"It may surprise you to know this," Ichirou says, his words slow and measured, "But I do not endorse the needless slaughter of innocent bystanders." Allison levels him with a cold look, if only to conceal her curiosity. Ichirou's expression is calm, but there is a flicker of feeling in his dark eyes. Something akin to regret. "You can't expect me to believe that," she bites out, "You're the head of the fucking yakuza. Needless slaughter is kind of your whole thing." "Incorrect," Ichirou says mildly, "My business is that of profit and enterprise, not senseless bloodshed." He pauses to sip at his whiskey, a hint of weariness settling around his mouth. "My father's second son did not understand this. It is why I killed him." Allison sniffs, taking a long draught of her own drink. The whiskey is fire down her throat, burning away the aching chill of Seth's absence. It hurts still, to think of him. The wound has never really healed. "I suppose you're expecting gratitude, then." "Far from it," Ichirou murmurs. Glass clinks softly against the marble bar top as he sets aside his drink and turns fully towards her, his knuckles brushing against the back of her wrist, "Though I may be foolish enough to hope for forgiveness." Allison swallows, her traitorous heartbeat picking up at the touch. She downs the rest of her drink all in one and rises to her feet. "You still have your room key?" Ichirou slowly nods, patting his suit pocket where the room key is undoubtedly hidden. Allison holds out her hand and waits until he hands it to her. "I don't need to forgive you," she says curtly, "Just to fuck you." She doesn't linger long enough to register his shocked expression, but the weight of his gaze follows her all the way back to the elevator in the hotel lobby. Soon, he'll follow her back upstairs. Soon, she will lose herself in him, burying her sorrow and her fury where it does not belong; in the arms of a man she should despise.

1. I really love in The Hormon-iums when Bob tells Tina “you are in charge of your own mouth, who you kiss with it and what you say with it.” I just think that is such a great dad moment, so often in shows dads are like gatekeepers to their daughters and it’s creepy but here Bob is empowering Tina and reminding her that she is the one in charge of her body.

2. Friends with Burger-fits when Bob wakes from a nightmare saying he’s killing Teddy and Linda with no hesitation says “your killing Teddy? Ok cars gassed up so that’s good, I guess I can homeschool the kids.” Linda is always ride or die for Bob and the kids 🤣

3. In Y Tu Ga-Ga Tambien when Rudy tells Gene that he knows their friends but “in the pit it don’t mean…crud. I thought I was gonna swear! I really thought I was!” It just cracks me up every time 🤣 like that’s such a kid thing to say like yes I’m gonna swear!

4. Manic Pixie Crap Show when Louise tells Tina “about this whole “am I pretty” thing, which I still think is stupid, but…I just want to say I like looking at you. I think, you know, your face holes are in really good spots. And if you’re not pretty, then I don’t know what is.” Like 🥺 my heart. I’ve seen some people complain about Louise being more sentimental in the newer seasons but I love it, it gives her layers.

5. Late Afternoon in the Garden of Bob and Louise, I love this whole episode. It’s one of my favorites and I can probably quote the whole thing by now lol but I love when Gene says “I bet when you guys reconnect in your 30s you guys will get married.” Because that quote is what launched me into Louigan 🤣🤣

Excellent points made!! And you know how I combat this when I rec it to people? I say hey I love this series but here are the things that I find problematic and the things I think you should know before reading. I don’t bash Nora as a writer or as a person.

It's been bothering me for a few days now, so:

I saw someone's list of reasons aftg is badly written, and most of them were entirely unrelated to the writing. It was largely a list of morality complaints and matters of taste with very few actual notes on the writing itself.

Something can be amoral and well written. Something can be highly moral and poorly written. These two traits have no correlation to each other whatsoever.

I fully understand if the quality of moral expression in a work makes someone unable to enjoy reading it, but that is not the same thing as bad writing.

I'm not going to pretend the series is perfect, but there is a reason it has captured so many hearts. That reason is in the writing right there alongside the issues. You'd think with someone as complex and wonderful and deeply flawed as Andrew being the most popular character, this fandom in particular would know to appreciate something for its flaws as much as its strengths
