pairing: george karim x reader
summary: early morning cuddles, mostly just fluff
you stretched you arms out, turning around in the bed and facing, what was meant to be your boyfriend. but to your worry, the side of the bed was empty, covers thrown away lazily and no trace of the boy you loved. there was a moment of hesitation, in which you considered just screaming his name, scared that something has happened, but before you could do anything, you heard the familiar scraping of a pen on paper.
as you looked up towards the desk, you could see the back of his head.
"Georgie?" you mumbled, voice still raspy, the tiredness not having left your body just now.
"oh!" he turned around to look at you "you're awake already" he had to snicker at the state of your hair, you always messed it up with your hands while you slept. not even his own hair was safe from it.
you threw a look towards the clock at your right and understood why George was questioning why you were already awake. it was only six.
"why are you up, baby?" you muttered and Georges cheek tinted pink by the nickname. but there was only so much you could see of his face, considering that it was so early and you were living in London. "come back to bed, so we can sleep some more"
George contemplated, before he finally shook his head "I'm sorry, y/n" he said "I really have to finish this"
"ugh" you replied "can't you continue working at like nine or something? if it's lockwood who's--"
"--it's not lockwood" George interrupted "I really want to finish this"
"do it later" you tried again "please, baby. come back to bed"
George had already turned around to his desk, when his head suddenly shot in the air at your words. the usage of the nickname seemed to absolutely confuse and flatter him at the same time. he threw a last look to the writings on the desk, before he got up and crossed the room.
as he came closer you could see how red his face had gotten. he took of his glasses and crawled into bed beside you.
"alright" he said, opening his arms, so you could lay on his chest "just promise me that lockwood won't ever find out about that nickname, okay?"
"you don't like it?" you pouted, turning your head so you could catch his eyes, he was already looking at you.
"of course I do" he took great offence to you thinking otherwise. "it's just-- I mean, you know lockwood. he wouldn't shut up about it"
"lockwood is a dick" you nodded, thinking back to that head size drawing you had done on the thinking cloth. you had never spent as much time fighting a ghost, then you had painting that picture of lockwood getting his head bitten off by a shark.
"I love you y/n" George muttered, while his eyes slowly closed. his hair was tickling your forehead and you smiled at the overworked boy, your overworked boy. glad that he was getting some sleep now, even if you practically had to flirt him back to back
is arms were draped around you, while you snuggled your head into the crouch of his neck, planting a kiss next to his collarbone, before you returned to your position on his chest.
"night, baby" you responded and watched as Georges cheeks grew flustered once again. then you closed your eyes. still wrapped up in the boy by your side.
it didn't even take a week, until lockwood heard of your new nickname for George, making fun of it the whole time the team was on a mission. later that day, you drew another piece of art, which featured lockwood being chased by a killer, holding an axe, while you and George stood next to them, getting married.
hopefully that scenery would come true some day. well at least half of it, you didn't really believe in weddings that much.
Enemies to lovers George Karim x reader PLEASE!!
âmastermind
pairing: george karim x reader
summary: the team has to work together with quill kipps, for George that means being stuck with the best friend of the blonde leader, y/n. the only person in the whole world that seemed to be smarter than him, that's why he hated her.
George Karim was not entirely the nicest person, at least not to his close friends. that usually differed with other people, with them he was nice and tried his best not to grow aggravated as them when they didnt know a simple fact
it was different with y/n l/n though. she had been in Kipps' team for the past two years and what Quill Kipps was to Lockwood, y/n was to George. it was mostly the concept that she seemed to be a bit more intelligent as him and literally succeed at anything she tried.
it wasn't hard for him to hate her. intelligence and knowledge had always been his thing. but to George's dismay, Barnes had gotten Lockwood to accept the helping hand of Kipps, which normally wouldn't have been a problem, if he hadn't decided to bring his best friend, y/n with him.
"look at this" George exclaimed, while Lockwood, Lucy, Kipps, y/n and him were sitting at the kitchen table, researching the case they were about to take on together "seems like the ghost has a connection to Heather Abbott"
"the actress?" Kipps asked confused
"precisely" George nodded "she received her second Oscar in 1977 and then, two weeks later, she disappeared suddenly. here, you can see it on the picture, they are standing together and it says it was taken on June 26 1980"
"oh bullshit" y/n exclaimed from behind the papers, without even looking up from what she was reading. all eyes turned to her, as she finally put the papers down "sorry to disappoint you, but Haeather Abbott wasn't the one that disappeared, it was her sister. Heather died through natural causes at the end of may 1982, so much for your theory. and to be exact, that isn't even her on the picture"
Lockwood's eyes turned big as he threw a look in George's direction, after y/n had picked up her papers again. normally his best friend would never make such mistakes, but in the presence of y/n, George always felt the need to be the smartest, so he often acted too quick without thinking it through. he wasn't much himself when she was near.
Kipps laughed into the hand he had put up in front of his mouth, trying to be discreet, but obviously failing, before he patted y/n's shoulder, his face showing the obvious triumph.
"oh" George exclaimed "I could've sworn I was right-"
"well, you weren't" y/n answered and in that very moment, George was about to jump over the table and close his hands around her neck. luckily for the girl, Lockwood had noticed George's growing interest in murder and held him down. the others not even noticing the outburst he had prevented.
about three hours later, the group was standing in a dark alley way, ready to start their mission. much to George's dismay, y/n had found the important information.
turns out the ghost they were hunting, an old singer, known as Gale Humphrey, had different connections to some more than just illegal organisations, which led to his death, when he was found murdered in his old london chalet. the house was huge and it was important to know their way, before they would walk inside blindly. y/n had made sure of that, to which even Lockwood had to praise her.
when they entered, they decided to part ways, so that they would cover as much ground as possible.
"Lucy, George and I will go upstairs, Kipps and y/n downstairs, alright?" Lockwood began ordering and Kipps raised his eyebrows
"so you can find everything important and get the whole fee? without y/n you would go in blindly, you wouldn't even have half the information you have now, thanks to your reasearcher being totally off the bat"
"hey!" George protested, but went ignored by both boys
"he's right" said Lucy. she was about the only one that was at least somewhat friendly to Kipps and actually liked y/n. probably because she was living with two boys and didn't get the chance often, to actually spend time with another girl. "you know he is, Lockwood"
"okay" Lockwood breathed "how would you do it?"
"you, Lucy and I go up. Karim and y/n down. it should mostly be safe downstairs. the talents would be parted evenly. Lucy and y/n are both listeners, you have the sight thing, George has touch. seems fair to me"
"alright" Lockwood breathed and George's eyes grew big.
"what?" he spat, like Lockwood had just traded him in "i'm not going down there with her. first chance she gets, she's probably trying to kill me" "like I would need to do that in a haunted mansion" y/n rolled her eyes "if I wanted you dead, you were, sweetheart"
George gulped in disbelief, sending another pleading look in Lockwoods direction. "please, Lockwood"
"I'm sorry, George" Lockwood breathed, before he turned around, closely followed by Kipps. Lucy waited a few seconds longer, before she had to give in. she send an apologetic look towards George, before she followed the boys up the stairs
"just you and me than" y/n smiled provocative "really romantic"
"just amazing" George smiled sarcastically "hopefully the ghost will be better company"
"oh come on, Karim" y/n threw her hands in the air, as she followed him down the stairs "you don't hate me that much"
"I would like you more if you weren't such a know-it-all, all the time" he rolled his eyes
"like you are any better" she shrugged
"try listening, will ya?" he instructed, ignoring her words from before. he wasn't as annoying about knowledge as y/n was. he definitely wasn't.
the girl closed her eyes, while George tried to gather anything from the walls. there wasn't much he could feel
he turned around when he heard y/n's sudden gasp. "what is it?" he asked, hand gliding to his rapier, as he watched the girl, who seemed to be in full distress.
"don't move" she muttered, while she gripped his arms and gently pulled him towards her
"is it him?" George wondered "the ghost? is he here?" he repeated quickly, because y/n's eyes were still fixated on something behind him. "y/n!" he tried again, calling her by her first name for the first time in a long while since they were introduced to each other
her face had lost all its colour and she was rapidly moving backwards, taking him with her. her eyes had spilled a few tears. obviously they were not used to being a team and going on missions together, but they had had their share of ghost fighting in each others company, and George had never seen her this scared. y/n always seemed to keep her cool, even at the most monstrous of ghosts.
he tried to gain her attention again, but it was to no use. he took her hand off of him and drew his rapier, turning around in a quick motion to be met with... nothing?
"it's on the ground" y/n muttered as she noticed his eyes dazing around the place
George looked down to the ground slowly, anticipating anything but what he was seeing. it wasn't a ghost, but an animal, a snake to be exact. a little green snake, he noticed as he held his flashlight on it, which was one of the most harmless beings put on earth.
"it's just a snake" he chuckled
"I-I know" y/n hissed and George noticed how she stumbled back even further, just now without him
"are you scared?" he asked bewildered
"ob-obviously" y/n answered, while she kept her eyes on the still forward stalking animal "would you mind stopping it?!"
"y-yeah" George bend down and took the short snake between his fingers, cautious that it wasn't too close to his skin to be able to bite him. the snake wasn't dangerous, but he didn't really need to be bitten tonight. he walked to the other room to open a window and set the animal free. "better?" he asked, when he came to a hold next to the girl
"yeah" she mumbled "thank you, that was nice"
"no problem. i'm just a bit surprised is all, I mean, you're the great l/n! you're not scared of anything"
"well, I am scared of some things. maybe not ghosts and darkness, but there are still some things"
"like not being the smartest person in the room?" he asked sarcastically, returning to his old self
"you don't get anything, do you?" y/n asked "I'm sorry you can't take a hit to your ego. and I'm sorry you were wrong, but that isn't really my fault, is it? someone had to correct what you were saying before our team would walk into another mission blindly, but I guess normally you're used to that, aren't you?"
