Tree Law - Tumblr Posts

Reminder that trees are super important for not only lowering the heat index, but also for all creatures that use the trees for shelter!

Like Chipmunks, insects, birds, WGA, SAG-AFTRA, squirrels, certain lizards, frogs, and much more!

Make sure you prune them only when necessary!

TREE LAW TREE LAW TREE LAW

A tweet from LA City Controller Kenneth Mejía that reads: UPDATE: With cooperation from the Bureau of Street Services, we have found that no tree trimming permits have been issued over the last three years for this location outside Universal Studios. Also, the City did not issue any tree trimming permits for the latest tree trimmings. End of tweet. Down there's a picture of the street outside Universal Studios showing the illegally trimmed trees.

Quick shoutout to the good people at @UniversalPics for trimming the trees that gave our picket line shade right before a 90+ degree week. pic.twitter.com/aZvvPYQ23i

Whoever "trimmed" those trees may have just killed a bunch of trees on city property, that weren't theirs to trim. Get ready for a fine and sanctions.

— Steven Burke (@SteveBurke2000) July 17, 2023
It so needs to be looked into. If they’ve illegally butchered these trees, they will have to replace them. Hoping LA requires trees of similar age and size. I know it’s nothing to the studios. But still.

My city requires similar age and size. I'm sure LA requires it as well. The replacements are going to cost a small fortune.

Anyone got legal advice for someone who has construction workers breaking off entire giant branches off YOUR trees in YOUR backyard and then leaving it in MY yard??!

They keep adding more shit to my backyard and it’s getting upsetting because that is MY tree and I don’t think they even asked!

Wired In

Seeing the Tree Law posts regarding Universal Studios & the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike: someone ask Andrew Garfield to smash a laptop in front of executives. The amount of takes that occurred to get this shot ought to be worth the destruction of one more Apple device.

"Check The Math On That..."

With respect to The Social Network gif regarding Universal Studios, Tree Law, and the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike I posted, look once more at the scene where Mr. Garfield is smashing the laptop. Besides Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake, how many background actors do you see? The witnesses to this pivotal scene are there for a reason that enhances every single thing about the emotions on display.

I want human beings in those scenes, not AI. Do the math, pay the actors, and don't replace them with machines. Destroy the laptop not the people.

The people you don't see in films, the writers, the crew, and all the others who labor or work in industries nationwide to support our well-being and our daily lives? Pay them a living wage. They count.

Pruning those trees in July...

Pruning Those Trees In July...

and the Ents being unable to find Entwives because they were lost. One is a fictional story with so many truths about humanity. But the reality is tragic as well. Shame on the studio for cruelty against people and trees.

Chuck Dickens Has His Day In The Sun

It was the best of times...

Chuck Dickens Has His Day In The Sun

It was the worst of times...

Chuck Dickens Has His Day In The Sun

And somewhere on a sun-scorched L.A. sidewalk, I really hope there is a card carrying guild writer who is not suffering from heat stroke and manages to consider a modern day tale of two cities movies set amidst the strife and sorrow of modern day life and the class struggles and the gender struggles, and the race struggles that continue to exist. Wherein Chuck Dickens, producer, stepping outside in the scorching sun; runs across his old pal Carton. Carton, (whose nickname derives from his current state of homelessness), can barely recall what life was like before and during the year of the strike when the answers seemed so obvious and yet "it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness." While Dickens buys him lunch and they chat, and Carton thinks of one on his own: it was the age of conspicuous cruelty.

Is the tale I just constructed obscenely obvious (as to its origin) and didactic in its manner? Yep. But that's because I'm not the talent; the writers are. The artists are. Not the machines, but the humans. The ones who come up with the stories that make us laugh and cry and rage and wonder and most importantly: think, consider, imagine the possibilities.

I cannot imagine life without the tapestry of human experiences that continue to be woven as we speak. Pay the humans who help us discover perspectives, who help provide services and goods that improve our lives, and whose labor and efforts have value beyond numbers and machines. The choice to have done the better thing is sometimes made too late and the Age of Regret begins.

