us?" lydia asked exchanging a glance with scott.

isaac shrugged.

"i say you go ask malia, while stiles, isaac and i go and get everything we could possibly need to fetch the relic" you suggested to keep the peace.

"sounds good" scott smiled, before he nodded behind him, in the direction of the hallway in which malia was studying in a classroom right now. lydia followed the alpha without another word, but you could see the look of confusion she send you.

"what's going on?" stiles asked isaac, as soon as your friends were out of ear shot.

"nothing" isaac insisted.

"you can tell us" your voice was soft and you laid your hand on top of his, despite stiles narrowing his eyes at your movement. isaac was ready to break, before he remembered what telling you could lead to.

"i swear it's nothing" he said again. "i just want to keep the both of you save"

"really romantic, thank you" stiles pushed a hand against his chest, a sarcastic smile on his face as he fluttered his eyelashes at the blonde boy across from him.

"let's get ready then, huh?" you suggested, squeezing isaac's hand to assure him. "you can stand next to us the entire time if that helps, yeah?"

isaac nodded reluctantely, before he took his own tray and followed you out of the cafeteria and to stiles jeep.

"we have to keep this on the down low" stiles announced to both of you, as he reversed the car and drove off the school parking lot. "dad's gonna kill us if he finds out"

"well, i'm not gonna tell him, you can bet your ass on that" you laughed from next to your brother. "you won't either, right isaac?" you asked jokingly, looking into the mirror.

isaac nodded, of course, but there was a dark thought in his head. a thought that would make both stiles and you extremely angry at him, but would keep you safe.

you prepared the whole afternoon for what you planned to do that evening. scott and lydia called throughout, telling you that malia still knew where the relic was hidden and that all of you would meet at scott's house at midnight.

isaac had gone home after a while, which you found weird, considering he had not let you out of his sight since the beginning of the week.

isaac hadn't been able to stay any longer as the same thought kept on repeating in his head. anytime he looked at you, he felt like a piece of his heart was breaking off.

a terrible headache only added to the pain his body was experiencing. he sat down on the couch in derek's loft, eyes fluttering close, as sleep took over.

in his dream he was back in the cave. the cave below the church, which the pack had discovered a few weeks ago. they had been searching for something isaac was now not even able to remember, but it had been important enough for all of you to come along.

he had walked into the cave on his own, the small space not allowing company, as he searched through a desk that was cramped into the corner.

that's when he found it. the prophecy.

in the time of shadows and light, when the balance teeters on the edge of ruin, the one who stands closest to the alpha—akin to his sister in heart though not in blood—shall meet her final fate. as the heavens weep, and three lightning strikes herald her doom, her end shall not be in vain, for her soul will be the price for another, a life dearer than her own. in the moment of her greatest sacrifice, she will choose love over life, and in doing so, her death shall render her eternal, for her legacy will live long after her mortal body has perished.

isaac woke up startled, the familiar words repeating in his head over and over again. he had known almost immediately that it was you the ancient text was talking about. and it was obvious you would give your life to save stiles.

it had been eating away at him since he had found out. he could not imagine his life without you. even a day without your laughter was too much for him to bare. he had loved you for way too long to never get a chance to tell you.

isaac knew that there was a way to change what was promised, to not make you decide and trade your life to spare stiles'. he just had to make sure both of you were safe.

but how could he do that?

"isaac, what are you doing here?" sheriff stilinski smiled, when officer parrish walked isaac into the formers office.

"good evening, sheriff" isaac greeted. "i think there is something you should know"

stiles and you had been ready for half an hour and were now standing in stiles' room, studying his wall of a million red strings, that almost made your eyes burn.

"that's a lot of red" you noted.

"i know"

"red means unssolved, right?" you stepped forward, moving along one of the strings with your finger. "there's a lot of unsolved things then"

"i'm aware, y/n" stiles slapped your hand away. "you're gonna ruin it"

"gonna ruin what exactly?" you tested "the unanswered questions you know nothing about?"

"haha, very funny" stiles smiled sarcastically. "you have no sense for real detective work"

"calm down, columbo" you rolled your eyes "i think you need to solve a case before you earn the right to call yourself a detective."

