Yoon Jongwoo - Tumblr Posts
Honestly episode 6 from Strangers from Hell is so funny because it's basically everyone in the studio going 'dude we fucking hate room 303 let's kill him' and Moonjo going 'why are u guys so mean to him ๐ฅบ' meanwhile Jongwoo is litteraly screaming in people's faces
i remembered that i can use tumblr to make gifs so here we are
Can't believe that Jongwoo just didn't suspect Mrs. Eom for so long. Like. He litteraly thinks, at some point, "did she put something in my drink?" and then goes on without really thinking that she's part of the murderous group. Personally I'm convinced that Jongwoo is more reluctant to suspect people who call him pretty or handsome, considering how long it takes him before he actually realizes that Moonjo isn't just an overly friendly neighbour ๐
Jongwoo's novel leaves me so confused. What is it even about. Sure, he says it's about a pianist who kills people, but then what? Also how does he justify the full pages with just "die" written on it (or does he take them out)? Why is a guy carrying a grocery bag up an alley in his story? No wonder Moonjo asked to hang out again to talk about the novel, I would too, because Jongwoo litteraly gave one information about his novel and then didn't add anything ever
Jongwoo's whole behaviour changing when he's happy or feels comfortable (which happens like, twice in the whole show) is so sweet
One thing I never noticed before is I thought Moonjo was just pinching Jongwoo's Adam apple -which sounds kind of very painful- but no no no, I was wrong
He is stroking the damn thing

Rewatching Psychopath Diary and Strangers from Hell really makes me wonder if someone was working on both sets at the same time because the amount of things in common...
A. GENERAL STUFF
1- both came out in 2019
2- contain a song by The Rose (or its lead singer, Kim Woo-sung)
3- similar themes (murderers) (although that's about 99% of k-dramas)
B. YOON JONGWOO AND YOOK DONGSIK
1- both writers
2- work an office job
3- annoying coworker/sort of friend called Jae-ho
4- their superior hate them
5- fantasize about murder (like, a lot)
6- (threaten to) beat up one of their colleagues with weird objects
7- one parent that works in the food industry, the other that is nowhere to be seen
8- speak to their evil reflection in the mirror
9- no one takes them seriously
10- keep being dragged into work dinners
11- interest in 'dark' media (crime/horror)
12- one of their neighbour decided to befriend them even after they acted very weirdly
C. SEO MOONJO AND SEO INWOO
1- look very polite and nice to most people
2- same family name!
3- odd relationship to their parental figure (they want to kill them)
4- like to collect things from their victims!
5- really really want to convince a random guy to commit murder
6- tactics to convince someone to commit murder includes saying vague stuff like 'we're so alike'
7- please refer to this post for more details
D- SO JUNGHWA AND SHIM BOKYUNG
1- cops. That one's pretty simple
2- dad was also a cop (and a famous one)
3- only cop to do any work whatsoever in the whole city
4- on more or less good terms with both the actual serial killer (moonjo/inwoo) and the wannabe serial killer (jongwoo/dongsik)
5- gets kidnapped by one of the killers at some point
6- work based on their instincts
Thank you to @softneomiro for pointing out some resemblances I hadn't seen before!
Jongwoo and Room 313's beef truly unparalleled. Jongwoo's neighbour feeds him weird meat but he hates the guy who watches porn more. Jongwoo's neighbour pushes him to murder but he hates the guy who burps more. Jongwoo's neighbour stalks him but he hates the guy who says 'I'll kill you' occasionally and then doesn't kill him more. To be honest if I was Moonjo I'd be so offended, even Jongwoo's first mirror hallucination is Room 313 telling him to kill his coworker, like all Room 313 had to do was stand in the corridor and say 'I'll kill you' and watch porn at weird hours and that made Jongwoo want to kill him so much he tried to attack him first rather than Moonjo
Just noticed that the first time Jongwoo visualizes the scene of him beating up Officer Jo, we get a shot of him in his military uniform looking as an outsider, so it looks like he has nothing to do with it
Video description: Jongwoo watching two men fight, one punching the other that is down, before getting a flashback where he's back in the army, watching two men fight
Then in one of his dreams sequences he's again watching another soldier beat up someone else, but this time he acknowledges that the soldier is him
And then after beating up the teenagers we see him as a single person rather than a double version, beating up Officer Jo
Moonjo keeps asking people what Jongwoo's opinion on Eden is like Jongwoo is the damn health inspector
Like his conversations with Jieun and Seokyoon are basically 'how does Jongwoo feel about this place?' and establishing Jongwoo's connection to them both. At least mention something that isn't Jongwoo or the residence? Is he even able to do that?
