Reminders of the fact we are biological creatures can make people uncomfortable, as if it makes us less real and our choices less genuine, but I think we can chose to embrace it, too. The way music will increase our sadness at something. The way early mornings in spring make you feel everything will be okay, despite logic. The warmth and peace we feel when being hugged. We’re biological, and that’s okay. It’s beautiful that we’re the result of billions of years of change. I still believe we’re more than our bodies, more than biology. But we can embrace both. We are infinitely complex.
I’m sorry but I can’t believe that a species who invented funerals and cemeteries for our dead, and who has millions of people and places dedicated specifically to keep other species’ safe is fundamentally, irreversibly evil
everything everywhere all at once is about intergenerational trauma. about depression and passive suicidality and the gravitational appeal of nothingness. about aging, getting older in your twenties and getting older in your fifties. about the specific hurt mothers can cause their daughters and daughters their mothers. about the harsh reality of the immigrant experience and the american dream. but it’s mostly about kindness and family and it’s about choosing to sit at home talking about taxes with someone who loves you, and it’s about telling your daughter that you’d choose her over the entire universe, and it’s about how even in the universes where life didn’t form, love can still exist. and it’s really all of that at once.
Oscar Wilde saying death must be so beautiful, “to forget time, to forgive life,” might be so macabre but to me it makes me want to live. That validation of yes, life is something that must be forgiven, but there’s time for that. For now, just live, live and give it all you got. The time for rest will come eventually, and you have infinity for that.