"oh sorry, i didn't know i was talking to nancy drew" he crossed his arms. "i'm sure she would appreciate this work of a genius"

you raised an eyebrow. "genius? looks more like a kindergarten art project gone wrong."

stiles scoffed, leaning in. "well, if by 'gone wrong' you mean 'brilliantly unraveling mysteries,' then yeah, sure, kindergarten. but guess what—this 'art project' is probably going to save our butts, again."

you smirked, crossing your arms. "right, because nothing says 'life-saving genius' like a wall of yarn."

"whatever" stiles shrugged, taking a quick look at his phone. "ten minutes until midnight, we better get going"

you nodded, grabbing your bag from his bed, before you both walked out of his room and down the stairs. you took the keys out of the little bowl near the door, just as stiles opened it.

"scott said—whoa, dad!" his voice called out in surprise.

you narrowed your eyes at the figure standing in the door. your father was still wearing his uniform and looked at both of you disapprovingly.

"didn't you have the night shift?" stiles wondered and you wanted to elbow him deep into the ribs, as your father's face darkened even more.

"where do you think you're going?" he asked, stepping into the house and shutting the door behind him. "and you skipped school? again? we talked about this"

"how do you—"

you interrupted stiles. "—it was an emergency"

"didn't sound like that" sheriff stilinski shook his head, disappointment crossing his face, before he sighed. "go to bed, both of you. it's a school night"

"but dad—" stiles and you tried to protest at the same time.

"you heard me"

you walked up the stairs defeated and followed stiles back into his room.

"i bet isaac snitched" stiles accused almost immediately after you had closed the door. "he's been acting strange. stranger than usual"

"i don't think isaac would do that"

stiles crossed his arms and send you a pointed look.

"okay, maybe" you admitted, "it doesn't matter anyway. we have to find a way to get out and meet up with the others"

"we can't leave until he's gone to sleep" stiles sighed. "shit!"

"did you hear anything from stiles and y/n?" lydia asked over at scotts house. the rest of the pack, isaac, malia, derek and scott were sitting around her.

"yeah" scott nodded. "stiles just texted that they won't be able to make it on time, but they'll try to come"

"what do we do?" malia asked, looking between her friends.

"i say we go anyway" isaac muttered. "we can't wait for gallaghan to find the relic first"

"isaac's right" derek said.

"alright" scott nodded. "i tell them to meet us there as soon as they're able to come"

isaac desperately hoped that they would never make it.

due to him not being used to the quiet of the night, it took your dad an unnaturally short time to fall asleep. stiles and you had checked on him at one thirty, being out the house at one fourty.

the drive was shorter than expected. and it seemed that you were arriving just on time, as all hell had broken lose. you understood quickly that you hadn't been the only ones to come and search for the relic.

gallaghan was there too and he had brought company in the form of hunters.

"shit" you muttered to stiles, while both of you tried to make out where you could help best. you decided to split up, you walking right and him left, bat in hand.

isaac was busy fighting against two hunters, who looked anything but friendly. it didn't look good for him if you were honest. you quickly raised your hands, throwing both men back and knocking them out through the action.

isaac turned around in susprise. "y/n!" he breathed, shock evident on his face. "what the hell are you doing here?"

the expression on your face changed, spotting a look of betrayal. "so it was you who talked to dad"

"that's beside the point" isaac shook his head looking between you and the fight a few feet away. "you can't be here!" he gripped your arm.

"the hell i can" you tried to break free from his grip but it was to no use.

"just wait" he pleaded, fiddeling with his phone, before he held it in your direction. "i didn't want to tell you, because i didn't want to scare you"

your eyes flew over the words on the photo. the writing was old, almost ancient and not easy to read, but perfectly clear to understand once you got it. "meet her final fate?" you muttered, looking up at him with wide eyes.

"yes" he paused. "that's why i told your dad, i was sure he wouldn't let you come and i was right. so please, go back home y/n"

"okay" you nodded and isaac sighed.

