“How do you live like that?” you asked incredulously. “I start freaking out when mine’s on seventy.”

Nat shrugs indifferently. “I like living close to the edge. I’m all about the danger zone.”

“Will you two stop! No fucking in my back seat!” You and Zachary couldn’t help but laugh loudly. It was a magical night, with many more to come, Zachary promised you. 

As much as you wished this moment could last forever the internal dread of having to go back to the compound crept in. You were afraid of running into Bucky again. What if he’s waiting in your room for you. Did you even remember to lock your door? You should probably start locking your door from now on. Are the others back yet? Steve never texted you saying when he would be back. How are you going to tell him about Bucky? Should you tell him about Bucky? How are you gonna-

“Hey, you alright?” Zachary held your hand as Gwen pulled up to the compound. 

“Yeah, I’m fine. I’m just upset that I’ll be leaving you.” You fake pouted before kissing Zachary on the cheek. 

“Ew, you guys are both gross.” Gwen couldn’t keep her comments to herself. You chuckled as you exited the car.

“So just take one pill everyday right after dinner and you should be good. It might take a while to see the effects but they are there.” The doctor at the compound was explaining to you how birth control worked. 

“Thanks doc!” You hopped off the table and made your way out of the doors of the medical wing. 

It’s been days since the kitchen incident with Bucky and you’ve been trying your best to avoid him in any way possible. Thanks to F.R.I.D.A.Y., the A.I. has been updating you on any of the teams whereabouts. If the kitchen was empty you’d hurry and grab whatever food you could and ran to eat it in your room. Natasha grew more and more concerned after she coaxed you out of your room that day. She thought that you were just taking Steve’s leave hard but that was a ridiculous way to act considering you’ve been without him multiple times on missions. No, there was something else bothering you. Natasha tried to ask Sam and Bucky if they knew, but both men shook their heads and assured her they knew nothing about your change in behavior.

Hurrying back to your room as fast as possible you felt a force swoop you off your feet and brought you to an abrupt stop.
