In s1e2 Valiant, Merlin turns the statue into the dog. We never find out what happened to the dog afterward but imagine if Merlin kept it. The dog would follow him around and imagine if it went on hunts with Arthur and Merlin. It would be amazing if the dog was an amazing hunting dog, Arthur would never shut up about how he only brings Merlin along for the dog. And if Arthur saw Merlin like throwing a stick and smiling and having fun with the doggo, he would be IMMEDIATELY smitten.

Merlin deserved to keep the dog. Man’s best friend. Someone he could rant to about magic. He could name it Sire or something and Arthur would look up to see what Merlin wants, and Merlin would say, “I was talking to the dog, prat” or something