“We can’t find any work orders done for this particular tree trimming, which is problematic because in Southern California we have a lot of laws governing trees,” he said. “Normally, you don’t trim until October, and in fact, the exact same style and type of tree about 200 feet this way are not trimmed. But those aren’t providing shade to the picketers, are they?” [said]  Konstantine Anthony, a SAG-AFTRA member and the Democratic mayor of nearby Burbank.

Los Angeles City Council member Nithya Raman, whose district includes Universal City, said in a statement that no permits had been issued for tree trimming at the site. City Controller Kenneth Mejia said his office was investigating the issue.

First part of a Twitter thread by @SamAsIAm:
"A friend who is a municipal arborist just called to tell me about a guy who cut down 32 big mature trees on his neighbor's NJ property to get a better view of NYC. He hired a guy who hired another guy. Cut them down and left the debris there. The fine per tree is $1000 so the 1/

2/ guy propably thought he was going to just pay a $32k fine. But the arborist wrote violations to all 3 parties, 96 in all (by hand, took him 12 hours) and there's a provision requiring the replanting of like trees "of the same size." And it's on an inaccessible by road"
Continuation of Twitter thread by @SamAsIAm:
"3/ mountainside. He put the affronted landowner in touch with the only guy who would take on such a job. Thry have to build a road, remove the debris, plant big trees and water them for two years. He quoted $1.5 million. And additional fines total $400k. I hope whoever this ass

4/4 is he can't pay and they lien and sell his property, the value of which he probably figured would be increased so much a $32k fine was worth it, to cover the cost. We are living in the Jaime Dimon ethos. "So fine us, we can afford it.

4/5 The PS to this is I was just given a zoom link to the 1st court hearing tomorrow. I'm not sure if it's just for trail participants or spectators can use it, but if they let me observe I'll add more. It doesn't appear to have been picked up by any news source yet."
Quote Tweet by @ParSpec:
"Apparently NOBODY ELSE IN THE QUOTE TWEETS RESPECTS TRADITION ENOUGH TO POST THE TREE LAW COMIC"
A 1-page comic by u/reachling:
Panel 1: A saddenned person with short hair looking at a tree stump, their hands are holding the sides of their head. They're saying "Oh no! The rare cherry tree grandma brought with her from the old country! It's been chooped down!!" and then in another speech bubble "And only a week after the new neighbor complained about it blocking his view too!"

Panel 2: The young person turns around with a befuddled look on their face. A speech bubble from the bushes says "Tree law?"

Panel 3: A bald bearded lawyer with a suit and briefcase looks from behind a picket fence and says "Tree law?"

Panel 4: Another lawyer with shades pops their head from inside the bushes and says "Tree law?!"

Panel 5: Another lawyer crawls from under the stump with a briefcase and says "Tree law!!"

Panel 6: The four lawyers carry the young person above them. The person is looking confused. Two of the lawyers are holding pitchforks and torches. Around them are raining dollar bills. The lawyers are chanting "Tree! Law! Tree! Law!"

Truths that Co-Exist

Barbie (2023) is a giant product placement that profits off nostalgia.

The writing is profound and life-changing and understands why we seek nostalgia in a way most nostalgia-driven entertainment doesn’t.

The film is self-aware about how even now, Barbie dolls set incredibly unrealistic beauty standards. Their “body diversity” does not even scratch the surface of what that phrase really means. I don’t expect this to change.

The film still made a beautiful statement with the scene on the bench about how societal beauty standards are narrow and restrictive! And that beauty comes from experiencing life and the marks it leaves on you!

Its feminist statements are validating. Many of us see our reality onscreen, and the great thing is that it includes how cishet men fall down a pipeline of toxic hypermasculinity. It also shows the solution, and allows men to express themselves despite what society expects them to be.

The film is a capitalist venture.

The cast (aside from the leads) and crew were probably overworked and severely underpaid during filmmaking.

We can still appreciate that something fun was made, and we all made another wonderful memory where we and our loved ones went to the movies color-matching in pink.

We should not feel guilty about seeing ourselves in this film.

Meanwhile, support the WGA and SAG-Aftra strike.
