The Malaysian Institute for Advanced Magical Education rests on the bank of Chini Lake under the ever-watchful eye of Naga Seri Gumum, who often rests inside the school’s bubble of invisibility charms. Legends come alive as the sun sets, and when the lotus flowers bloom on the lakes, the institute is graced with a floating garden of long-gone whispers from a lost Khmer civilization folded into the petals of the blossoms. There is a belief that flowers grown in the school gardens are enchanted. Those who indulge in such fancies have taken to ravaging the gardens prior to a particularly big exam and bathing in the petals for good luck. Due to a wide number of outside influences, oral spells have transformed over time to reflect the hodgepodge of language that is spoken today, with particularly strong hints of Chinese and Indian magic infused with traditional spells derived from Malay.
