Currently thinking very hard about how Neil was so cautious around Wymack in the first book. Like, if Wymack even got annoyed about something Neil very quickly made sure to put enough space between himself and Wymack to make sure he didn’t get hurt.

The fact that Wymack himself had to reassure Neil that he would never hurt him.

And then at the end of the second book, Wymack picks Neil up from the airport without any hesitation and is there for Neil when he’s panicking and helps to patch him up after everything that happened. Like, Wymack is so focused on making sure Neil is okay that nothing else matters in that moment.

David Wymack is THE dad ever and no one can change my mind about that.

I need to find more fics of Neil just being completely unhinged there’s something so cathartic about it.

Especially if the foxes look at him and go “oh man you are a little bit fucked up actually, we still love u tho”

I have finally given in and written my first Aftg fic!!

Honestly I like most of the EC 🤷🏼‍♀️

Except for me Jean and Renee are endgame and Kevin breaks up with Thea and gets together with Jeremy lol

And there’s probably other stuff too but Nora definitely should not get the hate that she does.

I know many people in the fandom hates the EC and for some reason also Nora (when she gave us aftg like what’s wrong with y’all) but how many authors give us as much as Nora did?! Who gave us so so much extra content when she could have just left us with the three books. I love the EC with my entire heart and I understand if you don’t agree with some of it but hating it ?? And hating the author for it?? The EC is so under-appreciated and underrated.

Excellent points made!! And you know how I combat this when I rec it to people? I say hey I love this series but here are the things that I find problematic and the things I think you should know before reading. I don’t bash Nora as a writer or as a person.

It's been bothering me for a few days now, so:

I saw someone's list of reasons aftg is badly written, and most of them were entirely unrelated to the writing. It was largely a list of morality complaints and matters of taste with very few actual notes on the writing itself.

Something can be amoral and well written. Something can be highly moral and poorly written. These two traits have no correlation to each other whatsoever.

I fully understand if the quality of moral expression in a work makes someone unable to enjoy reading it, but that is not the same thing as bad writing.

I'm not going to pretend the series is perfect, but there is a reason it has captured so many hearts. That reason is in the writing right there alongside the issues. You'd think with someone as complex and wonderful and deeply flawed as Andrew being the most popular character, this fandom in particular would know to appreciate something for its flaws as much as its strengths
