Beyond this, consider how these professions might vary depending on who the customers are - nobles, or lower class. Are they good at their job or just scraping by? Do they work with lots of other people or on their own? City or village?

For younger characters:

Apprentice to any of the above

Messenger/runner

Page/squire

Pickpocket

Shop assistant

Student

For the wip challenge: I wish I could just ask for every wip in your post but I guess it will be too long 🙈 so I start with these two lovelies 😌

Korean Myths & Destination Seoul

HELLOOOO <3 thank you @orphicpoieses for the ask!

ahhh you can ask anything you want! just letting you know that 12:01 has already been answered in my previous posts hehe.

ooh, destination seoul. the project that has my heart and also the project that drives me insane. basically, it's: a fake dating ya romance set in Seoul, Korea where a teen tries to escape the blind dates her chaotic family sets her up on for her aunt's wedding. mostly it touches upon going back to your roots and really accepting it, as i've seen (and felt personally) more of a trend where as people are pulled between two cultures, they struggle to choose both, and think that they can only choose one. I just hope it represents the idea that it's not too late to accept your culture, and you don't need to live in a place to accept your family's origins!

anyways. onto the korean myths because this is still in the work and an interesting one. the premise is still in the works, but it's based on the tale of the abandoned princess in one of the folklore there, and possibly with a mix of beauty and the beast.

an abandoned princess sets out to find the cure of a disease plaguing the kingdom while it is on the brink of rebellion in order to prove her family's worth and save her father from treason. the cure: a dragon's pearl, except the owner of the pearl - the exiled prince - is cursed to turn into an imoogi, a beast of war and destruction. one desperate to save her family, and the other desperate to prove his worth, they set off to the depths of hell to truly find the plague's origins, and who caused it.

and that's kind of what i have for now? i'm still plotting act 1, but there's definitely all kinds of mythical creatures (gumiho, dragons, etc.) and betrayals and themes of worth and found family woven in!

CAN WE. CAN WE JUST TALK ABOUT THE IMAGERY HERE PLEASE. LIKE THE OPENING. THE BADASS CHARACTERS.

anyways. thank you @thetruearchmagos for the tag!

also from a new wip that i've started outlining, and just wrote this little snippet for the opening scene:

Every part of me revolts against this marriage, like snakes slithering up my skin, but I know I can’t continue to be in this place of ambivalence, like the waves, coming back and forth. Whenever I see my father’s face—the one that I know now doesn’t resemble me at all—do I see the choice I must make: my past, which I have no attachment to, or my future. And so, I walk around with this pendant the weight of a mountain, clinging onto the hope that it will be sold.

The following is from a new WIP I've started off, "The Commonwealth Calls". Still so new that there's still not much there, but I look forward to getting more for it!

Steel Clad Coffin

On all sides, smoke plumes against stormy skies shrouded the land in a darkness only lit by the fires of burning machinery and rubble, the only trophies of this most sudden war. Under the sleet grey sky, thunder and lightning were drowned out by the rumbling booms of far off howitzers and the crashes of their sent-off greetings, the cracks of rifle fire finding home, and above all the growls of the great machines that sallied forth into battle. A pair of such machines, two ACV-612 Chariots, glided and sailed across the open road that cut through the wide plains and open farmland, bearing down on a wide hill at 65km/h. Drawing closer, Major Hilda Goyan, her armtrack in the lead, finally crested the ridge before her. Out in the lowlands before her, peering through the turret mounted periscope with its streaks of rain, she could see the rest of A Company, 4th Liichtu Hussars lined up in their own armtracks, ready to move up with their commander's arrival. She flipped on the Company radio, and sounded off. Alright, folks, let's get moving

Welcomes for anyone, and I'll tag @moonscribbler , @athenswrites , @mj-is-writing , @sanguine-arena , @moonlitinks

plotting day 25 (or something along those lines, maybe longer)

We live in the same four walls, in the same courtyard, in the same pagoda. And yet, we couldn’t be more far away, like when there was a vast ocean between us. There is no glue to reunite my family together—only determination and desperation.

everything and nothing makes sense.

*rings doorbell* Trick or treat! (@writingbyricochet)

@writingbyricochet here's a treat! lately, i've been working on the origin story of bari/the memories she has of colonization when she's younger (will there even be colonization in this novel i don't even know anymore) but here's a small snippet:

“Get down and submit to the new king.”

I remember the confusion on the villagers’ faces. The murmured whispers among one another. The linked fingers. The wariness.

Then the men in front of us sheathed their swords.

The kill happened in an instant. In a second, the blade drove through our village leader. Blood gurgled out of his mouth, a choked scream ringing through the air. No one even dared to gasp, women slapping their hands over their children who began to cry.

We all took a collective step back as the corpse—now reduced to an entity—fell on his knees, head banging against the ground. Sand fluttered through the air and created a misted wall—one that wouldn’t be strong enough to stop these soldiers.

“Kneel.”

The death’s effects lasted for weeks.

The first: our name changed into something more fitting, essentially cutting our ties with our past selves.

The second: our language changed. We could no longer communicate the way we used to.

The third: we had a collective understanding that we were being oppressed, but nobody commented on it.

As far as the rest of the world knew, we enjoyed colonization.

The irony.

Trick 👻 or Treat 🍬!

Trick 👻 or Treat 🍬!

treat 🍬! here's a small worldbuilding fact:

in bari's kingdom, the poor can't bury the dead. having the right to bury someone's bones and building them a grave that maintains a connection between the deceased and their family is only a privilege for the rich.

thanks for the ask xx

Trick or treat! 🎃

treat! 🎃

the current wip i'm working on features gumiho's, or nine-tailed foxes. they're essentially shape-shifting creatures (foxes) that need to eat the liver of 1000 people in order to become immortal.

they do so by passing a bead and gaining your energy when kissing you, which they can because they have this allure that makes you fall under their spell. but if a human obtains this bead, they can have the knowledge of the world, and of all living things.

thanks for the ask! xx

hello! not sure if it's late in where u are but trick or treat!! 🎃🍬

it's not late! (but i'm definitely answering late, ahhh sorry haha).

here's a concept thought for my latest mythology/folklore wip for my main character as a treat:

like being haunted by the ghosts of my history that i've neglected, like accepting discrimination as a rite of passage, like believing that to survive, you must assimilate and stay silent.

trick or treat! 🎃

treat! 🎃 sorry for the late response, but here is a short, one-line snippet from my latest wip:

it is forgetting your identity and then having such a sense of loss that you can't move on.
