ok I can't be the only one who will go to the pool and then be like what am I doing here..... what am I supposed to do... and then I end up trying to see how long I can tread water and randomly dunking myself under the water bc what am I even doing if my hair dries out while I'm still in the water

and I've literally never been to the pool on my own so that's definitely not the problem but yeah this might have had some influence on me not going to the pool outside of literal family reuinions for the past 3 or 4 years well and i also worked at the pool one year so i felt awkward about it and then the year after that i kind of got brutally injured and was not really in a physical exercise for personal enjoyment kind of mood not to mention i had to wear bandaids over my scars outside for a while especially in the water anyways swimming pool swimming treading water

A merman with skin and hair the white of sand dollars and bone, and a tail and fins disappearing into the black of velvet and shadow, swims suspended over the bottom of a black, black pool. His eyes glow faintly green, and a stream of bubbles trails up from where he's holding his breath, so as not to breathe in the chlorine.

Arguably the best mer fic ever written. It's funny with good angst.
