In honour of a new decade I say F U to beauty and weight standards, to filtered photos, to feeling self conscious, to constantly overanalysing what people might think when they see I’ve gained weight. I’ve been super skinny due to what I now recognise as an eating disorder and unattainable standards, and working out for three hours at a time to eat one meal... I’ve been at the weight I am now, higher but happier than ever. People put too much importance on body image and I’m a victim to all of it. Worrying about the thoughts of people that really don’t matter. Worrying about how people view me. Worrying about my self worth in relation to my weight. I now know that none of it matters. Weight, self image, other people’s opinions. It’s all superficial, it’s all BS. What REALLY matters is who you are as a person. #YOUAREBEAUTIFUL #2020LETSDOTHIS

I love writing songs because I love preserving memories, like putting a picture frame around a feeling you once had. I like to use nostalgia as inspiration when I’m writing songs for the same reason I like to take photographs. I like to be able to remember the extremely good and extremely bad times. I want to remember the colour of the sweater, the temperature of the air, the creak of the floorboards, the time on the clock when your heart was stolen or shattered or healed or claimed forever. I thrive on the challenge of sprinkling personal mementos and shreds of reality into a genre of music that is universally known for being, well, universal.
