Have you ever wondered why some people live much longer while supposedly intelligent people wither and die early? My parents are a case in point. My Dad admittedly was much smarter than my mom. But these days Dad is overweight while mom is slim, he has difficulty walking while she goes salsa and tango dancing and can climb the roof, he can barely cook after 75 years of living, while she can cook amazing meals, he is a dangerous driver while mom drives like a race car driver, with speed and precision that would shame a thirty year old. She loves gardening while he just drinks wine and sits in front of the computer all day or sleeps. Mom got a degree in business after all three kids left home and continues to study and get many qualifications. She has had over 35 different jobs and is pretty impressive on a computer. She runs her own company, does all the accounting, the marketing, administration and manages a staff of 18. And she keeps a beautiful home. Lately she has got a piano and is banging away at it. She is adaptable and constantly changes. Not a week goes by without her trying something new, whether it is food, clothes, reading a book or buying a new gadget. She is always nosing around us children, finding out what we up to, copying what we are doing and borrowing our ideas. The idea for the Cinnamon Vogue company came from mom, because when she was visiting Sri Lanka she came across Cinnamon oil being used at a hotel. She asked for a sample, but they refused. Never one to give up she managed to visit a Cinnamon farm in Sri Lanka, got it and brought it back to the USA and gave me, her prodigal son the idea. I know I know I need to work on modesty. Lol. But I am willing to bet mom will live much longer than Dad and will have far less health complications if any. Now I believe mom is much smarter than Dad. Maybe she started with less neurons than Dad but over the years through the ability to try various foods that increase neurons, being adaptable, flexible, active, curious, the number of neurons in her brain far exceeds Dad. I am sure of it. And touch wood her health is very good. Nothing is more depressing than a parent whose health has gone down the tubes. Will you change? Can you change? Are you adaptable?

I been busy feeding organic millet to two birds who built a nest on my patio. It has been a little trying. Thier first nest fell down. So I secured it. Then they fled the nest. Probably because I touched it. Or so I thought. When I went to clear the nest a few weeks later there were 3 eggs. Oh goodness. So I put the nest back gently. What is unusual is the papa bird feeds the mama bird. The eggs are not hatched yet. They seem to be flying around. But everyday I put food and water for them. Need my young couple healthy when the babies come. I hope they come because the birds don't seem to go anywhere near the nest and I dare not disturb them again.

Yes, it is hard to wear masks, but you must do it especially at work. If you catch Covid-19 the costs will be high. Already we can expect hefty medical insurance premium increases for 2021. Funnily enough my Chinese, Japanese, Hong Kong and Korean friends wear the masks diligently. Guess they are used to it. That shows it is not that difficult to wear a mask. Us Americans on the other hand are fearless. Until we get it and then we cry like babies. We can’t stop the Corona virus. But wearing a facemask may allow you to avoid it and live a few more years. Otherwise you will get the Darwin award. I have warned all my none mask wearing friends they will get no sympathy from me if they get it.

I never have breakfast, because I fast every day. But sometimes especially after a heavy physical day I need some extra protein and a bit of carbs. Half-boiled eggs are my favorite. (I finally figured out the perfect half boiled eggs recipe. Boil the water first and then insert the eggs for 7 minutes exactly, put it ice water and peel). Then a side of stir-fried cinnamon mushrooms (*recipe on our website), a few pieces of streamed broccoli to clean the palate and tomato. And course three slices of sourdough bread with butter and a sliver of Marmite. For those of you who don’t know what Marmite is, it is a very British thing and quite the superfood. A thick spread that is very salty but packed with B vitamins. A great replacement for B vitamin supplements. The trick is to spread it very lightly as marmite is super concentrated. All you need is a sliver of it. All of this is washed down with a cup of Ceylon Cinnamon ginger tea which helps digestions and the ill effects of the carbs. So, a win win.

Try this virtual Halloween scavenger hunt to deal with Covid-19 social distancing. If you have kids or grandkids this is a fun activity. By now everyone is on Zoom so why not be a bit creative and invite other kids to a Zoom scavenger hunt? Get the kids to dress up and invite a group to a zoom session. Explain the game to them first. Get them ready.  Explain when an item is read out by an adult, they have look in the house for the item and quickly bring it the screen.  Who ever gets an item first gets a treat by their parents. Talk to the other parents and coordinate. Afterwards you could act out a ghost story. You can go creative with the props like sound effects and lighting. Adults can play this game too. It’s time to bring out the kid in all of us.