"woah, hold up" George put up his hands in surrender "our team? the last I remember this was my team and you and kipps only added yourselves to it"
"like we had any choice" y/n mocked "the most prestigious agency, lockwood and co, just can't get away from burning houses down, killing people or angering DEPRAC, obviously Barnes had to get you lot a supervisor"
"yeah, maybe, but not you"
"do you think I like spending time with you either?" y/n voice grew louder and bounced off the walls, they were both full on screaming at each other now
"you wouldn't be so insufferable if you were less intelligent" George screamed right back
"do you think I like being like this?"
George's mouth had run dry had the answer she had screamed at the top of her lungs. now he was just simply staring at her.
for George intelligence had always been a gift, to be able to memorise as much as possible and understand complex connections. he loved learning new things and he liked to be the smartest person in the room. all his life he had been just that, the smartest person. well at least until he had met her.
"are you kidding me?" George laughed "you are always bragging about how smart you are"
"really? am I?"
now that he was really thinking about it, it seemed like most of that had been in his head. obviously she would correct him when he was being wrong and sometimes she would break into five minute rants, after which she had to slowly repeat herself, so everyone would be able to grasp the concept she had understood a long time before them.
she was cocky and confident and sometimes rude, but she hadn't always been like that, he suddenly noticed. he remembered at fittes, when they first met each other and trained together, she would mostly keep to herself. she would answer when she was asked and if he made a mistake, she would correct him privately, so he could redeem himself without a big huff.
he couldn't really remember when he had begun hating her, or why he did. maybe because in his eyes, intelligence was the only good quality he had, but when she was there, he didn't even have that.
maybe the hatred had begun when he began liking her too much. at least that's when he began talking to her, like she was no one to him. and after some time, she seemed to return that favour.
"you're right" he finally said, realising his mistake "but you were nicer about it when we first met"
"because i liked you, you idiot. at least until you began to go all rouge on me" she paused, sitting down on the steps and waiting until he did the same
"do you know what its like to work as a woman in just another male dominated industry? they don't take you seriously, because you're just a girl, what could you know? what you say is never right, because it isn't what they would say... for the longest time, being smart was like a curse to me. that's why I left the team and went to Kipps. he was the first one to make me feel good about it, about being the smartest one in the room, there isn't really any shame in that. he helped me to be more confident, to not hold back when I want to say something and to not feel bad when I know something better than others. when we first met I thought you could understand how I was feeling. I quickly realised you couldn't and at some other point I finally noticed how much I was annoying you"
"oh" George just said "I never knew you were feeling like that. I think I was just jealous of you, because I felt like you were taking something away from me by being smarter. now that I think about it, I wasn't any better than the other men, was I?"
"no" y/n shook her head chuckling
"I was really dumb, im sorry for that" George smiled at the girl "intelligence always seemed like a gift to me, I never thought about it being this bad for someone else."
"it's alright George, I should've just ask you what was going on"
"you are not responsible for my insecurities" George shook his head "and I shouldn't have acted like you were" he shrugged his shoulder "I think deep down I wanted to be like you, so effortlessly smart, and what was supposed to be admiration grew into anger, because I realised I could never be"
"somehow, that's kind of cute" y/n laughed "I didn't know I had an admirer"
"you confessed to liking me first, just for the record"
"yeah, i'll keep that in the protocol" y/n pointed at her head "photographic memory"
"oh, man!" George cried out "obviously I had no chance against you"
"no" y/n smiled
she leaned forward and softly, her lips found his. engulfing him into a sweet and gentle kiss. it didn't even feel weird, more like it was always meant to be, they just had taken too long to realise it.
"you never had"
"I'm fine with that, actually" George muttered and connected their lips once again.
Hey! I saw you opened requests for Lockwood&Co so I wanted to ask for some jealous Anthony Lockwood x reader if that's okay with you
BLANK SPACE
Pairing: Anthony Lockwood x reader
Summary: normally Lockwood can hide his feelings quite well. that talent seems to fade every time someone tries to flirt with his y/n
Translation: n/n = nickname
"I really think we can go home now" Anthony Lockwood said to you, while you were in the middle of a conversation with one of the boys, Noah Prentiss, from another agency.
"lockwood!" you scolded and send him a tired look
"no it's okay, n/n" Noah said smiling "I should probably leave as well. it was nice talking to you" he looked towards Lockwood "you too! Goodbye" then he went off
"n/n?" Anthony asked while he was walking next to you "I thought only I was allowed to call you that"
you reached for his hand and intertwined your fingers "its a quite common shortage for my name, also I don't mind" you smiled "actually I should be scolding you, you were the one to disrupt a peaceful conversation I was just having now."
"I didn't like the way he was looking at you"
"you didn't like the way he was looking at me?" you repeated mockingly "how did he look at me, then?"
"like he wanted to undress you"
"well, you look at me like you want to undress me all the time, even now"
"it's okay when I do it, I'm your boyfriend. that means I actually get to undress you" he muttered angrily, you would've probably felt for him, if what he was saying didn't sound so absolutely ridiculous, so you broke into full on laughter, you even had to stop and bend down at some point
"n/n!" Anthony cried out "why are you laughing at me?"
you had to wait for a few minutes, before you could answer, still not being able to catch your breath. "I'm sorry" you wheezed "it's just too funny"
"I don't know what could be funny about this" your boyfriend exclaimed and crossed his arms in front of his chest disapprovingly.
"oh, baby" you smiled, stepping in front of the boys and opening his arms, so you could step inside. Anthony didn't budge, still keeping his eyes above your head. you knew him quite well, and you knew when he was acting like this, it wasn't normally easy to gain his attention. well, you were his girlfriend for a reason
your hand slid up to his neck. still no movement from him. then you went to stand on your tiptoes, your lips only a few inches from his. "look at me, baby" you muttered and you could feel his hot breath on your face.
you could see in his features that he was trying hard to resist you, but the longer you were as close like this, the harder it got for him.
the final moment came when you stretched a bit higher and connected your lips. his hands immediately went to your waist to pull you closer and returning the kiss with as much passion as you were used to.
you broke the kiss slowly, stepping away from his body, which was harder than you had initially thought, considering he was holding you in a death grip.
"let's go home than" you smiled at how hot and bothered your boyfriend had gotten in the last minute
"by the way" you said, stepping closer and coming to a halt next to him. you stood on your tiptoes again so your mouth was in front of his ear. you placed a lingering kiss, just beneath and watched in satisfaction how his body shivered.
"I don't mind when you get jealous" you whispered in his ear "I think you are incredibly hot than"
Anthony watched as you stepped away from him and walked across the street, on your way to the door of the house you all lived in. it wasn't easy to shut up Anthony Lockwood, but you were one of the only people who was able to do just that. mostly because he found you breathtakingly beautiful and he was so in love with you, that he would've done anything if you just asked him to.
"seems like I do need to get drunk on jealously more often" Anthony muttered to himself, gaining back his ability to speak and putting on this signature smirk of his, before he took off after you
A/N: i'm sorry that it's so short and that I got a bit carried away omg
I love your fics!!

Keep up the great work!! đť

pairing: george karim x reader
summary: sneaking around and hiding a relationship becomes a challenge when your bosses are lockwood and kipps, but y/n and george always seem to manage anywayâŚ
warnings: none really
note: thank you so much!! hope you like this :))
"y/n!" Anthony Lockwood called surprised "what are you doing here, this time of the day? does Kipps need our help?"
"ehh, no, sorry-" you turned around slowly. Lockwood stood in the entry way of the library, eyebrows raised at you. "I needed your help, actually" you quickly tried to cover up the fact that you were just leaving, after you had spend the night in your boyfriends company.
"oh, do you?" Lockwood replied surprised
"yes" you nodded "I need a book, I think George mentioned once that you guys had it"
"a book?" Lockwood changed his position "and you didn't think of just going to the library?"
"oh" you replied dumbfounded, not having thought of that "of course" you quickly gathered back your confidence "the library!" you called out, like Lockwood had just invented it
Lockwood watched as you made your way back to the door and threw a loose goodbye in his direction, before he turned around and muttered something about Kipps' crew always needing to be reminded of the simplest things.
__________
"it's still weird, isn't it?" George brushed a loose strand of hair from off your face. you were both laying on your bed, cuddling, talking about everything and nothing
"what do you mean?" you asked confused, poking up your head from off his shoulder
"Kipps and Lockwood, I really don't now why they won't get along" he sighed "it's not like they are particularly differentâ
"oh believe me, they are" you muttered "I think something in Kipps just wants to make sure Lockwood and you guys are safe, at the same time it angers him that Lockwood tries anything in his willpower to get hurt"
"that's actually really nice"
"he can be at times" you smiled at the boy
as if on command, there was a knock on your door. "y/n?" kipps called "can I come in?"
"eh" you called "just a moment, I'm- changing" you pushed George off your bed, so he would stay out of Kipps sight, the boy nearly screaming a fit of curse words
"you can enter" you sat down on the bed, waiting for Kipps to open the door
"hey" he smiled, stepping inside your room "I just talked to Bobby. he says we will be able to visit the house tonight. we'll take a cab at five, just be ready"
"of course" you smiled nonchalantly
"everything alright?" kipps seemed irritated by your answer, normally you would just groan and curse him out like he had personally invented the problem
"yeah" you nodded "why wouldn't it be?"
