OK episode 7 and i just realized it's taika waititi and now i completely unconditionally love him "my teeth keep falling out is that normal" also why is he dutch like i appreciate the diversity but out of all the things to pick from? Okay I really enjoyed that episode.
I find it kind of funny people still don’t think All for One had a tragic backstory cause, well, he did.
I get it, though. People believe that if a character has a tragic backstory, you’re supposed to feel sympathy for THE character or that the backstory excuses that character’s actions.
It doesn’t.
All for One’s backstory IS tragic because of what All for One COULD have been.
That’s the point. Even Yoichi states it.
AFO had the greatest Quirk of all time. He could have done so much good with it, but that didn’t happen.
This was because of multiple factors:
-Born with only each other in the gutter.
-Quirk activated in the womb. His urges already manifested. The “arrogance” and believing “everything belonged to him”.
-No parental figures at all
-A tumultuous time when society was collapsing
-Hunted and looked down upon as less than human if anyone looked at them at all.
-Living in the slums
-Having to scrap, steal, and kill to survive. To eat.
-Having the first escape from all this terribleness be ratty comic books
-Having no goal, no purpose, until the comic books. Until Yoichi decided on his.
-Comic books set in a world of black & white morality. Confusing them into believing this is reality.
There’s more, but this is a quick list.
ALL of that is why All for One ended up the way he is.
Others state in the epilogue that the state of society after the war is like it was when Quirks first manifested. That it’s the same kind of world that CREATED All for One.
Yoichi says he couldn’t steer his brother down the right path, but that alone means there WERE paths.
But everything was set up perfectly to create a monster.
It IS tragic. Tragic because of what could have been.
The monotone voice in the cavern echoed, putting Tessa on edge. She put down the bone fragments and ran her hands over her hair to self soothe, her internal compressor kicked on, making her inhale and exhale rapidly. "I-It's just your imagination... Tessie, it's just... It's just your imagination," After quelling her anxiety, she resumed picking back up the fragments she dropped. "Criiiiikey...." she whispered to herself. She turned around at the sound of shuffling in the asbestos-laced snow. Her blue-ish grey LED eyes went into ring light mode as she scuttled back screaming in shock.
(Starter for xXRoboTessaXx) The incomplete-disassembly drone's blue dress fluttered in the wind outside the cavern. She headed down to where J's landing pod was before they moved. The ebony haired robot girl knelt down in the snow, humming a song to herself as she picked up bone fragments. She soothed to herself outloud, "I shouldn't have made J bury those bones, they meant a lot to her... but... I wanted to let go of then." She continued to hum Eternal Dream to herself, thinking about the cute silver-haired disassembly drone who would be waiting for her back home with a tea cup full of cinnamon-scented oil.
Cyn at least attempted to make sure she was alone, not being followed by 'over-looming' drones. Making her way to the landing pod's cavern as well. Standing at the entrance, made her digital heart feel like it skipped a beat as the anxiety washed over her. What little remained of Tessa... The only human who ever cared about her was there. She slowly shuffled further in and began digging around in the asbestos to search for whatever remained of them. "C-Come on. There should be, at least something." Her voice glitched a bit as she dug around a tad more aggressively.
Her head turned, spotting another ....Drone...? It couldn't have been a worker drone out here by this point... She squinted her eyes to try and get the visor to focus on whoever was in the distance. "Harsh squint."
