Won’t You Be My Neighbor?

…………………………………………………………………………….

Wont You Be My Neighbor?

“Mom! Have you seen my baseball glove? I can’t find it anywhere!”

Henry’s voice calling out sounded through the house from the back door, and Y/N made her way through the living room and into the kitchen as she answered him.

“It’s already in the car, kiddo,” she called back out to him, and then lowered her voice to a normal volume as she entered the kitchen and saw him standing in the back hallway. “Do you have everything else?”

“Yeah,” he replied with a nod.

“Where’s Max?” Y/N asked.

“He’s putting his bike away. I told him to grab the bats.”

“Ok, perfect,” Y/N replied with a nod of her own. She then turned to make for her car keys, but stopped when her phone suddenly began to ring, reaching in her back pocket.

“It’s Dad,” she then said to Henry as she held her phone in her free hand and looked down at the screen before then looking back up at him. “You and Max get the bats and everything else in the car and then we’ll go,” she said as she looked up at him again. “I’ll be right there.”

“Ok,” Henry replied with another enthusiastic nod. He grabbed her keys out of the dish on the table and then he turned and went back outside.

Looking down again, Y/N tapped the icon to answer the call and then lifted the phone to her ear.

“Hey,” she said with a smile.

“Hey, yourself,” came Emmett’s voice, obviously also smiling. “I wasn’t sure if you’d be able to pick up; I figured you guys would already be on your way to the game.”

“We’re just about to leave,” Y/N confirmed as she cradled the phone between her ear and shoulder and walked across the kitchen, using her free hand to open the refrigerator. “Are you there already?”

“No,” Emmett replied. “I’m leaving the shop now, but I wanted to call really quick. How’s Sadie doing?”

Smiling lovingly down at the baby on her hip as she reached into the fridge and retrieved the bottle of milk, Y/N replied as she closed the door and turned back around.

“She’s much better today. The doctor called and confirmed it’s just a minor ear infection and that she’ll continue to feel better each day, so nothing to worry about.”

“Good,” Emmett replied, feeling relieved as he made his way to his car and then opened the door. “Do you need me to stop at the store and pick anything up on my way? Did you get more diapers?”

“Oh, crap! I forgot to get some when we all went to the store earlier,” Y/N replied. “We got distracted in the cookie aisle.”

Emmett chuckled.

“I’ll pick some up on my way to the game,” he said.

“Thank you, Daddy,” Y/N replied then, pretending it was Sadie talking, and Emmett smiled.

“Sadie, did Mommy get the cookies?” he asked, playing along. “That’s the most important thing.”

“Yes, I got the cookies,” Y/N said in her own voice, smiling as she adjusted Sadie on her hip and looked at her. “But Daddy doesn’t get any, right?”

At that, Sadie made a cooing noise that sounded a lot like she was agreeing with Y/N, and she and Emmett both laughed as he heard it through the phone.

“She’s only six months old and you’re already turning her against me?” Emmett said jokingly. “Unbelievable.”

“Oh, relax,” Y/N replied with a smile. Then she lowered her voice slightly before continuing, even though the boys were outside and the baby couldn’t understand what she was saying. “Stop complaining, and I’ll give you your own very special cookie later on,” she said suggestively.

Emmett paused in the driver’s seat as he was about to shift the car into reverse.

“You shouldn’t talk that way around children,” he said, the lust in his voice still obvious even as he pretended to be stern.

“So, you don’t want a cookie, then?” Y/N responded with a giggle. “Sadie, Daddy doesn’t want a cookie.”

“Watch it, princess,” Emmett replied then. “You can’t use our daughter as a buffer for when you decide to get smart. You’ll still be in trouble.”

Giggling again, Y/N was about to reply, but then Henry called from the driveway.

“Mom! Come on! We’re gonna be late!”

“I’m coming!” she called after pulling back from the phone for a second. Then she spoke into the phone again as she turned back to the counter and grabbed the diaper bag.

“I gotta go,” she said to Emmett as she carried Sadie towards the back door. “Just look for us when you get there. We’ll sit where we always sit.”

“Ok, sounds good,” Emmett replied. “I’ll see you soon. I love you.”

“I love you, too,” Y/N said warmly, then spoke for Sadie again. “Bye, Daddy.”