"but we have to find stiles first" he muttered, as he thought back to the words in the prophecy. "you're going to sacrifice yourself for love and stiles is the most plausible option"

before either of you could say anything else, a flash of lightning momentarily sounded in the air, bathing the sky in a bright light. you both jumped at the same time.

"that was the first" isaac exclaimed with a look of horror.

"the first?" you repeated carefully.

"as the heavens weep, and three lightning strikes herald her doom" he quoted. "three strikes. that was the first. we have to hurry"

"yeah-yeah" you nodded, the fear growing inside you as you realized that whatever isaac had found was actually slowly becoming true.

"it's better you wait here" isaac announced finally. "i'll go and find stiles"

"are you sure?"

"i don’t want you going in there as long as it's dangerous" he pointed at the building behind him. "it's even more dangerous for you if stiles is in there"

"okay" you nodded, tears spilling from your eyes. "please be safe, isaac" you said a he looked at you with pain in his eyes. "and thank you" he nodded, before he turned around and began to run. you pushed your back against the wall, hiding yourself from anyone coming close.

it felt like an eternity to wait for him. you debated if you should follow him to make sure he was safe. you were scared, so deeply scared that him saving your life meant ultimately sacrificing his own in the process.

another lightning broke through the sky and made you unvoluntarily duck, as your heart began to beat faster.

"y/n!" stiles' voice called. the relief that flushed you almost made you stumble to the ground.

"stiles" you breathed, turning the corner and sinking into your brother's arms. "where is isaac?"

stiles turned around as if there was something to find. "he was right behind me, he was—"

you gripped his shoulders, as loud footsteps interrupted his rambling, isaac running out of the building. "go! go!" he screamed loudly. they were following him, three hunters, ready to kill.

you raised your hand, pushing the first back. he flew against the nearest tree, losing his conciousness immediately. the second wasn't as easy. he managed to swerve around your magic a few times, before it eventually gripped him, pulling him back and leaving him laying in the middle of the street.

you pushed stiles behind you as you tried to take on the last of them. isaac was now running directly in your direction, the hunter right behind him, which made it harder for you to hex the right person.

your tries kept relentlessly failing, as you realized too late what kept the man safe. it was something so simple, but you had never encountered it. like vampires could be contained with garlic, or werewolves with wolfsbane, witches could be repelled with ivy and his whole jacket was decorated in the green plant. somehow he had known about you and your powers.

the man threw a rope, catching isaac's foot and quickly snatching him back, making the boy tumble to the ground.

"isaac!" you called loudly, voice in an unsteady rhythm as your tears broke through. you quickly managed to the let the rope vanish.

isaac scrambled to his feet, but the hunter was relentless, closing the distance once more. panic surged through you as you saw the desperation in isaac’s eyes. you couldn’t let him die. not now. not after everything.

"y/n!" stiles shouted, but you barely heard him over the pounding in your ears, over the roaring of your heart.

isaac stumbled, still trying to stand, but the hunter was already upon him, pulling out a silver blade meant to kill.

you closed your eyes, time stopping to flow around you. isaac and the hunter stayed unmoving, you felt stiles' fingers cling to the hem of your shirt. but you couldn't think about that.

the concentration you had to muster felt unbearable. but you could not let him die. you would rather get hurt yourself than watch him get killed.

with a surge of adrenaline, you stepped forward, raising your hands as you prepared to use your magic again. but this time, something felt different. the power inside you was building faster than you’d ever felt before—wild, uncontrollable, a force you could barely contain.

"get away from him!" you screamed, your voice hoarse from the terror that gripped your heart. the hunter raised the blade, preparing to strike down on isaac.

the magic swelled inside you, overwhelming, tearing through your body with searing heat. you had one chance. one spell. but it would cost you everything.

you made the choice.

with a cry of pain, you unleashed the full force of your magic, every ounce of power you had. it erupted from you in a blinding wave of light, surging toward the hunter. but this wasn’t just a simple spell. It was something more, something ancient and powerful—something that demanded a sacrifice.

you could feel the magic ripple through the barrier of the ivy, breaking apart like a twig in it's way.

the hunter sank to the ground, falling down like a sack of potatoes, the dagger clastering to the side.

you didn't have long to be happy about your win. just as your power dried out, you felt a flash of pain errupt inside your chest and then, like it was bound to happen, the third strike of lightning broke through the sky, painting your face in horror as you fell to the ground.

stiles was barely fast enough to catch you, breath hitching as he stared down at you in worry.

you looked past him and into the bright sky, like it was a mirror of your sould that was burning.

