"Frodo's Decision"

2021

"Frodo's Decision"

A great dread fell on him, as if he was awaiting the pronouncement of some doom that he had long foreseen and vainly hoped might after all never be spoken.

-"The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring", by J.R.R. Tolkien

An underrated moment of great courage: Frodo, who up to this point thought that the worst had passed, that he had done his bit, that he'd return home soon, and after already having felt a taste of the burden of the Ring and been pursued (and wounded) by the servants of Sauron, volunteers to take the Ring to Mordor.

"The Moon's Guardian"

...but Tilion was a hunter of the company of Oromë, and he had a silver bow. He was a lover of silver, and when he would rest he forsook the woods of Oromë, and going into Lórien he lay in dream by the pools of Estë, in Telperion’s flickering beams; and he begged to be given the task of tending for ever the last Flower of Silver.

-"The Silmarillion", by J.R.R. Tolkien

"Galadriel's Test"

"Galadriel's Test"

She stood before Frodo seeming now tall beyond measurement, and beautiful beyond enduring, terrible and worshipful.

-"The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring", by J.R.R. Tolkien

A small (albeit very memorable) moment in LotR, yet perhaps the single, most important, defining moment in the whole of Galadriel's storyline; where everything she has ever dreamed off comes within her grasp, and she resists the temptation and accepts her own diminishment.

"Minds The Dead Have Ravished"

These are men whose minds the Dead have ravished. Memory fingers in their hair of murders, Multitudinous murders they once witnessed.

-"Mental Cases", by Wilfred Owen

I did this series inspired by shell shocked soldiers of the First World War back in 2018 in time for the 100th anniversary of the armistice. Let us all strive to live in a world free of the ravages of imperialism and war.
