Arien bc I need to practice doing full body drawings. I'll probably change her back leg bc it doesn't look right....
Rebloging this once I'm done coloring
You didn’t think I would bother with something as redundant as organs, did you?
A maiar’s fana is like vacuum packing themselves within their skin
So, do the Valar know the elves aren’t just fleshy-Maiar?
(I’m tired so this might be ramble-y but oh well)
So, Pre-elves the Valar only really interact with Maiar, who basically do whatever they want and are kind of just fancy servants. The only times we actually see a Maia rebel- e.g. Mairon- it’s basically just a switch in who they listen too and not a bid for independence.
So has anyone except Melkor actually flat out told the Valar No?
Because if not that sort of explains how they have no idea how to deal with the elves.
Specifically the Noldor.
Because the Noldor, even though they are favoured by Aule, strive to create independently and without oversight from the Valar, and it’s with them the Valar screw up the most. Literally most of the problems in the first age would have been less catastrophic if the Valar had just let them leave. No first kinslaying because Olwe could just let the borrow the boats, no Helcaraxe, someone could have slapped Feanor upside the head before he got himself killed ect. But instead the Valar just...thought they’d be listened to when they told them to not go after the guy who murdered their dearly beloved king and stay put in Valinor forever, even when it’s implied Namo already knew Finwe is dead and should probably have told his son as soon as he found out but didn’t and the Valar immediately mourned the loss of the Silmarils rather than the elf who died in a place they promised would be safe.
And not knowing how elves work would kind of explain why they thought Feanor would be okay with Finwe remarrying. No Maiar had ever been unhappy with their decisions, so why would an elf be different?
It also explains the...weirder aspects of LaCE. Because some of LaCE reads like it was invented purely for population control (see sex as an act purely to create children), and that would make sense if it was put down by a race that just didn’t do sex as the ainur are implied to be. And everyone is expected to follow it and be happy, because no-one had ever told the Valar they weren’t.
Any way, idk. I’m probably reading too much into this, and this probably wasn’t articulated very well.
Tl:dr- The Valar got too used to dealing with people that do everything they tell them too and elves don’t like being told what to do Thank You Very Much
Ilmare
Ilmare is fondest of the Noldor because they’re actually interested in her work past the aesthetic value and will listen to her talk about the actual process behind stars intead of just constellations, but she is explicitly banned by Manwe and Varda from revealing the existence of atoms because Feanor does not need to know about nuclear fission and nuclear fusion. She and Eonwe are each others rebounds because she never got over Thuringwethil and he never got over Mairon.
Ilmare and Eonwe
Ilmare is a collection of tiny stars suspended in a void. She has a massive gravitational pull, and is incredibly radioactive without a fana
Eonwe is the type of high speed wind that precedes a hurricane. He has less of a sense of self than some other maiar, because he often ends up picking things up and integrating them whenever he interacts with the world- which is how he got his feathers.
Eonwe around other maiar and Eonwe around elves I cannot draw armour, I am so sorry
I headcannon Manwe to never be entirely relaxed around elves, not because he doesn't like them, but because of an underestimation of how fragile they and the feeling that they need the protection of the Ainur. Because of this, all his maiar end up having to be in their more warlike fana around Elves so if a threat comes up they can fight it immediately without having to drop a more casual fana and then shift into armour.
Eonwe doesn't really agree with this, and always ends up avoiding elves more than he'd like because he feels like he ends up scaring them off, which then gives him a reputation as being uptight and cold.
"Too bright were the eyes of Arien for even the Eldar to look on, and leaving Valinor she forsook the form and raiment which like the Valar she had worn there, and she was as a naked flame, terrible in the fullness of her splendor."
“But Sauron was not of mortal flesh, and though he was robbed now of that shape in which had wrought so great an evil, so that he could never again appear fair to the eyes of Men, yet his spirit arose out of the deep and passed as a shadow and a black wind over the sea, and came back to Middle-earth and to Mordor that was his home.”
She is about to tell you how and when you’re going to die
Listening to CS Lewis’s Ransom Trilogy, the Eldila and Oyéresu are basically Invisible Space Maiar and Valar and the Old Solar language is CS Lewis’s version of Elvish

"One for the Dark Lord"
2020
But secretly Sauron made One Ring to rule all the others, and their power was bound up with it, to be subject wholly to it and to last only so long as it too should last. And much of the strength and will of Sauron passed into that One Ring; for the power of the Elven-rings was very great, and that which should govern them must be a thing of surpassing potency; and Sauron forged it in the Mountain of Fire in the Land of Shadow. And while he wore the One Ring he could perceive all the things that were done by means of the lesser rings, and he could see and govern the very thoughts of those that wore them.

