From "Reach Out (The Moon Looks Strange Tonight)", sessrin fanfic on ao3 “Sota-papa and Moe-mama were not very happy though, they said I should act more girlish and leave the fighting behind, not jump in every brawl in front of me.” Towa wore a frown her mother really didn’t like. “You probably feel the same way” her cheeks warmed into a blush, and now it was Rin’s turn to frown, although in confusion. “Why?” “Well...Rin-mama, you’re so elegant and feminine, and granny Kaede told me you owned a large collection of kimono and jewelry... Sesshomaru too, his clothes look so expensive, you’re like royalty!” Towa scratched her head with one finger, embarrassed. “I tried to act more feminine but…” Rin snorted out loud, then exploded in a piercing laughter, startling the half-demon who jumped in shock and gawked at her mother, surprised by the unexpected reaction. Belly hurting from how much she was laughing, Rin quickly wiped away the stinging tears that filled her eyes. “Oh, Towa! You couldn’t be farthest from the truth! I'm just very polite!” still smiling, she got up from the chair, yelping as it rolled a few steps behind, and Rin steadied herself for a moment before reaching for her daughter’s hands, gently pulling her in a silent invitation to sit

As I read this post, my mind right away went to this one-shot story.

Blessed be all the authors on ao3 who did and still do such a crazy work to fill the holes left by Yashahime, which is even too much kind a thing to say, given that Yashahime is a huge pointless hole in itself.

Oh this got me thinking….

I cannot WAIT for Towa to meet Sesshomaru and Rin. Beautiful Sesshomaru, with his flowered robes and long, silky hair. Sesshomaru with his natural eye-makeup and face markings and long nails. Sesshomaru who is completely sexy fabulous with his fur thrown over his shoulder but who is also a fierce, manly warrior is not going to give one damn about gender roles.

Rin, who grew up as a complete outcast, who for much of her young life said to hell with living like a regular human, who if she is indeed the mother (she is), clearly gave up life in Kaede’s village and bucked all expectations for a human peasant girl by marrying and bearing the children of a powerful yokai, do you think she cares if her daughter wears pants and gets in fights? She will not.

I cannot wait for Towa to meet her dad and have him tell her the most beautiful words of all: “Do as you please.”

Four Seasons p. 50-51

Rin and Sesshomaru sit side by side at night on the grass. She is wearing a heavier kimono with flower patterns on her usual kosode.

Rin's thoughts in the background: The more you love the more you suffer

Sesshoumaru: Do you want to leave?

Rin: I was just thinking... This night is so peaceful and beautiful, you can see many nights like this... Many... But when I'll be gone that could be different. So please don't think about me and never... Never love me.

Rin's voice in the night: I think there's no need to ask you such a foolish thing but... I just want everything to stay like this forever.

Right here Sesshoumaru and Rin's images overlap.
Rin tells him: That's enough for me.

Rin's thoughts: Let me be with you... That's enough

Then we have images of a forest and
Rin's thoughts again: Where did the old days go? Since when did I realize that time goes too fast?

(Still I don't get why there are not more non-romantic fanfics about them, especially with grown-up Rin, Four Seasons having that romantic side not so loud and almost blending with platonic mood - except one single explicit kiss - is the only closest thing to my headcanon I could find so far but I would want more so much more)
