Hot take: Surrealism (as an artistic movement) is a predecessor for traumacore. Hear me out. Since people were existing in a post-WWI society and like dealing with shingles and shell shock and other post-war stuff, they obviously used surrealism as a means to express that and have that dreamlike appeal. And now... what is traumacore except a means to discuss trauma in a vague way that appeals to the same dreamlike sense. And yes a similar argument can be made for weirdcore, except that weirdcore is made explicitly to make the viewer feel uncomfortable not for the artist to deal with trauma. Idk what I'm talking about, but I like typing the word surrealism and it makes me feel like a big boy.
