I So Often Think About The Utter Lack Of Innovation In Tamriel And Then I Remember. Every Game Shit Happens
i so often think about the utter lack of innovation in tamriel and then i remember. every game Shit Happens and it's so goddamn world ending and terrifying (um hello? ancient dragon god is coming to eat the world?) that like yeah after surviving that i'd just be happy with my wagons and horses and crops and 50yrs of life expectancy.
i saw a post the other day that was like “you’re telling me it’s been 200 years since oblivion and nobody has invented anything new? in real life we went from horses to cars in 200 years!” and to be totally fair to that person they were 100% correct and that is an oversight but to be fair to the people of nirn i think if actual hell opened up and blew up like half of the major cities on earth that would probably stall innovation here too. like just to give them some credit they did experience a world-ending catastrophe and i don’t know how many of us could see the sky crack open and flood out a bunch of actual satans and then have like. joe biden turn into a dragon and fight satan and then still be like, “so anyway, automobiles.”

I was not expecting The Three Musketeers to be so comedic.

Let's talk about Smoker's weapon of choice.
I don't see this talked about much, but Smoker's choice in weapon (a MASSIVELY OVERSIZED jitte tipped with sea prism stone) is SUCH a statement.

Consider the history of the weapon in Edo-period Japan. It was a crime to carry a bladed weapon, so guardians of the shogun's palace turned to the jitte to arm themselves. A jitte became a symbol of honor and carried the weight of an official badge. Knowing Oda, Smoker didn't arm himself with a weapon bearing that kind of history accidentally. It's an integral piece of his design that reveals the nature of his character.
But what I find even more noteworthy (and decidedly more impressive, not to mention funny) is that Smoker's weapon of choice weaponizes his own Achille's heel as a Devil Fruit eater. That tip of sea stone could easily be turned against him should someone overpower him and take control of his weapon. The fact that Smoker doesn't give a shit and fights with it anyway tells us a lot about him, namely that he's so fucking confident in his abilities that he doesn't think anyone will be able to take his weapon away.
Long story short, no matter how strong you think Smoker actually is, Smoker's weapon of choice tells us he has enormous fucking brass balls, and really I love that about him. 🧡
(update quick google search says i probably listened to what is actually the 1994 concept album? but my invite for recommendations still stands!)
i just listened to the entire jekyll & hyde 1995 musical on spotify and like...i'm obsessed. one of the best things i've ever listened to?? like EVERY SONG? THE CONFRONTATION?? the lyric writing is insane, the score, the SAME dude singing jekyll and hyde but sounding completely different...i'm mindblown
i own the book and have planned to read since forever (esp after listening to this omg) and was wondering if people know of any good movie/show adaptations (musical or otherwise) of jekyll & hyde? and GOD DID THEY EVER RECORD THE CAST ON STAGE??? I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW COOL THIS IS ON STAGE