"I don't know" Kipps answered slowly, walked back to the door, while keeping a confused look on his face "be ready" he repeated, before he walked out and closed the door
_______
"okay, this is getting repetitive" Lockwood called, arms crossed sitting in the living room. next to him (to your surprise) sat Kipps, wearing the exact same expression, watching you and George sneaking down the stairs
"eh" George muttered confused
"yeah" you nodded, dragging George into the room with you "there was this book-"
"-repetitive" Lockwood sang
"just admit you're dating and we can all go home" Kipps leaned forward to take a sip of his tea
"what?" you asked perplexed
"well" Lockwood smiled smugly "Kipps and I both noticed your weird behaviour, so we talked about it and came to the same conclusion"
"yeah, either you two are dating or you're having something even weirder going on"
"you both worked together?" George raised his brows. Lockwood and Kipps looked at each other in realisation
"I guess we did" Kipps muttered
"well, we can't have important team members being distracted during missions, because they are busy sneaking around"
"okay, seems plausible" George and you sat down across from the men
"but just so you know, we won't break up just because you guys found out about us"
"obviously not" Kipps and Lockwood nodded at the same time
"as long as you do not tell her any of our secrets" Lockwood instructed George jokingly, a bit of a stern expression entering his face
"the same goes for you, y/n"
you and George grinned at both your bosses, happy about them approving of your relationship. because if you were honest, they were much more than just that, they were your friends.
"great" Lockwood stood up, talking the tray with the empty tea mugs "then Quill Kipps can finally leave my house"
"gladly" Quill muttered bitterly "lets go, y/n"
you raised your hand and waved at Lockwood, before you turned to George and plastered a longing kiss on his lips. you followed Quill out of the room, grinning at the boy that looked a bit traumatised by witnessing your kiss
"I really have to get used at that before you can do it again"
"fine" you laughed, closing the front door behind the both of you
could i get a george x reader where the reader is an agent from like texas or smth, and is rlly bold and brash and straightforward
âi knew you were trouble
pairing: george karim x fem!reader
summary: reader expressed her likeness for george all the time.. seems like he finally gets it
warnings: a bit flirting but nothing suggestive, fluff
note: hope you like it! couldn't really add anything texas related, not really an expert!
"there she comes, Georgie" you could hear Anthony Lockwood mock the moment he laid eyes upon you. ever since he had found out that you had expressed interest in his researcher, George wasn't safe from being the victim of Lockwoods relentless jokes.
"hey, Georgie" you said smiling and Lockwood send George a knowing look, like he was trying to say that he had predicted it.
"h-hi y/n" George always stumbled over his words when you were around. Lockwood found it embarrassing, you would find it endearing
"Lockwood" you greeted, nodding in the boys direction.
"hey, y/n" Lockwood smiled and watched while George tried to find his coolness. wherever it had gone this time
"so what do we have here?" you asked, looking around the old house in which Lockwood and co had just finished another case. you were the primary supervision ever since they had burned down a house. Lockwood and Barnes had agreed upon a DEPRAC agent closing and overseeing the missions for atleast a year.
Lockwood was totally against that at the beginning, but since he met you, he didn't really mind. you were young and nice, not stuck up like most of DEPRAC's agents, and he loved that you were quite possible the only person George got startled by.
"Lockwood knows the most about-"
"I'd like to hear it from you, sweetheart" you smiled at George. the boy grew red as a tomato and Lockwood giggled.
"can't wait to tell Lucy about this" he called in your direction
"maybe you could also ask her to sit down George and teach him how to flirt. he's not doing very well at the moment" Lockwood raised his finger and pointed at you, fully agreeing to what you were saying, but laughing too hard to actually say anything
George gulped "eh, returning back to the case"
"yes" you nodded eagerly "returning back to the case" you interlocked your arms and walked him inside the house, listening intensively to what he was telling you, or more trying to tell you. it was a bit hard to tell through his stutter and the little moments in which his eyes would just linger on your lips
Lockwood was absolutely sure that George was utterly in love with you. not that you would mind, you had been trying to score a date ever since you had met the boy. you had to agree that George was quiet hard to crack. not because he was particularly good at masking how he felt, but more because he would turn red and break into a stutter at literally everything you said, even in the moments you really didn't intend to flirt.
but that made you like him even more. you knew that he wasn't a douchebag that would just play with your feelings, like the many boys you had dated before stumbling upon this very endearing one.
"so, y/n" George clamped his hands together, while you both made your way outside, after discussing the case and you formally declaring it as closed.
"yes, George?" you asked smiling
"maybe, I-" he stopped himself before he could stumble over his words again "do you mind going out with me some time this week?"
"really?" you beamed surprised. he was never that straightforward normally, you had probably rubbed off on him
the boy nodded his head, unsure if your reaction meant something positive
"of course" you answered quickly, as you noticed George's growing insecurity
"great, maybe I could get some flirting lessons from Lucy before"
"I mean if you want to" you agreed "but that was just a little joke, I like how flustered you always are. and I don't think you need to flirt, its not even possible for me to like you more than I already do"
"really?" now he was the one that wad surprised
"of course" you giggled "you haven't picked up on that?"
"no, not really" he shrugged his shoulders "I thought Lockwood was just messing with me"
"well, I liked you very much and nothing that you do or don't do would change anything on that matter" you assured "let me know if Lockwood is mean to you again, then I might sit him down and teach him how to behave"
"I don't think he would like that" George grinned happily, he seemed relaxed as he reached out for your hand and interlaced your fingers
"even better" you giggled
âItâs late, you should be asleepâ for a george x reader please. maybe one of them is working to hard for a case and the other has to coerce them to bed with cuddles

summary: just the ask!!
notes: wow I was gone for such a long time! sorry about that, I'm trying to pick up writing again and firstly finish everything I have in my asks!! sorry this is so short, I don't really know, why, but I was really struggling with this one!
warnings: none
"y/n, for god's sake! do you know how late it is?" George had stumbled onto you, still reading in your chair in the kitchen
"I just have to finish this, I'm so close to cracking this"
"I don't care, y/n! it's late, you should be asleep, end of story"
"George" you whined, knowing him enough to know that he wouldn't leave you be
"stop taking after Lockwood for once in your life and come to bed with me"
"just a few more pages"
he shook his head. "you have well enough time to finish that in the morning" he smiled at you "come on, we can cuddle, you know?"
"ugh" you just made, not fully convinced yet, but knowing he was as close to cracking you as you were to this case "please, George!" you whined again "you know I wouldn't be able to sleep comfortably if i didn't get to finish this first"
"okay, alright" George stepped to the counter and turned the kettle on "we're finishing it together, but if it takes longer than an hour, we go to bed"
"sounds like a plan"
together you were able to finish everything off just under 45 minutes, you could say that both of you were quite proud â and tired.
you put out the lights in the kitchen and gladly followed George up to his room, where he opened his arms for you to slither right in.
"next time, you won't stay up this long without telling me, alright?" he muttered just above your ear, you face buried in his chest
"who says there's gonna be a next time?" you whispered "I'm never leaving this bed again"
George just shook his head laughing "that sounds alright to me" he paused "now go to sleep before you can think of anything else you'd like to solve right now"
"you mean like the thing behind the door on the threshold?"
"oh my god, woman!"
you just laughed at your boyfriends annoyance and quickly closed your eyes, before he would try to sing a lullaby for you.

summary: george is struggling, but able to tell the reader whatâs been going on with him
warnings: none
prompts: are bold
George was sitting in the living room of portland row, working on a crossword puzzle
"hey" you greeted, as you sat down next to him. "how are you?"
"I'm good, why'd you ask?" he didn't even look up from his writing.
"you have been quiet these past few days, I'm worried. I mean you would tell me if anything was wrong, right?" George nodded absently "sure" his voice sounded drained and you weren't even sure of he had listened to you.
"George" you dragged out his name and poked his side with your fingers "speak with me, please"
"what do you want to hear?" he sounded tired, and you regretted your playful manner to treat the situation.
"I want to hear, what you have to say" you answered, honestly and serious "I want you to tell me what's bothering you, so I can get rid of it"
"I don't think you could get rid of Lockwood and Lucy" he breathed, writing down the word 'attention', before he looked up at you for the first time. "that'd be illegal. because that's murder"
"ehh" you made, unsure what to answer "Lockwood and Lucy are what's bothering you?"
"no, not particularly them. its just, they leave me out of the stuff most of the time, I"ve gotten used to it by now, but still"
"oh George" you smiled sadly "you could've told me sooner. do you have the feeling I leave you out of stuff too?"
he shrugged "sometimes, but I know you don't do it on purpose, just like they don't"
you heart nearly broke upon hearing his words and tears welled up in your eyes. "I wish I had known, George. i'm so sorry" you squeezed his hand
he shrugged again. "most of the time I don't mind. but sometimes I feel lonely" he paused "i've tried to keep up, change those things about myself that differentiate myself from you three. be more reckless like Lockwood, brave like Lucy and adventurous like you, but it just isn't as easy as I thought it would be"
he looked up to you once again and a single tear escaped his eye. "I thought if I changed, I would fit in better"
"you fit in just right" you assured
"I don't know" George shook his head "back when Lockwood founded the agency he only had me, and he needed me. but now, he has Lucy and you and you can do what I could and even more, you're smart and you're good at fighting ghosts. I lack the second quality" he shrugged with a half smile on his face "no one would care if I suddenly disappeared"
you shook your head, tears screaming down your face "I would"
George's words broke your heart. not only how he felt, but that he come to a conclusion where he found it absolutely logical that he wasn't needed. that he didn't fit in and would never. you knew about his family. the brothers that had, in his eyes, achieved so much more than him. you had hoped that it would be different for him here. he was needed and loved and he was a part of this.