"y/n" isaac stumbled onto his feet and sank to the ground next to you. "what did you do?"

"i saved you" you whispered. you could feel your teech being drenched in liquid. blood, you thought.

"but—" isaac paused, looking up in the sky. "the third" he muttered then.

"what?" stiles asked from behind you. isaac looked at your brother, who was looking so worried and scared. it took him a second to realize what had happened.

"the prophecy wasn't about stiles" he concluded.

you managed to nod your head. you hadn't know immediately, but at the moment that danger threatened to end isaac's life. he had been so sure, so set on it being about stiles that you hadn't questioned his theory.

but everything he had done to prevent your fate, had actually set it in motion.

"prophecy? what prophecy? could someone please talk to me?" stiles pleaded, teary-eyed.

as if they knew that something had happened, the rest of your friends came running.

"we have the relic, gallaghan is—" scott said, before he saw what was going on.

"what prophecy?" stiles tried again.

isaac took out his phone with trembling hands, holding it in your brothers direction.

"in the time of shadows and light, when the balance teeters on the edge of ruin, the one who stands closest to the alpha—akin to his sister in heart though not in blood—" stiles read, voice unsteady, as he pressed his other hand against your body, making sure you were still there. "shall meet her final fate. as the heavens weep, and three lightning strikes herald her doom, her end shall not be in vain, for her soul will be the price for another, a life dearer than her own." he looked between you and isaac.

"it didn't mean platonic love" you concluded, blood seeping from your mouth as you spoke. you could hear a cry come from lydia, as she buried her head in scott's shoulder, who looked down at you in pain.

derek had clasped a hand around isaac's shoulder as if to give his beta strength. even malia, who normally was not fazed by anthing, watched you in horror.

isaac touched your cheek. "i was wrong" he cried. "i was so determined to save you i did not even properly think"

"she doesn't have to die" stiles shook his head. "i mean we can do something, right? we always do something. if she would die you would know, right lydia?" he looked up at the strawberry blonde with pleading eyes and and unfair amount of hope.

lydia shook her head softly and stiles slumped down.

"stiles" you muttered. "it has been prophesied"

"i don't care about the stupid prophecy, okay?" he pushed a few tears away from his cheeks. "you won't die tonight. dad's gonna kill me if he finds out"

you smiled at his blind optimism and his disbelief of the situation.

"i'm sorry" isaac cried. "this is all my fault"

"yes it is" stiles pushed a finger into the blondes chest. "you knew about it and you didn't even try to tell us"

"i thought it was safer" isaac tried to defend.

"i'm her brother, i deserved to know" stiles shook his head. "i could've found a way"

"not with all those red strings" you muttered, trying to light the mood.

"what about decan?" scott asked. "can't we bring her to him?"

"it's a difference if someone's life is threatened by an outer force like a dagger or poison or by an inner force" derek explained and if you weren't mistaken, he was crying too.

"inner force?" malia repeated.

"her powers are slowly turning against her" he concluded. "they're killing her from the inside. she's bleeding out internally"

"so what?" stiles asked, "we just let her die? we won't even try to do something?"

"we can't do anything, stiles"

stiles turned his head back to look at isaac, deep anger spilling from his features. "she's dying, because of you! because you were so selfish that you didn't want to tell us what you knew!" he spat. "she should've let you die!"

isaac sank down, stiles' words hitting him like a dagger. he knew that he was at fault, that he had not done enough, that he should've acted differently. he shouldn't have been so scared to share his knowledge, not so fast to make assumptions.

"enough!" you called loudly, interrupting your brother's screaming, as you tried your best to sit up against him. "i don't want to go like this. you don't get to make this out to be isaac’s fault, stiles!" you turned back around to the blonde. "and you don't get to think it is, isaac! i make my own decisions and i will not die in vain because of you idiots"

"y/n" isaac muttered.

