I've been in love with the comic book character Tintin since I was a child, I recently read and watched some episodes of the animated series.
He's one of the most entertaining investigators of fictional works I've ever seen

Please don't apologize! I love seeing someone find my stuff and like it enough to go thorough several pieces! I don't have much Mob AU art done atm, but here's my own reference pic for being so nice <3
In the Tintin in America comic he goes to America with the intention of writing a report (and fighting organized crime in Chicago), the police are useless and he has to do everything on his own.
In this AU Bobby Smiles manages to convince him to cooperate just once to take down the biggest threat (Al Capone) for the "greater good" since rival mobs are the only ones even remotely interested in getting him arrested. It works, but doesn't actually make the situation any better because Smiles just uses the ensuing power vacuum to take over instead.
Tintin realizes he got manipulated and decides to just leave America. Smiles points out that if his "pacifist solution" leaves the country he'll go back to having rivals gunned down instead of arrested. Tintin panics, realizing he can't in good conscience leave the monster he helped empower unchecked, so he stays, outing rival mobsters because it's that or let them go back to warring in the streets.
Three years later, the great depression has just begun but not gotten truly bad yet. It's obvious change is looming though, and the organized crime that's been relying on prohibition is about to go under.
By coincidence, Haddock's ship takes him to America where he goes to the only place he can get a drink (a speakeasy) and runs across a certain someone who's way too young to throw his life away with the mob.