"please stop acting like there's no one that cares about you. because that's simply not true" you shook your head as hard as you could "we love you so much George, and we need you. not just on the team, but as our friend, our family"
"I don't know, y/n"
"it breaks my heart hearing you say those things, they're far from true. but we can work on it, George, I promise. whatever will make you feel better. we won't let you go, you're not disposable you're needed and loved and I'm sorry we made you feel like you aren't. I will make personally sure, that'll never happen again, okay? but please in the future, just tell us how you feel. we are a family and we care about you"
George nodded and for the first time, it seemed like you had woken him out of his trance.
"thank you" he smiled softly, squeezing your hand
you engulfed him in a hug, plastering kisses onto his cheeks and you could hear him giggle "I wouldn't know what to do without you" you assured.
"I'm glad you don't have to think about it" he joked and you squeezed him even harder.
DAY 12: SNOWMAN
pairing: george karim x fem!reader
summary: a situation in which you are trapped, causes george and you to confess
warnings: none
you were sitting down in the kitchen, sipping your tea. lucy and lockwood were out, trying to get information about the new case, while george was in the archives and you were already trying to note down anything you had found in the books of lockwoods own library.
âstupid bobbyâ the front door shut loudly âstupid fittes teamâ
âwoahâ you said, standing from your seat and holding up your hands at george, trying to calm him down a bit. "what happened?"
"nothing" he sat down in his usual seat, defeated.
"that can't be true" you smiled, shaking your head
"fine" he said, standing up and filling the kettle with water "bobby said a few things about you"
"he did?" you wondered, as your eyes followed him around the kitchen.
"yeah" he put the kettle on the stove "said you two were pretty close and that he would ask you on a date these days"
"huh" you nodded "i suppose we talk now and then, but close..?" you left the rest of the sentence unfinished, trying to think about a situation which would assume that bobby and you had indeed something going on.
"are you going to say yes?" george had reached for your mug to fill it up with the fresh tea.
"thank you" you smiled as he put it down in front of you "to what?"
"to the date" george sat down across from you.
"hm.. no" you shook your head "i don't like bobby like that"
"kipps said something else"
"kipps?" you repeated baffled "how is everyone suddenly involved in this?"
george just shrugged.
you sighed. "what did kipps say?"
"he said that you were always looking at bobby as if you were in love with him"
your eyes widened and you leaned forward "i'm looking at bobby as if i was in love with him?" you repeated.
george thought you had asked him and shook his head "not that i noticed, and that's exactly what i said. i told them to stop talking rubbish and focus on their own personal affairs"
"thank you" you nodded, before you suddenly remembered, why anyone would think that "oh"
"what is it?" george asked confused.
"i think i now why they thought this"
"you do?" george scrunched his eyesbrows together and seemed less relaxed than before.
"yeah, i do quite often look at bobby" you were smiling now, amused "but not because i'm in love with him"
"no?"
"no" you shook your head, laughing "i think he does look awfully lot like that boy who plays spider-man"
"huh" george leaned back in his seat, thinking about what you had just said, then he began to smile as well "you're right" his hand rushed forward to high-five you, but his elbow accidently hit his mug, which caused the tea to spill all over the table and your jeans
"oh shit" george had quickly stumbled onto his feet, turning around to the counter, to grab some paper towels, but there weren't any left.
"seems like lockwood forgot to fill them again" you sighed, standing up "i'll grab some"
you walked down to the basement, george hot on your heels. "you shouldn't have to get them" he said guilty "it was my fault, you should've stayed upstairs"
"don't worry" you smiled, handing him the padlock of the high security room, where you now also stored things for the kitchen occassionally.
"no, i'm sorry. those are your favorite jeans, and i ruined them" while you were searching through the stuff from your last shopping trip, george put the padlock into the door, so he could help you.
"they should be in the yellow bag" he said from next to you
"yes!" you smiled as you took them out "lockwood really didn't put away anything from when he went shopping"
"typical" george shook his head.
you walked back to the door, but stopped in your tracks when you noticed it was locked.
"what is it?" george asked from behind you, unsure why you stopped before leaving the room-
"the door is locked" you replied, without turning around, while you inspected it closer "i think the padlock must've accidently closed"
"shit" george said for the second time in twenty minutes "now we have to wait for lockwood and lucy to pass the key through"
"don't you have one?"
george shook his head "lockwood took it to bring the groceries down here"
"amazing" you smiled sarcastically, before you grabbed an old blanket and put it on the ground for george and you to sit on. you both leaned against the wall enjoying the comfortable silence.
"when do you thinkâ"
"i have to tell youââ
you both started to speak at the same time. "sorry" both of you muttered apologetically.
"what did you want to say?" george asked, but you shook your head.
"you go first" you smiled "what you had to say sounded much more interesting"
"hmm" george hummed, not quiet sure if he still wanted to say what he did a second before. he then decided to be brave "i wanted to tell you for a long time now, but i like you, like like you. more than a friend" he winced, quickly closing his eyes, so he didn't have to look at how you reacted to his statement.
"george" you said and he opened his eyes. the smile on your face almost made him want to close them again. now came probably the time you would laugh at him and he couldnât even escape your mockery. "are you kidding?" you asked instead of laughing and he looked up in surprise "are you really scared of how i would react? i thought i made it pretty clear that i like you more than a friend too"
"you do?"
"of course, silly" you laughed and he breathed a sigh of relief
"thank god" he smiled "that could've gone so south, considering we live in the same house and are currently locked in a room together"
"true" you pecked his lips like it was the most natural thing to do and his eyes widened. then you got up from the ground.
"what are you doing?" he was close behind you
"don't you hear that?" you pointed to the ceiling and really, george could faintly make out lockwoods talking.
"they're back" he said and you nodded
"how about you accompany me to my room and we continue our conversation as soon as lockwoods hears our calling"
"i'd love to" george said smiling and you both starting banging on the door.

DAY 14: DECK THE HALLS
pairing: platonic!lockwood and co x reader
summary: decorating cookies at portland row
warnings: none
the light in the hallway was dim as you walked into portland row. you had a bag slung over your shoulder and gently pulled it off before you closed the door.
"guys?" you called, walking into hallway. you took off your shoes and put down your jacket, before you brought the big plastic bag filled with the contents of your shopping trip into the kitchen.
"hey" george and lucy, who had heard you calling, walked into the kitchen behind you. you turned around, smiling at them.
âlook what i boughtâ you pointed to the bag and george emptied it across the table. it was filled with food colouring, sprinkles and other necessities for decorating along a few stance forms for cookies.
george and lucy smiled at it. âbaking cookies huh?â lucy asked
âi thought we could all do it togetherâ you nodded âitâs just fun, especially when youâre not aloneâ
âsureâ george wasnât really convinced
"where is lockwood?" you wondered. it wasn't normal to not see him when you came home, especially if you had went shopping. he was always eager to help.
"he's training" lucy pointed to the basement door
"alright" you walked down the steps and leaned against the wall, just waiting for lockwood to see you
"jeez! y/n" he exclaimed shocked, a hand pressing down on his heart "what are you doing here?"
"was trying to get you upstairs" you smiled "we're gonna bake and decorate cookies, thought you might want to join us"
"yeah" lockwood smiled and let the rapier fall into the holder. "of course" he followed you up the stairs.
lucy and george were already busy, taking out the dough of the fridge. you had made it yesterday evening, so all of you could decorate it now.
you and lockwood literred the table in pads, so you could roll the dough on that. then the four of you got to work. each one of you picked out a cookie stance. lucy had the mitten, george took the reindeeir, lockwood had the christmas tree and you took the angel, like always.
you worked in silence, while christmas music was playing from the radio. after you had finished the dough, lockwood and george put them into the oven.
"we need some of that" you pointed to the powdered sugar "and some of that" george grabbed milk and melted butter for you. then you started making the icing, while your friends watched how you did that easily, without a recipe. you just added whatever you thought was necessary and mixed it.
lucy took out a few bowls and you seperated the icing into them, so each one of you could color it.
lucy decided on blue, lockwood took red, which turned a bit pink and george picked yellow. you decided on a mix between blue and red, giving you a beautiful purple color.
after the cookies had finished baking, you took them out of the oven and got back to decorating. each of you glassed them in the icing, before you let the sprinkles fall over them, decorating them beautifully.
you smiled proudly when all of you were done. you let the cookies dry and finished cleaning the kitchen, before each of you sat down, a cookie in hand.
"delicious" complimented george and you looked at him in surprise "i might be the best cook, but you'll always be the best baker" he grinned and you shook his hand smiling.
"i agree" lockwood mumbled, a bit of crumbles falling out of his mouth.
"best cookies ever" lucy giggled.
you looked from one friend to the other and smiled brightly "merry christmas"
it was indeed, a very merry christmas.

