everything about thalia and jason is so tragic to me. jason, a little kid, a sacrifice to the gods by a maniac of a mother. thalia, the big sister that watches her little brother given away to death or worse. she wanders the ruins, too small and too little to be so scared, and sobs until she falls down. he’s not there. he’s not there.

she grows up rebelling against her mother until she dies, she changes her style and changes herself, cuts her hair and does her make up all fucked up. she finds luke and annabeth and adopts herself into a new family, one that she’s willing to sacrifice herself for, because god, she couldn’t do it for her little brother. she needs this redemption. annabeth is seven, and luke is the assurance that she never had when she grew up

she wakes up disoriented. there were dreams, and the same boy with green eyes is there, holding her, shaking her, yelling and demanding. she gets better, she grows tougher and stronger and she can fight properly, and then she learns that luke poisoned her.

thalia is never allowed to love in the same way annabeth is, or percy, or grover. thalia comes from a monument of grief and the king of the gods.

anyway I think Will Solace doesn't say "I love you". I think the whole concept of falling in love freaks him out because he inherited Apollo's predisposition for tragic love and he grew up watching Naomi navigate single motherhood, leaving him generally disenchanted with the idea. I wish we could see more of that in contrast with Nico, who grows very attached to people very quickly and is a very loving person despite how often he's been hurt.
