Beneath Their Masks Chapter 26 is Up!

Only a month late. I've got about two chapters left until I'm done, but I figured I ought to post some of the ones I already have ready right now instead of posting them all at once. That's big brain. I think. I dunno. Enjoy?

Having returned from visiting the Niijima sister’s parents at the cemetery, Makoto and Ann joined Sae and Mitsuru for dinner. It was a light affair, consisting of grilled fish and rice, with miso soup on the side. There was also an expensive looking bottle of wine and two wine glasses for Sae and Mitsuru. Sae had protested at opening such a bottle, to which Mitsuru glanced at it and said it wasn’t that expensive. Sae gave her a look that Makoto couldn’t place, and Mitsuru just smiled, pulling the cork out with the corkscrew as she did.

“Mitsuru, you never told me you could cook.” Sae said, surprised at the spread she had prepared.

“It never came up. Just something I picked up when I was in high school. Friends of mine taught me some things here and there after school in our dorm’s kitchen.” Mitsuru said, a content smile on her face. She had her hair up in a high bun, along with an apron with a floral pattern on it, faded from years of countless washings. “That would have been…oh, goodness, eight years ago? Time sure flies, doesn’t it?”

So I've got an 11/20 fic since today (er, yesterday) was 11/20, but I kind of want to sit on it until I'm done with BTM. I've got two more chapters of that written, but I think I'll wait until I have all of the remaining chapters finished to release them. I'm sure if people are waiting for it to be finished, getting a notification that it's ACTUALLY DONE would be nice to see. So there you go, all ten of you, this poorly informed decision is for you! :)

So that means there's only like, four left? It's nice to be able to go in and make little changes here and there if I remember something. I'm a little apprehensive, since I still have a hard time judging if something I post is good or not. Sometimes, I really feel happy with something before I post it. Most of the time, I have my doubts if what I've written is actually any good. I haven't heard any complaints or critiques, sooo...

But ya know, that's just how it is making stuff and posting it on the internet. You think it's shit, but someone likes it. A person's worst critic is themselves.

Ann: where are you at in the story?

Makoto: I um…haven’t been going through the story lately. I’m still where I was a few days ago.

Ann: oh gotcha

Makoto: But I have been…what did you call it? Grinding?

Ann: you’ve been grinding for the last couple days?

Futaba: woah…

Ann: what level are you?

Makoto: I think I just hit level 60.

Ann: WHAT

Futaba: makoto has fallen victim to “number go up”

If you're on the app, immediately go to your dms and then "add friends". After the latest update they allow your contacts to find you and have that option turned on by default, so make sure it's unchecked!

This is very obviously not great for a multitude of reasons, but especially for people in vulnerable positions who do not want people in their contacts to see who they are on discord and/or know they have discord in the first place. I've also tried finding out if this is a thing on desktop but haven't been able to find any mention of it, so either it's not a "feature" (yet) or they've hidden it. Either way, stay safe, and turn off finding friends via contacts!
