Why Is This Movie Even Being Made - Tumblr Posts
Okay I have been whining about this for a hot minute but I'm gonna whine about it again on here because I'm genuinely getting pissed off about it.
Why the hell are we getting ANOTHER Karate Kid sequel?
Besides the fact that we have three sequels and an ass reboot that was made fourteen years ago... WE ALREADY HAVE A SEQUEL TO THE OG KARATE KID!!!! The beginning of the end of Cobra Kai is literally about to start in about over a month from now and they're making this sequel as a "return of the original Karate Kid franchise" (this is verbaitm how it was described), as if the eight-year running, six season, 65 episode series they have been doing wasn't doing just that.
Another fun little nugget I found out while doing obsessive extensive research about this little wannabe CK film is that this film has no ties or connections to CK as of right now. Some of the actors from CK didn't even know that there was another Karate Kid movie coming out, and none of the characters from there or the old series are coming back. It's only Daniel and Jackie Chan's character from the reboot???
Jackie Chan???
If this is a "true" direct sequel to the og four TKK films, despite CK already holding that title and the reboot prior to this not being in the universe, y'all know what this means right?
They just retconned the existence of Cobra Kai. That means all of the character development for Daniel, Johnny, the og Cobra Kai guys, Silver, Kreese, Chozen, Ali, etc, as well as the existence of the new gen kids are not canon. Miguel, Robby, Tory, Sam and Anthony (Daniel's goddamn KIDS) are not canon and don't exist in the universe anymore.
This pisses me all the way off. And they pushed back the film until next year because they don't wanna interfere with the CK release. Why does that matter if the show isn't in the universe anymore anyway. PLUS, if you had released the film around the same time, more people would've gone to the theater.
Like what is this movie? Who is it for? Sony's only doing this because CK did well for TKK IP and they want more money. I feel like the 2025 film would've been better off if they had just made it a sequel to the 2010 reboot, which they were gonna do but scrapped it because Chan didn't like the script.
This is also just a lot more work for Macchio because what do you mean I gotta play two versions of my most popular character but they're not in the same universe?