“Bye, girls,” came Emmett’s reply, the smile never having left his face.

•.•.•.•.•

“My God, she just gets more adorable every time I see her!”

Y/N smiled as she passed Sadie over to Jackie, who she’d met up with upon getting to the baseball game. Now that Max was also playing this year, Jackie was handing down to them a bunch of her son’s older gear that was too small for him now.

“I know,” Y/N said, still smiling. “It almost hurts to look at her. You know, she made this face today that was so stinking cute I almost died.”

Jackie laughed and shook her head and she smiled down at Sadie, then looked back up at Y/N.

“Well, believe me, those moments will only continue to happen, so just make sure you have plenty of memory on your phone for all the photos.”

“I know. Emmett and I have already had to buy extra storage on our phones, like, five times, and she’s only six months old,” Y/N laughed. “And the boys are constantly stealing our phones to take even more pictures of themselves with her or record something. It’s so sweet.”

“So, they’re still enjoying having a little sister?”

“Oh, gosh, they are completely enamored! Talk about so sweet that it almost hurts. Henry is constantly checking on her and will hold her for hours at a time, and Max is always trying to make her laugh and gives her about a hundred kisses a day. They’re so good with her.”

Jackie grinned again.

“And what about Emmett?”

At that, Y/N smiled even bigger, shaking her head.

“I can’t even talk about that, or I’m seriously going to cry. Every day I think I’ve finally built up a tolerance to seeing him with her, and then something else happens that just makes me melt. He is wrapped around her finger.”

Laughing, Jackie passed Sadie back to Y/N, Y/N replacing her on her hip and lovingly cradling the back of her head.

“It seems like just yesterday you guys dating was the newest gossip around town. And now, so much has happened since then.” Jackie paused and then shook her head in disbelief. “Crazy how time flies, huh?”

“I know, it’s hard believe, isn’t it?” said Y/N, shaking her head and smiling as she looked up.

It was true – in just a year and a half, so much had changed.

While not easy to navigate by any means, the aftermath of Norah’s last departure hadn’t been nearly as bad as either Emmett or Y/N had expected. While the boys were disappointed and full of questions about her departure, they were actually most concerned about what was going to happen between Emmett and Y/N.

Both Max and Henry had sought repeated reassurance that although Norah was out of the picture, Y/N was still very much in it, and the relief Y/N would see on their faces each time she and Emmett assured them that she wasn’t going anywhere nearly broke her heart. Just when she thought she couldn’t love those boys any more than she already did, she was proven wrong when they both had voiced that they loved her, too. She promised them that she would always be there for them, and she knew the bond with them was as strong as it would be if they were her biological children.

Not wanting to make any other major changes too quickly, Emmett had planned to wait a bit longer to ask Y/N to marry him, but it was only a couple weeks after Norah had left that the boys had once again asked if he and Y/N were going to get married. With their repeated insistence that they wanted it to happen, Emmett had asked her shortly thereafter, and of course, she’d immediately said yes.

Deciding to forgo a big wedding, they’d planned a small but lovely ceremony with their closest friends and family, and since it wasn’t anything extremely over the top that took endless weeks of planning, they’d gotten married only two months after Emmett proposed. At first, Y/N was also concerned about making any changes too quickly, but after the boys had begun calling her “Mom” upon she and Emmett’s engagement, she knew everything was going to be alright. She also knew that that title was something she’d forever cherish, especially when Emmett told her that the boys had told him that they’d considered her their mom for a long time before that.

But the title of mother was once again on its way, although much sooner than expected. While they’d began trying for a baby right after they got married, both Y/N and Emmett expected it to take several months. Needless to say, it was a shock – albeit a very happy one – when Y/N had immediately gotten pregnant within a few weeks of the wedding. Once again nervous about such a quick change, they were worried about telling the boys, but it was a pointless worry, as both Henry and Max were completely elated at the knowledge that they were going to be big brothers.

But their happiness couldn’t top Y/N’s or Emmett’s, and when Y/N had told Emmett she was pregnant, he had held her with his hands on her stomach for a good hour before finally letting her go so she could call her parents and tell them the news. She’d been incredibly nervous in the beginning, worried that something would go wrong, but as the weeks passed and everything unfolded as it was supposed to, she was finally able to relish the idea that she was having a baby, something that she’d always wanted. The fact that it was with Emmett was the absolute icing on the cake, and she only loved him more each day as she thought about how, with him, she had everything else she’d ever wanted as well. How excited Emmett was only made it even sweeter, as he was completely thrilled when they found out they were having a girl.

