Sera-Steeds

Sera steeds were wild animals made by the god Geiver, who were then partly domesticated by the Anemoian population that began to grow after Pinna took reign of the land. Over the years, credit of their creation have been moved to Pinna.

When they were made, they were called Plains Beast but after the Aeraki family cemented themselves as royalty they were renamed Sera steeds, as Queen Sera was known for riding on a bright ginger one. (Which was actually Pinna)

They are an ungulate and they come in many coats. (Think most horse colours) The top images of the different ages is their wild colors, and most common type. the single, running one is a blood bay. Males are slightly larger, with larger horns but otherwise there is no notable sexual dimorphism.  Their horns are pronghorn like, were they wont shed until one under it grows.

Baby sera steeds are called foals or pups and the term applies until they are a year old. They wean between 5-7 months. At a year old they are independent from their mothers.

Babies are always dark in color with a stark white tail, white ears and "eyes" on the back of their ears. Until they are 3 months old they have bright blue eyes that shift to yellow. Not long after they become independent from their mothers their eyes will darken to a deep brown. Rarely, their yellow eyes will stick.

As they age, they keep their ear spots. On almost all coats, they are counter-shaded with eyebrow markings and dark hooves.

Sera steed hide is very warm and water resistant. Its considered a waste of good fur if its not harvested after a Sera-steed dies. Generally, they live upwards of 40 years.

Sera-steeds are also known for their stubbornness and terrible attitudes. They are quite aggressive animals and reports of them goring their owners are extremely common. They are good animals for speed and agility unlike Gero drakes. They are kept for status as well. Royalty and other highly respected people will not keep drakes like Gero, instead keeping steeds as a way to show off their ability to handle their animals.

Rider-bands also ride Sera-steeds and are credited towards their slow domestication. They are the best steed to use in a fight against a problem drake as they are natural fighters with weapon like hooves and horns. They are the same size if not bigger then a lot of drakes and don't have a strong reaction to them with training.

Notably, they are also good guard animals. They are usually not great will strangers so they will make a fuss over a stranger on their property or a stranger animal. Farms where Peru drakes might not be enough will often have an old retired sera-steed on their property.

Tact: There is use of three straps: one around the chest, one behind the armpit, and one at the hip. They are flexible and can get tack off very easily so it must be secured properly. Their halters will usually have a strap that goes over and around their singlet horn, and will have a strap in front and behind the two horns. A normal horse harness is usually not enough but will do in a pinch or for pups.

Bareback riding a sera-steed is reserved for handlers who have a very strong bond with their steeds, and is considered very dangerous anyways because of how easy it is to fall off a running steed.

Oh i forgot to mention: Its good practice if the sera-steed is used for riding to braid their manes up and their tail. Especially so if used in combat against other people or against drakes.

They also really love water and will roll around very happily in puddles or go for swims in rivers even with their riders on their backs; much to many riders dismay and soaked clothes.