"The Eye"
2020
The Eye: that horrible sense of a hostile will that strove with great power to pierce all shadows of cloud, and earth, and flesh, and to see you: to pin you under its deadly gaze, naked, immovable.
-"The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers", by J.R.R. Tolkien
One of my favorite concepts or design ideas introduced in the Hobbit Trilogy was having the actual silhouette of Sauron appear as the pupil of the Red Eye.
I tried that idea here but with the original design for the Eye from the LotR Trilogy.
"The Return of the Shadow"

But Sauron was not of mortal flesh, and though he was robbed now of that shape in which had wrought so great an evil, so that he could never again appear fair to the eyes of Men, yet his spirit arose out of the deep and passed as a shadow and a black wind over the sea, and came back to Middle-earth and to Mordor that was his home.

...but Tilion was a hunter of the company of Oromë, and he had a silver bow. He was a lover of silver, and when he would rest he forsook the woods of Oromë, and going into Lórien he lay in dream by the pools of Estë, in Telperion’s flickering beams; and he begged to be given the task of tending for ever the last Flower of Silver.

"Gandalf the White"
2022
His hair was white as snow in the sunshine; and gleaming white was his robe; his eyes under his deep brows were bright, piercing as the rays of the sun; power was in his hand. Between wonder, joy, and fear they stood and found no words to say.
-"The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers", by J.R.R. Tolkien
Unarguably the most miraculous moment in the Lord of the Rings: Gandalf's return to Middle-earth, and to the Fellowship, with newfound power and in a midst of white radiance. Masterfully portrayed by Peter Jackson in the Two Towers adaptation, where the scene's soundtrack gives the sense of a choir of angels accompanying Gandalf on his return to life. There's a feeling of something more than magical happening here, something divine, which is of course the case.
"Saruman's Downfall"
2023
There was a crack, and the staff split asunder in Saruman's hand, and the head of it fell down at Gandalf's feet.
-"The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers", by J.R.R. Tolkien
There are a lot of scenes in the Extended Edition of Return of the King that by rights should have been included in the theatrical release; Saruman's final fate ranks among the top of those. And I know this may be a controversial take, but I much prefer him being killed in this scene, fresh after his defeat by the Ents and at Helm's Deep, than at the very anticlimactic Scouring of the Shire business in the books.
not really canonical scene, but i couldn't resist
Headcanons what it would be like to be Melkor's only Maia
Melkor (Morgoth) x GN!Reader
Warnings: manipulative behavior, toxic relationship, abuse, Yandere, gaslighting, possessive behaviors, yandere behavior, angst
Note: A Request by @shamelessredpanda
Melkor's decision to confine himself to a single Maia can be traced to his fear of abandonment, which stems from a deep sense of rejection toward the other Ainur. He perceives that they lack comprehension of his visionary ideas and are unable to extend the support he craves
This experience left Melkor with a deep sense of isolation and loneliness, and he became convinced that he could only truly rely on himself. As a result, he became possessive and jealous of those who he cared about, including his only Maia
Melkor would be constantly paranoid that his Maia would leave him for someone else, and would go to great lengths to keep them by his side
As Melkors only Maia, it would be a confusing and stressful situation to be in. On one hand, they would feel flattered and honored that Melkor, a powerful Vala, would be in love with them. On the other hand, they would be deeply troubled by the fact that he is capable of causing great harm to the world
"Love is a cruel mistress. It tempts us with its sweet embrace and then crushes us in its grasp. We are but pawns in its game, unable to resist its pull. And yet, despite its cruelty, we continue to chase it, to crave its touch. For in its depths, we find a darkness that consumes us whole, a darkness that is all too familiar. And so, my love, we dance together in this twisted game, our hearts entwined in its embrace"
The Maia's true loyalty is to the light, and they have been sent to infiltrate Melkor's ranks and gather information to aid in the fight against him. However, as time passed, the Maia began to feel a genuine connection to Melkor and his cause, and started to question their own allegiances
The Maia is aware of Melkor's dark nature and has tried to distance themselves from him, but his love and charm have always drawn them back in
Having only one Maia enables Melkor to maintain control over his lover and ensures that they would never leave him. It also enables him to present a united front against his enemies, as he and his Maia work together to spread chaos and destruction throughout the world
Moreover, Melkor's desire for control and perfection also plays a role in his decision to have only one Maia. He sees his Maia as a reflection of himself and wants to maintain complete control over their development and actions. By having only one Maia, Melkor is able to shape them into the perfect being for him, one who would never betray him or leave him
Melkor has chosen his Maia because he sees potential in them, he knows that with the right training and guidance, they could become a powerful being
The Maia is an entity that possesses an array of mystical abilities that are beyond the realm of human comprehension. Amongst these abilities are spells and curses that can be cast upon individuals, objects, or even entire communities. The Maia's spells are imbued with ancient knowledge and power, which can be harnessed to accomplish different purposes
Furthermore, the curses of Maia are powerful and can have dire consequences for those who incur their wrath. From altering the course of events to manipulating reality itself, the Maia's magical abilities are truly awe-inspiring and leave no doubt that it is a force to be reckoned with
It would be a tumultuous relationship, with Melkor constantly fighting against any perceived threats to his power and control over the only Maia he cares about
Being Melkor's only Maia would be a mix of both adoration and fear. Being the only one he truly cares about would mean being the object of his affection and attention, but on the other hand, it would also mean being subject to his possessiveness and jealousy. The constant fear of losing the only being he truly cares about would lead to him being overprotective, and even controlling
"As much as you may perceive me as being unkind, my actions are a testament of my affection towards you. My utmost priority is to ensure that you remain safe and out of harm's way, which is why I feel compelled to keep you in close proximity to me at all times. You are a precious gem to me, an invaluable possession that I hold dear. You bring me immense joy and satisfaction, akin to a prized possession. Hence, I will go to great lengths to maintain my hold on you, as you are mine and mine alone"
Melkor would be consumed by his love and desire for his only Maia, and would do anything to protect and control them. This would lead to a power imbalance in the relationship, with the Maia being at the mercy of Melkor's whims and desires
"You make me want to do things to you that would make even the most depraved gods blush"
Despite his possessiveness, Melkor would also be extremely affectionate and loving towards his Maia, showering them with gifts and attention. However, this affection would also be tinged with a sense of ownership, as if he believes they belong to him and him alone
Melkor would give them a beautiful and powerful blade, made by himself. Such an item would be the most important and sacred of all. The possessor of such a weapon would be granted unimaginable power, and a direct connection to Melkor. As long as his Maia wield such an instrument, he would know where they were as well
"Accept my sword, my beloved. This weapon possesses incalculable might and shall provide you with a link to my essence. I trust that you shall employ this instrument to accomplish magnificent feats in my honor!"
Love is a powerful emotion that can bring great joy and fulfillment, but it can also lead to obsession and blindness. This is especially true for Melkor, who is so devoted to his beloved Maia that he may not even be aware of his own obsession. Despite his immense power and intelligence, he may be blinded by his feelings and fail to see the dangers that lurk behind his lover's sweet smile. Perhaps one day, he may be shocked to discover that his beloved Maia has a knife hidden behind their back, ready to strike at any moment

