Summary:

Merlin Modern AU

Arthur Pendragon is a 23-year-old NQT preparing for his first year of teaching Music to international students at Durham University; and he is all kinds of stressed and nervous. So, when cocky northerner Emrys ends up dumped in his class, his first year of teaching becomes anything other than what he’d expected.

Emrys Smith is a 20-year-old talented local student who has applied for the music course at Durham University with a full scholarship, and with pressure from his Mother. He was the only local student to pass the entry requirements and on his first day he is thrown in with the international students. There he meets his lecturer, Arthur Pendragon, and fresh meat is always the easiest target.

After a horrible event takes place, Arthur and Emrys form a bond which they can’t allow to become anything more than a standard Teacher/Student relationship- but Arthur learns of Emrys’ dark background and can’t help but feel tenderly for him.

Only after Arthur pushes Emrys away does he realise he’s head over heels for his student.

Trigger Warning: Contains scenes of Sexual Abuse and Emotional Abuse involving one of the main characters.

Merlin: *bursting through the doors* What's wrong?!

Gwen: GODDAMNIT ARTHUR AND I ARE FIGHTING!

Merlin: *gives the pregnant Gwen a pitying look* In front of the child?

Gwen: Oh, yeah, right. How stupid of me. Wait a second I'll just unbuckle it for a moment and put it out in the courtyard. YES OF COURSE IN FRONT OF THE CHILD! IT'S INSIDE OF ME!!!

Morgana: You broke up with Gwen.

Arthur: Yeah, I kind of want to date someone else.

Morgana: Oh, really. What's her name?

Arthur: Merlin.

In a group of friends, there are a lot of different roles to fill. The smart one, the hot one, the sporty one, the musical one... And in my friend group, I am all of them.

So I am fully at a complete loss for words.

I literally have the worst attention span, so when it comes to reading.. Something really needs to grab my attention.

I rarely opt in to reading anything longer than say 5000 words without lots of recommendation but I figured that after seeing how hard she’d worked on it, I’d read @tinylilemrys ’ In My Cardboard Walls

Now it’s worth noting that contrary to having a very short attention span, I have still read a lot of books.

I wasn’t sure what I was expecting of this story but it literally blew. me. away.

It has been perfectly put together, and unbelievably well written. Of course the characters are all from Merlin, but the originality of the story is undeniable. Every single paragraph was entertaining in one way or another and the way in which it was written really helped me to bond with the characters.

I honestly believe that you could rewrite this with different character names and release it as a book. Like I’d buy it and promote it so hard.

This is better than some of the actually published books that I have read and can we PLEASE appreciate the music that was written and recorded for this too?

You are clearly a woman of many, many outrageous talents and this has become probably my most cherished Merlin fic that I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading.

It was tragically beautiful and I have truly fallen in love with it. As a writer and musician myself, I want to say that you, lady, are an absolute inspiration. ❤️❤️❤️

Everytime I watch Merlin s02 e08 "the sins of the father" I am convinced that Merlin could've just openly carried that rope into Arthur's chambers, instead of magically wrapping it around his body, and no one would've even questioned it.