"no, isaac" you swept the blood from your mouth in a desperate try to free your lungs and breathe in the clean air. you could feel your time run out, it was only the parts of you that weren't human that had given you more time, before your final fate would come. "i chose to save you, because i love you"

"i tried to save you because of the same reason" isaac muttered, voice just above a whisper. "now look where love has gotten us"

a small, sad smile tugged at the corner of your lips. "i don’t feel like i’m at the wrong place," you said softly, shaking your head. "i feel like i was at the right place, at the right time. and i did what i had to do."

"love shouldn't take your life" he disagreed, clearly not accepting of what you had done.

"there's no better thing to die for, isaac" you took his hand in yours. "i just regret that i didn't tell you sooner"

it was just devastating to see the pain on his face and know that you were the reason for it.

stiles, who had been silent, his face streaked with tears, sobbed quietly beside you. his hand rested on your shoulder, his body shaking as the reality of your fading life hit him.

your friends stood nearby, faces pale and stricken with sadness, as if they were watching the world unravel before their eyes. they were crying like the night had stolen the very light from the world, as if everything had been lost.

"i'm sorry" isaac said once again, clinging to your hand like it was a lifeline.

"don't be sorry" you shook your head, a peaceful smile unraveling on your features. "i always thought i would be alone, you know?"

you searched his eyes for some sign of recognition of the conversation you had once had about your final moments. "i remember" he said, his mind wandering back to the night on your roof.

"i'm not alone" you whispered, before you looked at everyone individually, taking them in to remember.

eyes are most beautiful when they’re filled with tears, you thought to yourself. it wasn’t something you had ever said out loud, but it was how you felt now—seeing the raw emotion, the love, the pain all mixed together. It was devastating, but it was real.

you touched isaac's cheeck, catching one of his tears. they fell from his ocean-blue eyes, like the water had risen too high for the shore to contain. "it might sound selfish" you whispered softly, as you watched the tear run down your fingers, "but isn't it somewhat soothing to know, that i was loved to the point of tears?"

isaac smiled at you and you could read the undeniable love from his face. you looked around you once more, into the faces of your friends and brother.

"loved enough to be grieved" you muttered, like a sudden realisation. "not everyone can say that. so… thank you." your breath hitched, as if to finalize your fate.

"y/n?" stiles muttered as he noticed the glossy look in your eyes. almost like you were fading away.

"y/n" isaac repeated when no answer rang out. he shook you softly.

you smiled. "i wish i could've seen the sun" your eyes fell close as death set into your features, but still leaving the smile on your face, like it wanted to grant you with something, a final piece of happiness in a moment of despair.

"no!" stiles voice rung out first. in a desperate attempt to bring you back to life he began to shake you, hoping for some kind of movement. "no!"

"stiles" scott muttered, taking his friend into his arms and letting him sob against his shoulder as they cried simultaenously.

isaac sat across from them, slumped down and heartbroken. derek gripped the shoulder of his beta even harder. lydia sank next to isaac reluctantly, first stretching out her hand slowly, but finally taking him into her arms and letting him sob against her warm embrace.

none of them said anything, but they all stayed where they were, ultimately knowing what to do without speaking about it.

they sat down around you, as if to spend you company.

as the clock struck 5:17 a.m., the first rays of sunlight bathed your still form in a soft, golden light, marking the quiet end of a day and the beginning of a new one without you.

it was almost as if you could feel the warmth of the light on your face. your smile being a constant reminder that you had thought about something good in your final moment, like the first sign of sunrise at the beginning of a day, or the feeling of blowing out candles on your birthday. running through grass barefoot and feeling the earths touch beneath your feet.

smelling snow for the first time at the beginning of december, growing taller than your older brother at the age of seven, falling in love for the first time and getting your heart broken. falling in love again, despite remembering how much it hurt when it ended.

dancing with your friends after a few too many shots, swimming in the lake during the hottest day of summer. rainy days in the library, ice cream in the summer, cookies at the beginning of autumn, peace at the end of your life.

you had missed the sun by a few hours, but had met it in your life more times than anyone could’ve been able to remember.
