The first would be the vastness of all I want to give, I find myself empty however when I offer something from within.

“Where…Where am I? Who are you people?” he said shakily, clutching the knife to his chest. 

Ariel held her bat up, not wanting to be caught off guard. “You don’t remember?”

He shook his head. “I was on my way home, and then I heard a woman’s voice. She said that if I didn’t kill Solana, she would make me kill my girlfriend,” he said, “I said that I didn’t know who Solana was, and that’s the last thing I remember.”

“So you don’t remember trying to stab me?” Solana added, shakily rising to her feet. 

He dropped the knife. “Stab you? Why would I do that?”

Revenge as part of your identity, part of your soul, isn’t all one thing. Sometimes it’s personal, the way it is with me. I’ve been fucked up by plenty of people but I can see down to the root of it and that’s all that matters. I’m not going to heal from generalised destruction. I might not be going to heal from very specific destruction either, but that’s all I want. It’s all I need. It hasn’t directed my choices or made my decisions for me, but it’s unfinished business and now that I have an opportunity to finish it, I’m not going to waste that.

GLASS

Agent Kartheiser stays where she is. She leans on the rail that runs the length of the glass-walled corridor and stares out over the city. As I walk away, I’m sure I hear her sigh.

TEETH

Vee pulls a chair over and sits opposite me. “You look fucked, baby girl.” “Rough night. Sweet haul though. Got some bonus cargo.” “How come?” She hooks the top off a beer bottle with her teeth for herself and throws me an energy drink from the mini fridge under her desk.

RED

When I walk past the uniforms, one of them shouts something at me about what am I doing after work and his friend laughs like puke hitting the floor. I’m not getting into any fights on Taf’s time, so I tune out his bullshit and meet a stocky, red-faced woman at the exit.

SKY

So we sit side by side, staring at the cell array on the table, saying nothing and trying to solve the unsolvable problem as the sky outside darkens and the glow of streetlights turns the windows a cold green-blue.