Melkor (Morgoth) x GN!Maia
Warnings: Injury
Note: A Request by @shamelessredpanda and it's a follow-up to the Headcanons: What it would be like to be Melkor's only Maia
Melkor, a powerful Ainur, burned with a fierce protectiveness for his beloved Maia. When he saw the evidence of the fight marring his Maia's delicate features, a simmering rage ignited within him.
Melkor's eyes narrowed as he tenderly traced the Maia's bruised cheek, his touch feather-light yet possessive. "Who did this to you?" he murmured, his voice deceptively soft. The Maia trembled under the intensity of his gaze, sensing the barely restrained fury simmering beneath the surface.
With deliberate movements, Melkor tilted the Maia's chin up, his fingers curling around their jaw as he scrutinized the injury. His grip tightened ever so slightly, a silent promise of vengeance. "Tell me everything," he commanded, his eyes burning with a primal need to protect.
As he gently wiped away the streak of crimson, the Maia's breath caught in their throat, sensing Melkor's barely restrained fury.
As the Maia recounted the events, Melkor's expression darkened, a muscle in his jaw twitching with barely suppressed rage. When the tale was finished, he pulled the Maia close, cradling them possessively. "I will not allow this transgression to go unpunished," he growled, pressing a fierce, almost bruising kiss to the Maia's brow before striding out, his hand already reaching for his formidable arsenal.
The Maia watched in a mixture of awe and trepidation as Melkor gathered his formidable arsenal and strode out, the air crackling with his barely contained power. Time seemed to crawl by, the ominous silence punctuated only by the Maia's anxious heartbeat. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting an eerie glow, the Maia couldn't help but feel a sense of foreboding.
Hours later, Melkor returned, his clothing and skin stained with blood. He stood before the Maia, his gaze intense and unyielding. "It is done," he stated, a feral glint in his eyes. "They will never trouble you again."
The Maia felt relief and unease. They knew Melkor would stop at nothing to protect them, but the sheer intensity of his wrath left them unsettled. What other battles would he wage in the name of their safety? The Maia clung to the knowledge of Melkor's unwavering devotion, even as they feared the consequences of his unyielding fury.