Moonjo and Jongwoo are so funny about eye contact because Jongwoo WILL NOT make eye contact for more than 5 seconds. Do NOT look him in the eyes, do not look in his direction, look everywhere else. Meanwhile Moonjo will not blink. Moonjo will not look away. Moonjo is a man with a purpose and that purpose is having Jongwoo in his field of vision 24/7.
Also: I may be wrong but Jongwoo's eyes stop moving around and focus a lot more towards the last episodes (which makes sense considering he's realized that Moonjo's a mega creep and if he isn't keeping an eye on him then who knows what he'll do)
Moonjo mentally exploding Seokyoon for like 2 minutes
They get along so great
Behold, the queers.
I was curious about how long it actually takes Moonjo to fully turn Jongwoo into a killer, so here is the timeline (here we consider that the day starts when the sun is up) + quick summary of each day:
Episode 1: monday
Jongwoo starts living in Eden studio.
Episode 2-3: tuesday
Jongwoo's first day at work. First conversation with Moonjo.
Episode 3-4: wednesday
Suspicious trash bags and suspicious meat.
Episode 4-5: thursday
Moonjo starts appearing in random places and tells Jongwoo he's not like other girls (because he can do whatever he wants).
Episode 5-6: friday
Jongwoo gets drunk and Jieun goes into the studio. Moonjo gets told he's the creepiest person in the studio.
Episode 6-7: saturday
Jongwoo looks for another place to live, and argues with Jieun. There's a new neighbour and one of the twins goes to heaven early.
Episode 7: sunday
Jongwoo and Seokyoon become bffs. Moonjo gives a speech about how it's ok to kill people.
Episode 7-8: monday (2)
Jongwoo starts beating up keyboards and teenagers. Moonjo is very obviously not a good person.
Episode 8-9: tuesday (2)
Jongwoo starts beating up colleagues. His boss and Jieun think there's something wrong with him. Moonjo gets rid of the boss.
Episode 9-10: wednesday (2)
Jongwoo goes to a funeral, meets up with an old friend, and goes on a murderous rampage.
Episode 10: thursday (2)
Jongwoo is taken to the hospital.
So in total Jongwoo will have been at the studio for 10-11 days, and goes to work 6 of those days. Moonjo had 9 days to encourage his violence. It took Jongwoo 8 days since he began living in the studio to start beating up people.
In conclusion, Moonjo was really speedrunning this.
I always wonder whether Moonjo wanted to find a replacement for his failed 'masterpiece' and picked the first guy he found, or if it was speaking to Jongwoo that made him go like 'well it's time for a quick corruption arc' instead of just killing him
I do prefer the second option especially when looking at Moonjo's expression while and after Jongwoo tells him about his murderous pianist OC's preferred method of killing
bonus
One thing I really love but that really kills me about the murderous rampage sequence is that I have litteraly so many questions about it that will go unanswered. Like I get that's the whole point but where was Mrs. Eom while the boys massacred Jongwoo and his friend? Was Moonjo just cheering in the background while Jongwoo got rid of the other residents? Where were the others while Jongwoo killed them one by one, like were Mrs. Eom and the twin just taking a nap before getting killed? I like to imagine that during each murder, the people that aren't getting killed are in a room playing red light green light or something
Strangers from Hell doodles
Just started the Hell is Other People webtoon and I'm so happy to see that Jongwoo is so expressive no matter if it's in a tv show or webtoon