For her entire pregnancy, Emmett had savored watching Y/N with love and pride, seeing the evidence of their child growing inside her as her stomach grew, and knowing that with her, things were now how they should be. She’d given him everything he could want, and he loved her more each day for it. What they had together was incredibly special, and that bled into everything else, too. They had each other, they had the boys, and now, they had this new baby on the way, making their family complete.

But the pregnancy happening sooner than expected also meant that finding a new house was now the priority. But after two months of looking, they hadn’t found anything that was quite right, and so they ultimately decided to build.

The stress had been high, as they were in the midst of completing the process of Y/N’s officially adopting the boys as well while trying to manage the home construction and the move, wanting to wrap everything up before the baby arrived. Somewhat surprisingly, but to their relief, Norah had signed off on officially forfeiting her parental rights. Shockingly, she’d agreed to do so without argument, and both Y/N and Emmett liked to think that something from what they’d said to her back when she’d left had hit home and made her realize that it was for the best. Regardless, they were incredibly pleased with her cooperation and weren’t going to question it, and the adoptions were official soon thereafter.

To top it all off, in the whirlwind of everything else, and then having only just moved into the new house after a little over 7 months of construction, the baby had decided to make her appearance a month and a half ahead of schedule.

They weren’t exactly sure why Y/N had gone into labor so early, but of course, the initial reaction had been panic. After hearing everything Emmett and Y/N had been juggling, the doctor chalked the early delivery up to stress, but fortunately, although early, Sadie had been declared completely healthy, and everyone felt immense relief upon her being given the all-clear. After two weeks in the NICU for monitoring and to get her weight up, they’d been able to take her home, and Y/N and Emmett had finally been able to breathe a sigh of relief in having all the previous stress behind them, and getting through everything like they did had only brought them closer.

Thinking back on it all, it was so hard to believe that it was early September and Sadie was now six months old already. Just as Jackie had said, the time had flown by, and Y/N found it amusingly ironic that she was standing in the middle of the exact same ballpark where she and Emmett had had their snarky little argument in the very beginning, and now, here she stood, holding their baby.

“Mom!” Max suddenly called out, and Y/N looked over her shoulder to where he stood several yards away. “Can I go sit with Jake until my team plays?”

“Sure, kiddo,” Y/N answered. “But make sure you’re paying attention for when your coach calls you guys up.”

Max nodded.

“I will,” he replied, and then he ran off to join his friend at the far end of the bleachers.

Smiling as she turned back around and adjusted Sadie on her hip, Y/N spoke to Jackie once more.

“I should get seated and give this one her bottle,” she said. “But let me know when you’re free for a girls’ night. I want to plan something with you, Melissa, and Stacy again sometime soon.”

“Just name the place and I’m there,” Jackie replied, and they laughed again before parting ways.

After making her way up the bleachers with Sadie and the diaper bag in tow, Y/N sat down and was just about to give her a bottle when she happened to glance up and saw Emmett making his way across the parking lot towards them. She lifted her free hand in a wave at him to get his attention, but he’d already spotted her, and he smiled as he kept walking.

Seeing Y/N with Sadie was something that would never cease to cause the most wonderful stab of emotion in Emmett’s chest. It was the exact same way he felt every time he saw her with the boys, and as Henry and Max called out greetings to him as they noticed him arriving while they got ready to play, he called back to each of them, unable to stop smiling as he thought about his awesome boys, his sweet baby girl, and the absolutely amazing woman he got to call his wife.

His chest nearly caved in again as he made his way to Y/N on the bleachers and she beamed a smile up at him. As he stopped in front of her, they shared a greeting before he bent down to give her a quick kiss before taking a seat beside her.

“So, the doctor said she’s ok, huh?” Emmett asked after he sat and then turned to Y/N.

“Yeah, just fine,” Y/N replied with a nod.

“Is that true?” Emmett then said to Sadie, looking at her and then gently taking her from Y/N. He held her up in front of him and gave her a kiss on her chubby little cheek. “How’s my little girl?” he said warmly, and when she gave a squeal of delight, Emmett smiled.