pairing: george karim x gn!reader
summary: george admires you deeply. not only because you're his partner, but because you have an extraordinary gift
warnings: slightly suggestive if you squint, mentions of dying, ghosts, the usual
note: i just noticed, that this was probably the last george fic i'll ever write. it was so fun to write and i love george with all my heart. i hope you guys like it!!
the stairs were rusty and every bit of wood was making a sound when you were walking over it. george was following you and even though you knew it were his steps behind you, they still made you turn around and check. just to be sure.
lockwood and lucy were inspecting the first floor of the house, while you had decided to accompany your boyfriend upstairs, feeling like a type two wasn't far away.
george had been impressed by your ghost fighting skills ever since you had joined lockwood and co. you were one of a kind, able to talk to ghosts and calm them down.
george had been a bit suspicious of you when you had told him and lockwood what you could do.
"sure" george had said "you know, when it gets dark i can fly"
lockwood had noticed the look you where sending his friend and had known right in that moment that the two of you were a match made in heaven. or at least thats what he liked to claim.
in reality he had to seperate the both of you, because you kept making each other more angry.
after your first case george had apologized to you and the rest was history.
"do you have the chain?" you turned around to look at him
he patted the bag hanging from his shoulder. you could hear the silver clinging and nodded relieved. "good"
he followed you into one of the bedrooms and closed the door. he put down the bag and started laying down the chain, while you inspected the walls. "not long" you mumbled while checking the temperature.
"i can feel it too" george got up from the ground and watched you closely. you closed your eyes, feeling over the walls and hearing voices fill the room. you gasped, walking backwards, right into george's arms.
"what is it?" he asked worriedly.
"it was an accident" you mumbled "she isn't angry"
as if on cue, a ghost emerged from the wall. she was flowing in front of you in a constant motion.
"then what is she?" george voice slipped into a light panic.
"sad" you answered softly.
even without your special talent, you were able to notice that the ghost in front of you was the opposite of angry. she wasn't even coming closer. her long hair was flowing in the air and her eyes looked so regretful you almost wanted to pack everything up and leave her alone.
"hello" you said instead.
she looked confused at your try to talk with her.
"i'm y/n" you continued. you pointed behind you "this is george"
george raised his hand hesitantely "ehh, hi!"
"and you're maddy, right?" you asked and the ghost smiled "your mum told us about you" what she left out was any information about how her daughter had died. now you were wishing she hadn't. the eyes of the little girl made you so sad, you almost couldn't concentrate. but you had to.
"yeah" george added, unsure if she could understand him as well. but you had told him she could, as long as he was holding onto your hand.
that was another extraordinary thing george had noticed. you were even able to share your talent, by touching other people. he could only admire you for using your power. he had never met someone less scared of ghosts than you. not even lockwood.
no ghost could scare you, he thought. not even wraiths. most of them would calm down by your presence alone. maybe it was that they had no one to talk to before, or it was just something about you. maybe your smile or your kindness that they could feel and would keep them from hurting you.
"mum" maddy repeated and george's eyes grew soft when he heard her voice. it was a lot to see a young girl as a ghost, but her voice tore his heart open.
"yes" you smiled sympathetically. "she moved, that's why she's been gone"
"because of me?" maddy asked.
you shook your head. "no, sweetheart. she wanted to take her with you, but she didn't know how, so she called us"
maddy smiled.
it was true what you were saying. her mum had been too scared to hurt her or destroy the ghost form of her daughter, while she had sworn that she was a friendly ghost. but she wasn't sure how she would react to the strange agents in her house. she had thought that maddy would be angry perhaps. that's why you came as prepared as you were.
lockwood had promised the woman to safely secure her daughters source, so she could take her with her.
"teddy" maddy said simply. your eyes wandered around the room, until they landed on a chair, a little teddybear sitting on top of it.
"this one?" you asked, picking up the bear.
maddy nodded.
"okay" you smiled. "we will put it under this net. you will be gone for some time, but we will give it to your mum and when you wake up, she will be there, okay?"
"okay" maddy said and george was surprised how easy it was to deal with her. almost too easy. as if on cue, you could hear loud sounds from downstairs.
"the man" maddy said fearfully
"what man, maddy?" you asked, hearing lucy cry out your name "you have to tell us, okay?"
"the angry man" maddy said again "he is screaming and he is mean"
"it's alright, sweetheart" you tried to calm her. george had never seen a ghost be scared before. "wrap her source" you took out the silver net and held it in george's direction. "we will make him leave" you assured maddy "and you will be with your mum"
"okay" maddy nodded and the next second she was gone.
"what now?"
"we have to get rid of an angry man" you smiled, leaving the room and dashing down the stairs to help your friends.
lucy and lockwood were in the middle of a fight with the ghost, when you entered the living room. "y/n" lucy called relieved "maybe you can-" she jumped to the side, escpaping a chair the ghost had swung at her "talk to him"
"i'm not sure that will work" lockwood panted, throwing a few saltbombs. "it won't take him long to come back" he fixed his suit.
"we have to find the source" you turned to george, who nodded at that. "you go" you told lucy and lockwood "we will take care of him"
"are you sure?" lockwood asked and you nodded, making a gesture for them to leave the room. "okay" lockwood said "we'll be quick"
"i know" george took his position next to you
"how about some netflix and chill after this?" you asked as soon as your friends had left the room
"y/n!" the shock on george's face made you giggle
"what?" you laughed "a perfectly normal question if you ask me"
"you are always flirting in near death situations" george rolled his eyes
"yeah" you smiled smugly "but it got you to sleep with me, didn't it?"
"oh my god" george hid his face in his hands
"shit" your words made him look up. the ghost was slowly materialising again. you losened your belt, holding it in george's direction
"are you getting undressed?" george asked and his voice seemed to be a pitch higher than usual
"no" you dragged the word out "the belt is filled with saltbombs. i want you to get behind him and throw it, in case my plan doesn't work"
"what plan?"
"just do it, darling" george complied hesitantely, but did eventually walk across the room, behind the patch where the ghost was slowly coming back.
"hello" you muttered "maddy already told us about you"
"a talker" the ghost bid back, in a voice that send shivers down your spine. he seemed to be intrigued by you, which held him back from attacking you. well at least for now. "did she now?"
"she's scared of you"
"did you destroy her?" he was a lot calmer than he was before, george noticed, so he relaxed a bit, having new found trust in your abilities
"no" you said, truthfully "her mum is moving. she couldn't leave her behind" you explained "where did you come from? you weren't mentioned"
"i wasn't mentioned?" he repeated, laughing sarcastically "this is my house. i was here before any of you were even born" he screamed the last part and george was ready to throw the belt.
not yet, you mouthed in his direction. "we want to find your source. you'll be at peace" you said
"you want to destroy me" the ghost corrected angrily, but to george's surprise you didn't falter at his tone, but rather matched it.
"we want to save you" you said between clenched teeth "there's a clear difference there. let us help"
"you can't fool me" the ghost laughed
"fighting me is a lost cause" you crossed your arms "we got the best listener in the country. she will find your source and any fight will be in vain"
"you're foolish" the ghost muttered "you can talk to us and you don't use it for bigger things? we could rule the world" he clenched his fist, raising it diabotically.
"sorry" you smiled "i have a date at seven"
in the exact same second, as the ghost began charging at you, lucy called from the next room. do it you mouthed in george's direction. "contain it!" you called to the next room, moving on your feet quickly, to dodge the ghost's closer coming form.
george threw the saltbombs and a second later, the ghost disappeared. lockwood and lucy came back into the room. lucy held up the silver net, which was wrapped around a book.
"the bible" she said "who would've thought?"
"i don't care about his source" you shrugged your shoulders "let's get maddy back to her mum"
your friends nodded. leaving the house close behind you. ghosts like the second one where the true threat to your world, but maddy was the opposite. you didn't use your powers in a wrong way, like the man had claimed. you were doing the right thing with them. helping people who weren't able to help themselves.
on the way out you interlaced yours and george's fingers, thankful that the world you were living in had at least brought you both together.
all american bitch
pairing: anthony lockwood x fem!reader
summary: everyone knew there was something wrong in the way that quill talked to you, and slowly you started noticing as well
warnings: swearing, making out, sexual references, trauma, death of a relative and quill acting like a jerk
a/n: i don't particulary like quill in this fic and i'm not really sure if his character development (or the reasons why he did what he did) makes sense, but i just love to write happy endings, so please just ignore it lol
lockwood was doing what he did often, watching you sit on a stair, wating for your brother to come back, without moving a muscle.
"do you see that?" lockwood turned his head to look at george, pointing you out to his friend "he just lets her sit there and disappears for gods knows how long"
"it's a shame" george nodded and lockwood couldn't tell if he was being sarcastic or genuine. "but everyone knows how he treats her, lockwood and it's her own decision, that she tolerates that. i don't think she would fancy you saving her"
lockwood decided to ignore the last thing george had said "how bad of a brother do you have to be for everyone else to know?"
george just shrugged and lockwood was ready to repeat what he had said (for the simple need of getting an answer), when lucy entered his field of vision and involuntary declared herself his new victim.
"thank you, george" lockwood patted his friends shoulder, while pushing his empty glass into the hands of one very confunsed george.
"do you see that?" lockwood stepped next to lucy, without bothering to think of a new introductory sentence.
"huh?" lucy turned her head to the side, confused by lockwoods sudden appearance. "what did you say?"
lockwood pointed in your direction and lucy followed his eyes
"y/n?" lucy asked, not sure what lockwood was saying
"yeah, y/n" lockwood nodded aggravated "just y/n" he took a glass of champagne from one of the servers trays, downing it at once. "he left her waiting again. i thought maybe you could go talk to her, you being a girl and all"
lucy rolled her eyes, glaring at the boy "you want me to go over there and tell her to not accept her brother treating her horribly?"
