misadventures of a queer disabled DID system

No, there are not 69 of us but we are hiding in a trenchcoat.. medically recognised adult DID system studying to become a clinical psych. We are aware we make mistakes, we know we make mistakes, we're open to kind discussion!!!! 🇳🇿🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Please remember, there is a person behind almost every post on the internet, including syscourse. Be kind.

Yea Mood, Even In Our Part Of The Country (same Country), We Don't Know Any DID Systems

yea mood, even in our part of the country (same country), we don't know any DID systems 🥲

and certainly not any DID systems over the age of 17/18 lol (there's v young teens we know who claim to have DID but most of them only know about it from TikTok 🥴

It would be nice to meet other people who live with DID Irl. We however have only met one other who has (recognized) DID. And that is the Guardians. But due to their, seemingly aggressive, pro endo stance we do not talk anymore.

A small support group would even be nice, just to relate to others in a space where you don't feel so alone.

But alas, this is a small city in New Zealand. That shit will never happen, especially not with this fucked government.

"bluntly honest" autism but in the sense that i absolutely cannot refrain from complimenting strangers if i like their earrings or their shirt or i think they have a friendly-sounding laugh or i think their art is beautiful or i think the fic they wrote portrays the characters so well. "bluntly honest" doesn't have to mean "mean". i love to tell people things that are kind and also true.

the amount of frustration i have reading through the DID, OSDD and traumagenic tags, is about the same as i feel from the endogenic tags... everyone is spreading misinformation, so... please, traumagen/anti-endo systems stop saying that it's just endogenic systems who have an issue??? the amount of psychologically inaccurate statements being claimed as fact, just because they're being posted by traumagenic systems is insane.

new sysource stance: Everyone Is Wrong [ftr, this is a joke]

awh fuck

okay nvm then

okay, OKAY I HAVE BEEN DOING RESEARCH, MORE RESEARCH courtesy of a bunch of papers, podcasts and personal experiences collated by @the-alarm-system (thanks y'all it's been super interesting, and I haven't finished the document yet)

and I came across something that has got my head reeling. "DID is not branded by its negative symptoms, like most disorders are. Rather, this definition suggests that the problem starts and ends with the plurality. The definition of a mental disorder is a set of behaviors that causes harm or dysfunction  4. A violation of a norm, on the other hand, should not be the basis for a diagnosis. In the medical literature, DID seems to be an exception to this rule. Until the DSM-V, there was no requirement of distress or impaired functioning in the diagnosis of DID. “Unlike other disorders, dissociative identity is deemed a disorder and thereby dysfunctional, purely on the basis that those who experience it have a self that is not singular." ”

[this research was completed using opt-in surveys and interviews on popular tupla pages]

DSM-V criteria for DID

DSM-IV criteria for DID

THEY'RE RIGHT. HOW MANY NON-DISORDERED SYSTEMS WERE DIAGNOSED WITH DID/MPD PRIOR TO THIS CHANGE-????

the DSM-IV does specify that there is a prevalence of early childhood trauma in DID presentations, but they did not say it was a requirement for diagnosis - though some of that is that they Cannot Prove it... but omg this is sooo interesting and u get all my thoughts on it

also fun fact, according to the DSM-IV, DID Specific Culture, Age, and Gender Features: "Females tend to have more identities than do males, averaging 15 or more, whereas males average approximately 8 identities." so to all my afab system friends, have fun with your 15+ alters! :DDD

I'm not the intended audience...but my 11 year old self is WEEPING at the Minecraft movie trailer.
