"There's a carving in our gate," said Dacey. "A woman in a bearskin, with a child in one arm suckling at her breast. In her other hand she holds a battleaxe. She's no proper lady, that one, but I always loved her."

The Thing About Katara Is That She Was Angry.
The thing about Katara is that she was angry.
She was angry that the Fire Nation killed her mother.
She was angry that her father left them.
She was angry that she was the only Waterbender left in the south pole.
She was angry that the only person her age was her brother, who constantly disregarded her interests and her role in the tribe.
She was angry that what little waterbending she knew, had to be self-taught and how she struggled with that.
she was angry that a twelve year old instantly picked up what had taken her a long time to learn.
she was also angry that her tribe wanted to kick that twelve year old into the wilderness over a mistake.
she was angry over the earth-benders the fire nation had captured and put into a metal box.
she was angry.
And she knew she was angry.
Because she knew her own anger, she was the first to empathize with Aang when he got angry.
And it was because of it she could tell Aang forcing himself to lock his emotions up was not the answer.
Because she knew her own anger, she kept herself under control in the dessert, when everyone else was a mess.
Her anger empowered her. where anger was a tool of self-destruction for firebenders, for her it was what helped her push forward.
It was her anger that freed Aang.
It was her anger that helped her stand to Pakku.
Her anger was her strenght.
She was angry. And this was neither a mistake, nor a writing flaw.

Your mom finding her friend at a store is like unskippable cutscenes
This kid has too many jobs and not enough ways to wind down at the end of the day! Let’s give him some :)
In hindsight, it would have been way better if the s3 epilogue with Claudia and Viren back in 2019 included Claudia saying “it’s been two years dad.”
That would have come as such a shock, and would have immediately sprouted a wellspring of fandom interest as to what happened during that time. It would have been clear from purely a production timeline that this was going to be a long wait, but including the fact that a two year timeskip was in the wings would have really sent most of us reeling.
arya underfoot is my fave sobriquet in asoiaf. i love love love it. arya is "dubbed" underfoot by her father's men. its a sign of affection between the men who served the starks and arya who took in interest in them. she had a close relationship with all of the people in winterfell and this name is an enduring part of that.
arya says fat tom came up with the name. its one of the last things hullen says with his dying breath. when his son harwin recognizes arya its what he calls her while holding back tears. even in adwd jon and theon both think of her as arya underfoot.
its a name arya likes which is why its frequently used in contrast with horseface - a name that made her feel like an outsider. arya underfoot, though, is a gesture of arya being embraced by her community. it really feels like the truest essence of her character.
hey don't be sad. deeply silly 18th century Iranian bird scissors.