"precisely"
"her brother who's a decorated member at fittes?"
lockwood nodded again "forget it" lucy shook her head, laughing dryly "i'm not getting involved in quill kipps' mess"
"it's y/n's mess too!" lockwood said angrily, outstretching his arm and pointing his hand in your direction
"why don't you go over there?" lucy crossed her arms, smiling triumphantly.
"because it's not my business?" lockwood said a bit too fast, not thinking his answer through. lucy send him a blank stare. "yeah, i'll just go over there" lockwood said quickly, not in the mood to fight with lucy and lose once again
"yeah, you better" lucy waved at him
lockwood groaned under his breath, putting his empty glass on an abondened table, before he continued his walk in your direction. as always, you were looking beautiful. your hair was curled and your dress had the most beautiful maroon color he had ever seen.
you turned your head in his direction, noticing him, when he was a few meters away. it wouldn't have taken a genius to see that anthony lockwood was in love with you, and still you had never noticed.
"hey" lockwood smiled, holding out his hand to help you up "you shouldn't be sitting on those stairs, your dress might get ruined"
"oh, well, quill has been gone for some minutes and it was too tiring to stand this entire time"
"why don't you join our table, then?" lockwood suggested
you looked through the crowd of people, trying to find quill. you laughed, unsurely, before you finally nodded "it probably wouldn't hurt" you smiled, taking him up on his offer and following him through the crowd.
"hey guys!" you smiled once your sight fell on george and lucy. both of them just stared back at you with big eyes. "sorry" you scratched your arm "do i have something on my face?" george quickly shook his head, while lucy stayed motionless in place
finally. "lockwood" lucy said through gritted teeth "could i talk to you for a second?"
you send a confused look in lockwoods direction, who just smiled at you, totally unaffected by lucy's threatening tone. "why don't you sit down with george?" he pulled back one of the chairs for you to sit down "we'll be back in just a second"
you nodded, sitting down on the chair. lockwood and lucy didn't really walk far until they started discussing. you could make out some words like 'kipp's mess' and 'saviour complex' that lucy directed at lockwood.
you smiled awkwardly at george. "how do you.. like the party this far?"
"eeh, it's fine" george looked anywhere but at you
"food and drinks are free" you smiled, nudging him "that sounds a bit better than just fine, doesn't it?"
george shrugged, seemingly uninterested in holding up a conversation with you and before you could start another hopeless attempt to get him to speak, lockwood and lucy were already back. by the looks of it they were not able to sort out their differences.
lucy sat down in the chair next to george, crossing her arms and sending looks at lockwood that could've killed.
lockwood, absolutely unbothered, didn't even look at her. instead he was watching you. "do you want to eat something?" he asked "we haven't ordered anything yet"
you shook your head "nah, i promised quill that we would eat together"
"how long has he been gone for?" lockwood asked intrigued
you shrugged your shoulders "i don't know, an hour maybe?"
"woah, that's pretty long, right guys?" lockwood looked between george and lucy, obviously expecting some type of reaction. lucy ignored him completely, while george nodded slowly, unsure if he wanted to even get involved in whatever lockwood was doing.
you shook your head "it's fine. i don't mind waiting"
"you can stay with us" lucy smiled at you and made it perfectly clear, that she wasn't angry at you, but lockwood. you always liked lucy. she was welcoming and you loved to listen to her complain about her two male roommates.
with george you didn't really have a relationship. you were friendly towards each other but never really talked apart from that.
and lockwood? lockwood something different. your brother hated him, so you weren't really allowed to spend any time in his company, apart from when they would fight with each other. but he was always nice and you could call him a friend. you had done your best to prevent it, but you had also developed a little crush on him these past few years. something quill would have your head for if he knew. but lockwood was your chance of freedom. he was everything your brother despised and that just made it all the more daunting.
"lockwood" the voice behind you send shivers down your spine.
"kipps" lockwood smiled, overly satisfied, while he turned around in his chair, putting an protective arm on yours and blocking your brothers contact to you.
"y/n" quill muttered "didn't i tell you to wait there?" he poined across the room
you sighed silently "sorry" you patted lockwoods leg "we were just catching up and you were gone for some time, so i thought-" you didn't get to finish that sentence
"what the fuck do you not understand in 'wait here'?" quill was angry and you didnt want to fight. but before you could say sorry again, lucy jumped to your rescue.
"this is all your fault" she muttered under her breath, seemingly talking to lockwood before she turned her head to your brother "i'm really sorry" she smiled brightly "i thought y/n and i could talk a bit. i miss having a girl around"
"oh" quill said confused. his anger had suddenly evapurated. he didn't really mind you spending time with girl generally or lucy in particular. "well, i didn't know that" he averted his eyes. "i'll be at our table. see you there" he walked away and you knew that this was him telling you to be there in less than ten minutes or something would happen
"does- does he always talk to you like that?" george asked hesitantely. you could see on his face that he was unsure if he wanted an answer to that. he probably didn't even want to involve himself in anything that was about you.
"yeah" you muttered, a bit ashamed of the way your brother acted even in front of other people "at least since i'm living with him"
"why don't you just leave?" lucy leaned over the table, confusion evident on her face
"i won't" you said honestly "after our dad died, my mother wasn't able to finance my schooling, but quill was. i owe him something"
"you don't owe him anything" lockwood shook his head "don't you ever get angry at the way he treats you"
"more often than you would think" you eyes wandered across the room. quill was telling some fittes guy a story. he was laughing and widely gesturing. you couldn't remember the last time he had laughed in your presence. "he didn't always used to be like this. our father and him were close and it took a toll on him"
"you're still his sister" lucy reminded
"oh, i know that" you smiled sadly "i wouldn't have stayed if i wasn't"
"how long are you planning to stay?"
you shrugged your shoulders. "as long as i have to. i'll save some money until i have enough to pay him back and rent something"
lockwood looked at his friends. eyebrows raised. you could see the gears turning in their heads, before lucy repeatedly shook her head. george didn't seem happy as well. lockwood turned back to you
"how would you liked to work at lockwood and co?" he asked, beaming "you could move in with us, save money to pay your brother back and not have to indulge his presence. i hear you're pretty good with sight"
you were stunned at his suggestion "do you really mean that?" you asked hopeful
"yeah, lockwood" lucy raised her eyebrows, daring him to answer "do you really mean that?"
"of course" lockwood smiled "we want to help you, right guys?" lucy and george both averted their eyes. you noticed the growing tension
"you really don't have to" you said "i don't think george or lucy are too convinced. i can take another year or two with quill"
as if on cue, quill made his way across the venue. "shit" you whispered as soon as you noticed him moving closer. you did the first thing you could think of, knowing he would cause a scene as soon as he had found you. you took lockwoods hands, dragging him in the other direction quickly.
you two ended up in a broom closet. of all places.
"did you meant to walk into a broom closet?" lockwood asked behind you
"of course not" you opened the door slowly "well. it's too late now anyway" you closed the door again and leaned your back against it
"okay, why are we here exactly?" lockwood made a gesture to open the door, but you pushed him back slightly
"my brother would've caused a scene if he had found me"
"alright" lockwood said, but then raised his brows "and he wouldn't if he found you here?"
you suddenly noticed how you had brought yourself into an even worse situation. lockwood and you were standing pretty close to each other. you could feel his breath fanning over your cheek and you nodded. "he totally would" you laughed and lockwood joined in "he hates you guts"
"can't say i particulary like him" lockwood admitted shamelessly "but he has a beautiful sister"
"well, thank you" you could feel the redness entering you cheeks. at least it was a bit darker in here "he probably would cut my head off if he found us here. even if i told him that it isn't what it looks like"
"well, what does it look like?" lockwood muttered, even closer now
you looked up at him with big eyes. he almost falted under that look. he wanted to kiss you so badly and he was wishing you would indicate the same
"i mean- eh it does look pretty compromising"
"does it now?"
"yeah" your voice had jumped a pitch higher at his close proximity. but you couldn't help but wish for him to finally kiss you. "please" you muttered
"what do you want, darling?" he asked softly, pushing one strand of hair behind your ear.
"please" you repeated "kiss me"
lockwood didn't wait for a second demand. he closed the space between you, interlocking your lips. he tasted sweet, a bit like marshmallows and you smiled into the kiss. your hands wandered to his neck, pushing him impossibly closer, while his hands wandered to your lower back, returning the pressure you were exerting.
he pressed you against the door and you voluntarily opened your mouth for his tongue to enter. faster than you had expected, he broke the kiss, sloppily kissing your neck instead
"shit" you muttered lowly. you quickly gripped his neck, pushing his face away from your neck and back to your mouth. you continued that play for at least ten minutes, when you suddenly remembered why you had been hiding here in the first place
"thank you for your offer" you said, breathlessly "but i can do it for a bit longer"
"is he ever gonna stop treating you this way?" lockwood kissed your temple
"i don't know" you shrugged "but i will talk to him. you guys were right, i shouldn't just accept it. my father died too"
"i'll be here anytime you need me" lockwood assured "or anytime you just want to make out"
you smiled brightly at the boy, pecking his lips, before you opened the door to the closet. "time for the real world, pretty boy"
"i like the sound of.." lockwood interrupted himself. right before the very door you had come out of, now watching your flustered faces distastefully, was standing none other than quill kipps
"what the fuck" he said angrily when he had connected the dots. you were ready to tell him that nothing had happened, but suddenly remembered that that wouldn't be the whole truth
"hey" you smiled, unsure what to say in your defence
"y/n" quill said slowly, and you were glad that the room was outside of the ballroom. the guests or anyone else wouldn't hear him scream at you. "did you two just fuck in there?" you could almost see smoke coming out of his ears. his eyes had fallen to to strap of your dress, that was now hanging at your elbow. you quickly fixed it
"what?" you asked surprised "no, of course not" you knew lockwood was smiling without looking at him. he put his arm around you, pulling you closer at your waist.