“Why do you have her in the zip-up?” he asked Y/N then as he sat Sadie down on his leg and held her there, noticing she was in the sleep sack they usually only put on her at night.

“Because she’s been kicking her legs around like crazy today, and I didn’t want her to accidentally knock anyone in the back of the head while we sit here,” Y/N said with amusement.

Emmett laughed.

“She never stops moving,” he said.

“I know,” Y/N replied with a smile. “When I picked her up at daycare, they said she’d made it all the way across the room after they’d only turned their backs for a second to get her pacifier.”

“You must be hungry after all that exercise,” Emmett said, looking down at Sadie as he bounced her on his leg. Then he looked back to Y/N. “Did you already feed her?”

“No, I was just about to,” Y/N replied. She reached into the diaper bag and pulled out the full bottle, Emmett then reaching for it. Y/N watched adoringly as he rested Sadie back against his front and began feeding her, quietly speaking to her as he did. Her little hands alternated between waving around and grabbing onto the bottle, Emmett holding it for her in one hand while keeping her steadily upright with the other.

Just as she’d told Jackie, Y/N could never get over seeing Emmett and Sadie together, and she just watched them for several moments, Emmett not even realizing as he looked forward and watched Henry’s game begin while continuing to feed her. Of course, just as he was with the boys, he was an amazing father, and watching him with the baby they’d made together just pushed every single emotional button she had. She felt so fortunate to finally have everything she’d ever wanted, and while the journey they’d been on to get here had been rocky at points, she wouldn’t trade it for anything, the wonderful children and the incredible man she now called her husband making every moment worth it.

With Sadie’s bottle almost empty, Y/N leaned over and lifted the bib around her neck to wipe the dribbled milk from her chin. Looking down, Emmett adjusted the bottle to help her get the last of what was inside.

“You look really sexy right now, you know that?” Y/N said quietly to Emmett as she leaned in closer again to take the empty bottle. “Talk about a DILF.”

Turning his head and looking at her, she could immediately see the heat behind his eyes.

“I thought I told you, you shouldn’t talk that way around children,” he said, pretending to be stern as he replied, his voice low.

“Oh, I’m sorry, I take it back then,” Y/N teased him quietly as she shrugged her shoulders. “After all, you did say you didn’t want a cookie, so I guess I should have known better. Oh well.”

“I never said that,” Emmett replied, then leaned in closer to her neck and spoke even lower in her ear. “In fact, I was thinking how beautiful you look as I was walking up here. But if you’re gonna keep acting like this, then later tonight, I’ll make you sorry you offered that cookie in the first place.”

Y/N leaned into him more.

“Promise?” she said sensually and looked into his eyes again, but they were interrupted when everyone around them started cheering at a ball Henry’s team had just hit, Sadie joining in on the excitement as she squealed loudly and wiggled in Emmett’s grasp. They also suddenly saw Max approaching, running up the bleachers to grab his bottle of sports drink from the diaper bag.

“Count on it,” Emmett said with a raise of his eyebrows, and they quickly kissed before Max reached them.

“Dad, can I have some money for another drink?” Max asked, looking at Emmett.

“That bottle in your hand hasn’t even been opened yet,” Emmett said to him with an amused smile.

“This one’s for Henry. It was the last one we had, and Mom said I could buy my own when we got here.”

Emmett smiled even bigger. He would never get over the happiness he felt in hearing the boys call Y/N “Mom.”

“You mean you and Henry don’t want to share that one?” he asked then, teasing Max.

“Eww! No!” Max replied. “Gross!”

Both Y/N and Emmett laughed, and Emmett passed Sadie over to Y/N and then reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet.

“Did she also tell you that if we buy you a drink now, you have to pay us back double what I give you for it?”

“What?!” Max said, looking up from letting Sadie grab his finger. He then turned his head to Y/N for verification if that was the truth, and she gave him a wink and shook her head, making Emmett smile at the look of relief on Max’s face.

“Get outta here,” he said to Max fondly as he handed him the money. “Your team’s up next, so you better hurry up if you’re gonna buy that drink.”

After Max had run off again, Y/N spoke, looking down at Sadie and kissing the top of her head as she adjusted her on her lap.

