cannot recommend more putting secrets and hints in your creative work that you dont expect anyone to figure out

I wrote a fic a few years back with a little secret/foreshadowy hint like this and I'm still so proud of it (aka I needed an excuse for a different character and his adopted werewolf daughter not to be present on a specific day - so I'm thinking 'why AREN'T they here' and then absentmindedly reread a part I'd written when lo and behold! I find that I'd already mentioned that the light of the full moon was washing into one character's room that evening Problem IMMEDIATELY solved. The family went camping specifically for supportive 'hang out where the giant wolf won't scare anyone' reasons made slightly odd by the fact that they already live in the forest but I figure the dad and kiddos would have fun camping anyway The connection is not brought up at all but I'm still secretly proud of it) writing