"you're not speaking to your sister in that tone" he declared and you send him a wide eyed look. it was hard enough for you to stand up for quill, but he definitely would never listen to lockwood of all people
"yeah, or what?"
"watch yourself" lockwood was angry now, too. "she's still your sister"
"and you are?" quill crossed his arms "you're no one, nothing to her at all"
"leave him alone" you muttered. you had never once even protested at what your brother had said at you, but it was different when he spoke to lockwood that way
"what the fuck did you just say?" quill asked surprised, he had forgotten his anger for the time to be
"you heard me" you said a bit louder now "and you heard him too. you can change your tone when speaking to me"
"ooh" quill laughed "the little miss is making demands"
"i tolerated it long enough" you reminded him "i understood you were griefing, but so was i. you never had any sympathy towards me, so why would i still have any for you? especially since you're ordering me around like your little maid" lockwood squeezed your side
"who put a roof over your head? who payed for everything and anything you needed?"
"you did"
"right" quill smiled smugly
"and i'm thankful for you doing all of that for me. i never even complained, but all of it does not warrant you treating me the way you do"
"watch what you're saying" quill pointed his finger at you accusingly "i prepared you for the real world, i brought you up and you go and throw all of it away for some boy. why do you act like a slut"
the gasp that left lockwoods mouth could've been loud enough for everyone outside the building to hear
"how dare you call me that?" tears entered your eyes slowly. lockwood was pulling up his sleeves, ready to fight the older boy, but you held his arm down. "i'm still your sister" you reminded quill, who looked a bit remorseful at your tears
he sighed, turning away, before he looked back at you "i didn't mean it like that. you're making it hard for me to trust you when you walk off and sleep with the enemy as soon as i leave you own your own"
"i didn't even sleep with him" you screamed angrily. quills eyes had grown big. never in your life had you ever screamed at him. "but if i wanted to i could, because i'm almost an adult"
"you're a kid" quill spat "and it's my job to take care of you. make sure that you turn out well and not get yourself knocked up at seventeen"
"oh my god" you groaned "i didn't sleep with anyone" you repeated once again
"i know" quill said surprisingly soft "but mum did. she ended up pregnant and without any degree in anything. and now, after dadâs death she has nothing to support you with, not even herself. i want you to make different decisions, to be smart and learn something, before you lose focus and fall in love"
you sighed "i understand that" you turned your head to look at lockwood, smiling slightly "but i think it's already too late"
quill sighed as well.
"you didn't have to treat me the way you did" you said "you could've just been honest with me, you know?"
"i know" quill nodded "but i was never good at these things.." he paused, tears briming at the corners of his eyes "dad was"
"i miss him too" you admitted, your voice breaking "and i hate what his death did to you. you weren't always like this"
quill nodded and couldn't bring himself to look you in the eyes. you were right about this, he knew you were. but he had just tried to make a good person out of you. he knew that it wasn't an excuse, but he was working in a dangerous field and he thought that if he would be distant and mean, you wouldn't mourn his death as much as you had did your dad's. "i'm sorry" quill said truthfully and you could see the remorse in his eyes
"i don't want to hate you"
quill nodded
"but you have to be better. an apology alone is not enough. i love you but i'm not beneath receiving any love back" you told him "you have to change the way you treat me, honestly quill, it's not okay" slowly, but determinated, you stepped closer to hug him.
you couldn't remember the last time you had done that. you had missed you brothers warmth. he had always been a good brother, before all this mess had happened and you knew you could forgive him eventually. both of you had taken far too long to have an honest conversation
"we will fix it, i promise" quill muttered into your hair and you nodded, before you losened the hug.
quill's eyes fell upon lockwood. he send him a nod. "thank you for being nice to her"
lockwood contemplated to scatter salt into the wound by saying something along the lines of 'i was just doing what you apparently couldn't', but then instead he just nodded. "of course"
quill smiled tightlipped, before he turned back to you. "and once we get home, we will have a very important conversation"
"quill" you laughed uncomfortably and your brother laughed as well. the sound send shivers down your spine and you had rarely been this happy. for the first time in a long time it seemed like everything would become good again.
"i'll call you" you smiled in lockwoods direction, before you followed your brother out of the estate.
not because he had told you, but because you just wanted to and that was a very good feeling.

teenage dream
pairing: george karim x fem!reader
summary: one part of you loved fighting ghosts and doing your jobs, the other isnât so sure if thatâs really the right thing for you
warnings: none, but kinda sad, no fluff at the end like usual :(
you were moving through the room frantically, trying to fight the ghost to the best of your abilities.
george called your name repeatedly, before you turned your head, noticing that he was ready to throw the salt bombs. you quickly stepped aside, leaving room for him to throw them at the type two.
just after the ghost reappeared in the corner of the room, he suddenly disappeared, probably because lucy and lockwood had found the source.
george picked up his rapier, that he had lost at the beginning of the fight, before he stepped next to you, your eyes still fixated on where the ghost had last appeared.
"are you alright?" it took a few seconds for his question to register in your mind, before you nodded. "good" he smiled, but you could see a hint of disbelief in his features. "let's go" he took your hand and both of you walked into the entryway of the haunted house.
lucy and lockwood just came down the stairs when you arrived.
"is that it?" lucy asked and lockwood shrugged, before he finally nodded.
"i think so" he looked around the room, before his eyes eventually landed on you "do you still feel anything, y/n?"
your mind had drifted off and only focused when you heard him call your name. "what?" you asked, not missing the worried expression of george.
"do you still feel anything? any hints of another ghost?" lockwood repeated his question and you shook your head. "great, the one ghost was also all mrs wheeler mentioned so we should be finished" he turned around and walked into the kitchen where he collected the rest of your stuff, lucy helping him.
"are you sure, you are alright?" george asked you once your friends were out of ear shot "everyone of us has been unwell after a mission before, it's normal"
"i'm not unwell" you losely protested "i'm fine, just tired"
"okay" george decided it was no use to press further into the matter. you would talk to him as soon as you felt ready.
"let's go home then" lucy and lockwood carried the huge dufflebags you had brought to the mission. both george and you nodded, before either of you helped one of the others to carry the stuff.
over the next few weeks, george did not notice any strange behaviour from you. he decided that it had just been a matter of tiredness and had resolved by itself.
"happy birthday, dear y/n" the whole of lockwood and co were singing when you came down the stairs into the kitchen.
george had made a beautiful cake, decorated in your favorite colour, candles forming the number 19 in the middle. lucy lightened the candles just as you sat down.
"blow them out" lockwood encouraged.
"and don't forget your wish" lucy added, raising a finger.
you did as you were told, blowing out the candles, while your friends broke out into cheering.
"happy birthday" george muttered, plastering a kiss on your cheek and one on your mouth when you turned your head. he furrowed his eyebrows when he noticed the almost heartbroken expression on your face, but quickly forgot about that as the smile returned to your face.
"thank you guys" you smiled as lucy started cutting the cake.
it was only after that day that george noticed you acting differently more often. you would stay in bed on days were you weren't booked. you would come too late to team meetings or forgot to show at all.
george grew more and more worried and the rest of the team also started noticing that something wasn't right.
george understood that whatever was going on with you, might've been not something you liked to talk about with lucy and lockwood, but he was your boyfriend. though you had created so much space between the two of you, he wasn't sure what to make of it anymore.
he wanted to give you time to sort out whatever was plaguing your mind, when all came crushing down on a particularly dangerous mission.
"today was close" lucy said when you came back that day. her voice was just a whisper as her, george and lockwood watched you walk up the stairs to your room without another word.
"you have to talk to her" lockwood advised, touching george's arm as if to assure his sympathy.
"i don't know what to say" george said honestly "she won't even talk to me and i don't want to press a topic she doesn't want to talk about"
"but you have to" lucy protested "next time it won't be a window that get's destroyed but one of our heads"
"we wouldn't ask this of you, if it wasn't important" lockwood sighed, feeling for his friend and the complicated situation he was in.
george nodded, watching after his friends that walked up the stairs. he resumed to the kitchen, knowing that you would come down most days, making yourself tea, before you would go to bed.
you opened the door to the kitchen just half an hour later, not expecting george to sit at the table, sipping on his own tea.
your eyes were dull and your shoulders slumped. george's heart ached at the sight of you. he couldn't ignore it any longer.
"the water is still hot" he muttered, pointing to the kettle on the stove. "can we talk?" he asked, once you had filled your cup and sat down next to him.
you paused in your movement of stirring the tea, looking up at him with a mixture of exhaustion and resignation. "yeah, sure."
"what's been going on with you?" george asked softly. "you've been so distant lately, you're not yourself. i feel like i'm losing you."
you took a deep breath, your eyes welling up with tears you had tried so hard to suppress. "george, i... i don't know how to say this."