“Daddy’s so mean, isn’t he?” she said teasingly with a smile on her face.

Emmett smiled back, lifting the pacifier clip on Sadie’s zip-up and placing the pacifier in her mouth before looking at Y/N, feigning sympathy as he answered her.

“Sorry, girls,” he said. “You’re stuck with me.”

•.•.•.•.•

“Oh, God, Emmett…fu— ahhh!…Em, please!”

“You better keep it down. Wouldn’t want you to wake up the kids before I let you finish.”

Emmett’s lips skimmed Y/N’s ear and he spoke lowly as he continued stroking her with one hand, his body hovering over hers as his fingers expertly pumped in and out of her and teased her clit while he used his other hand to hold her hip beneath him. When he slipped his thumb to her crown and massaged her bud again, Y/N tried to contain her whimper as her hand flew up and she roughly grabbed the back of Emmett’s head, twisting her fingers in his hair and pulling his face to hers.

As their lips connected, Emmett groaned, feeling the tug of Y/N’s fingers and the desperation in her kiss as she thrusted up against his hand. He deepened the kiss and stroked her again when she lowered her hands down his front and ran them up his bare chest.

“Then make me finish,” Y/N breathed out as their lips parted, and she reached down between them. But just as her palm was about to wrap around his cock, Emmett grabbed her wrist and stopped her.

“I was the only one promised a cookie tonight, princess,” he said, tormenting her. “Whether or not you get yours depends on how generous I’m feeling.” He stroked her again and she had to bite his shoulder, and Emmett had to stifle his own volume when he felt her teeth on his skin.

“Em…” she moaned again as she opened her mouth and arched off the mattress. “Please! I need you!”

Her desperate begging never failed to drive him crazy, and Emmett groaned as their lips met again. As Y/N wrapped her arms around his neck and whined as she felt his cock brush against her, Emmett gripped her leg under her knee and pushed her leg upwards, opening her up to him as their lips parted. Looking down at her, their eyes met, and Y/N ran her hand through his hair again as he spoke.

“I’m right here, baby,” he said lovingly, his voice suddenly gentle.

When Y/N looked up at him, her heart skipped a beat, and then her eyes were squeezed shut seconds later as the amazing bliss of Emmett filling her rippled through her body.

Right before he felt the insane pleasure of slipping inside her, Emmett caught the look in Y/N’s eyes, and it mirrored exactly how he felt.

It was the same adoration that accompanied them every time, each of them relishing in the fact that they’d gotten to where they were and that they had each other. And as each of them thought about what the other had given them, it just solidified the fact that this was how it was supposed to be.

Just as they neared the edge, Y/N lifted her hand to Emmett’s face, stroking his jaw as she pulled away from his lips and met his eyes.

“I love you so much,” she said to him softly.

Emmett’s heart pounded.

“I love you so much,” he said, shaking his head and brushing her hair off her cheek. “Completely perfect.”

Later on, they were still basking in the afterglow in the dark room when Y/N heard Emmett chuckle behind her.

“What?” she asked him quietly, the curious amusement evident in her voice.

“Nothing,” Emmett replied, the smile obvious in his voice as well. “I was just thinking about how ironic it is that you went from throwing bottles at my head, to marrying me and we now have a 6-month-old daughter.”

Rolling over and giving him a smile, Y/N giggled before she replied.

“I was actually thinking the exact same thing earlier today,” she said. “But may I remind you that you weren’t always a dream neighbor, either? I believe it was you who woke me up every Saturday at 7:00 a.m. with your lawn mower.”

Emmett smiled.

“Yeah, and after that particular morning, I wasn’t sure what had me more annoyed: the fact that you were throwing trash at me, or the fact that that nightgown of yours wasn’t completely see-through.”

Y/N giggled again.

“Well, if you still have lingering frustration about that, we can find some trash for you to throw at me tomorrow, and then we’ll call it even,” she said.

Emmett grinned.

“I think I’ll get up extra early and mow the lawn instead.”

“You could,” Y/N replied, scooting even closer to him as Emmett wrapped his arm around her waist. “But that’s not really gonna be an effective form of revenge.”

“Why not?” Emmett asked amusedly.

Smiling, Y/N leaned in and gave him a small kiss before she answered.

“Because now, because of what it caused, the noise of a lawn mower is pretty much my favorite sound in the whole world.”