"just say it," he urged, his voice gentle but firm. he was scared of what was to follow, but he had to know, even if it was something he never hoped to hear. "whatever it is, i'm here for you."
you looked away, staring at the floor as if it could provide you with the right words, shame bubbling in your chest. "i've been feeling... lost. like, really lost. i look at my life and i see nothing but ghosts and danger. i feel like i've wasted my youth fighting something that never ends."
george's brows furrowed, his heart clenching at your words. "what do you mean? you're amazing at what you do. we need you."
you shook your head, a tear slipping down your cheek. "but at what cost, george? i look at other people our age, living normal lives, having fun, and i wonder... what if that could've been me? what if i'm missing out on my own youth?"
george reached out, taking your hand in his. "you're not missing out. we're doing something important, something that matters. and we're doing it together."
"but that's just it" you whispered, your voice breaking. "i don't know if i can keep doing this"
"everyone feels lost sometimes, that's part of being a teenager, it's gonna get better" you wished his reassuring words had some effect on you, but they didn't.
"but what if i don't?" your words were just above a whisper.
george's heart ached for you and the pain between your words and in your eyes. his breath hitched, tears gathering in his own eyes. just like you had feared, he didn't have an answer to your question.
"i love you george" you said softly "but i have to find out what i want and who i am, outside of this life. i'm sorry, i wish there was nothing wrong with me, but there is"
george's heart sank at your confession. "there's nothing wrong with you" he tried to assure once again.
"maybe not, but i have to find that out on my own"
"i wish i could do something to help you" george cried "i wish i could fix this mess"
"i know" you said. "but you just have to let me go, let me do this, please"
"i understand. i hate it, but i understand" george nodded "you've given so much of yourself to this job, to us. if you need to find yourself, then... i can't hold you back."
you looked at him, your eyes filled with gratitude and sorrow. "thank you for understanding. this doesn't mean goodbye forever. i just need some time."
george nodded, sniffing back tears. "i know. i'll miss you every day, but i want you to be happy, even if it means being apart."
you both sat there in silence for a moment, holding each other as if it was the last time. it wasn't the ending either of you wanted, but it was the right one. sometimes, love meant letting go.
as you finally pulled away, george whispered, "i hope you find what you're looking for."
you nodded, your heart heavy yet hopeful. "me too"
the morning sun filtered through the curtains of lockwood & co's headquarters, casting long shadows across the room. the air was thick with an unspoken tension, a somber anticipation of what was to come. you stood in the entryway, your bags packed and your heart heavy. today was the day you would say goodbye.
lockwood, ever the stoic leader, was the first to approach you. he had known this day was coming, yet it didn't make it any easier. his usual confident demeanor was softened as he looked at you.
"y/n" he began, his voice steady but laced with emotion. "i know this isn't easy for you. or for any of us. but i respect your decision. you've been a crucial part of this team, we'll miss you dearly and you will always have a place here, if you decide to come back home"
you nodded, tears threatening to spill. "thank you, lockwood. this place, this team, has been my home for so long. but i need to find out who i am outside of it."
lockwood gave you a tight, supportive smile and pulled you into a firm hug. "just promise you'll stay in touch. and if you ever need us, for anything, you know where to find us."
next up was lucy, who had been like a sister to you. her eyes were red, and she didn't bother hiding her tears. "i can't believe you're really leaving," she said, her voice trembling. "i'm going to miss you so much."
you hugged her tightly, both of you clinging to each other. "i'll miss you too, lucy. more than you know. but this isn't goodbye forever. we'll see each other again, i promise."
lucy nodded, wiping her tears away. "you better keep that promise. and take care of yourself, okay? don't let the world get you down."
finally, it was george's turn. he stood a little apart from the others, his face a mixture of sadness and understanding. the conversation you had shared a few days before echoed in both your minds.
he stepped forward, taking your hands in his. "you know how much i'll miss you," he said quietly. "but i want you to be happy, to find what you're looking for."
you squeezed his hands, feeling the weight of your shared memories. "i know, george. thank you for being so understanding. i love you."
he pulled you into a hug, holding you tightly. "i love you too. always."
as you stepped back, you looked at each of them, your heart full of gratitude and sorrow. "thank you all for everything. you've been my family, and i'll never forget that."
with one last look around the room, you picked up your bags and walked to the door. as you reached for the handle, you paused, turning back to see your friends one last time. "goodbye," you whispered, your voice breaking.
you could hear the three of them snifling. "y/n" george called right before you were able to close the door. "it gets better" he assured you for one last time. the words filled with all the love and hope he wanted you to receive.
you nodded, smiling at him and then you left, hoping that he was right.
âshake it off
pairing: quill kipps x lockwood!reader
summary: quill and you play a prank on your brother and friends
warnings: none i think
words: 1k
âi donât think this is a good ideaâ you muttered, following after quill as you both made your way down the street. you looked down the street suspiciously, hand on your rapier, ready to fight if necessary.
it was already way past curfew which made his whole idea all the more stupid.
âyou said that about fifty times in the last few minutesâ he rolled his eyes âdonât worry, itâll be funâ
âyeah, at first!â you said aggravated âbut then all hell will break looseâ
âoh come on! isnât it worth it?â
âi donât think soâ you shrugged and quill came to a halt, turning around in your direction.
âwhat do you want me to say? or better, what do i have to tell you to make you do this, huh?â
âi donât knowâ your eyes found his blue ones âmaybe admit what a bad idea it actually isâ
he looked down at you with this look in his eyes that always worked. âthis is a terrible, horrible foolish ideaâ he muttered slowly, coming closer to you âletâs do it and see what happensâ he grinned.
you were still not really convinced, but you could never say no to him, especially when he leaned forward and plastered a lingering kiss on your lips.
âfineâ you groaned and quill laughed âbut you have to make it up to me laterâ
âdonât worryâ he smiled suggestively âi willâ
now that you had said yes to his (might say, utterly stupid) prank idea on lockwood, lucy and george, he outstretched his hand, taking yours and walking up the steps to the house. âmy lady?â he tapped his invisible hat, before he stepped to the side to make room in front of the door. you walked forward and took out your key to unlock the door. you walked inside followed by your boyfriend.
the prank itself wasnât even a bit thing in it self, but you knew lockwood would flip and so did quill. his plan was to pretty harmless in itself. break into the house and color the faces of the three while they were fast asleep. you knew that your brother would make you both regret everything the moment he would wake up, but you had to admit that just the thought about that was pretty funny.
âokay, hereâ quill had pulled out a few markers ânon-permanent markers for lucy and george. and one permanent for lockwoodâ your eyes widened.
âare you mental?â
quill just shrugged. âdonât worry, youâll do george and lucy and iâll take lockwood. iâm gonna tell him it was all meâ
âyou betterâ you pointed an accusing finger in his direction, before you took the markers out of his hand and walked up the stairs in the direction of georgeâs room.
you drew a mustache and another set of glasses onto georgeâs face. nothing too extreme, but it was still looking pretty funny.
you did the same with lucy, except that you drew a few tattoos instead of glasses.
you came down just a few minutes after that, waiting in the living room for quill to come back too.
âiâm finishedâ quill walked into the room smiling, before stepping next to you and kissing your neck.
âme tooâ you nodded and turned around, plastering a quick kiss on quillâs mouth.
you cuddled onto the sofa, quickly falling asleep holding each other.
you were wakened by a loud scream. you stumbled onto your feet and into the hallway, temporarily forgetting what you had done the night before, before your eyes fell on lucy and george that were standing in front of each other.
it looked like george had been the one who screamed.
âgeorge! hhat happened?â you asked, rushing to his side, feigning concern.
he turned to you, his face contorted in horror. âlook at my face!â
you glanced at him and had to bite back a laugh. the mustache and glasses you drew on him looked ridiculous, but you kept a straight face. âoh my goodness, george, what on earth happened?â
âi woke up like this!â he exclaimed, his voice rising in panic.
meanwhile, lucy burst into laughter, clutching her stomach. âoh, george! you look hilarious!â
lockwood, who had been woken by all the noise, came trudging down the stairs, but the anger in his eyes quickly evaporated, when he noticed both lucy and george's faces.
lucy turned her head and she only noticed now, that her face had been colored too, as lockwood pointed at it, still laughing.
her sour expression quickly turned into a smirk, when she noticed the words on lockwoods forehead, hidden behind his hair.
"wait" lucy exclaimed, before she stepped closer to the boy and drew the hair back with a quick gesture. "ohh" she laughed, when she could finally read the words.
lockwoods own laugh died out, quickly looking and yours and quill's direction, before darting to the closest mirror. "londons tiniest swordsman" he read and george and lucy broke into another fit of giggles simultaneously.
"i'm literally taller than you" your brother cried in betrayal, when he turned back around.
"i'm pretty sure quill wrote that" you said defensively, while you tried to no avail to hold back your marker. "and don't worry guys, it's not permanent"
"well, george and lucy won't have to worry about anything" quill laughed into his fist.
"what?" lockwood asked, his eyes quickly widening in horror.
george, lucy, quill and you sat in the kitchen, drinking the tea george had just prepared after him and lucy had easily washed off their facial decorations, while all of you sat and listened to lockwood cursing both you and quill while he tried to wash off the words on his forehead in the bathroom upstairs.
"well, we should definitely expect some kind of revenge" quill concluded, when lockwoods cursing stopped and loud steps echoed through the house.
"oh, you better" lockwood warned with a sarcastic grin, when he entered the kitchen. his hair was drenched and his forehead bright read from rubbing, with all the words still recognizable.
he pointed a warning finger in your direction, while he filled how water into his mug. "i let you date him and this is how you repay me, you, my own sister?"
"it wasn't my idea"
"well, i don't care" lockwood shrugged "my revenge will hit you just as hard as your boyfriend"
"i guess we have to go through that together" quill assured and you and the rest of the table started laughing at lockwoods angry grumbling.