Laughing then, Emmett shifted, unable to do anything other than smile as he wrapped his arm more tightly around Y/N and then leaned in to kiss her once more.

Yes, he thought, this was definitely how it was supposed to be.

Paradise (Alfie Solomons x Fem!OC)

Paradise (Alfie Solomons X Fem!OC)

Alfie Solomons x Rose Coldwell (ofc) (Masterlist)

Summary: Alfie and Rose finally have a free day to enjoy themselves. The countryside is a good option, away from London and the noisy city. That willow tree seems to be perfect. Two teenagers in love, alone, eating pies surrounded by grass, ducks and a beautiful stream. Although Mother Nature decided that these little bugs were part of the landscape, too.

Warnings: Bugs -> 🐜🐝. || Fluff. || I invented Alfie's mom's name.

Words: 2.6k

This is the little memory I mentioned when I wrote this letter (part of this event) but you don't need to read to understand this. But, if you want to read much better. Also @call-sign-shark I used some things from your letter here.

Paradise (Alfie Solomons X Fem!OC)

1905

"If you touch anything in that basket I'll cut your hand off, Samuel!"

Seventeen-year-old Rose Coldwell was pacing back and forth in her house, preparing for a date with her boyfriend, Alfie. After more than two weeks they could finally spend a whole day together and, more importantly, alone.

Her mother scolded her.

"I'm just saying!" the girl said, looking at her brother.

"Like you guys are going to eat everything," replied the 12-year-old boy, closing the lid of the basket again, "you're going to snog all the time. Frankly, it's disgusting."

"You don't understand anything, Samuel. Don't you have homework to do?" she asked, but she felt her cheeks burning. Her middle brother wasn't so wrong after all.

"Yes, but I'd rather bother you."

"Mom, have you considered giving him up for adoption?"

Samuel stuck his tongue out at his sister before grabbing his book and pencil "No one would want me. I'd make life impossible for whoever adopts me just to come back here and bother you. Although I'd rather be adopted than have to listen to you 'oh, Alfie! I love you, Alfie! You're my love, Alfie! Oh, kiss me, Alfie!' " Samuel had clasped his hands together under his chin as he blinked repeatedly, tuning his voice to imitate his sister.

Mary Coldwell, the mother, could do nothing but laugh. So did little seven-year-old Louis.

"Go to hell, Sam," Rose said, wagging her middle finger at him.

The boy didn't respond, but kept smiling. Teasing his big sister was definitely his favourite pastime. In the not too distant future, he would defend her with all his heart, but now he was happy to make her life miserable.

Earlier that morning, Alfie had given her several plates of different cakes that he had baked the night before. She had carefully put them away in the basket her mother had given her. Rose put in two canteens of juice and some fruit she had stolen from the Evert mansion where she worked.

Before putting on her bonnet and finally leaving, she walked over to her little brother and wiped his face, "Don't make Mom mad, okay, Lou? And if Samuel provokes you, don't listen to him."

"I'm right here! I can hear you, you know?" Samuel looked up from his book to look at her.

"I know, that's why I told him." Then he turned to the youngest of the family again, "Did you hear me, Lou?"

"Yes, Rosie. Have a nice time with Alfie."

"Thanks, Lou." Rose then turned back to Samuel, "And you, keep an eye on the house, ok? Don't break anything and if you're going to play outside do it carefully."

Then, opening the basket she took out an apple pie and handed it to him. "Share it with Louis. And with mum, ok?

Samuel's smile was huge and Rose couldn't help but smile too. Her teenage brother was a nightmare, but she loved him. Finally she walked over to her mother and hugged her, "You'll be alright?"

"Yes. Go with Alfie and enjoy the nice day, you deserve it, dear," Mary said to her, as she hugged her, she whispered "take care of yourself...and tell him to look after you. We don't want a mini Solomons just yet."

"Mum!" now Rose was completely blushingm

"Rose..."

"All right. Yes, we'll be careful."

Turning away from her mother and taking the basket, Rose finally left her house. Her mother's words had made her blush. How did her mother know? It had been just under a year since she and Alfie had shared their first night together. But she hadn't told anyone. Whenever they were together it was always at his house when his mother was at work or asleep and they were extremely careful not to make a sound. Had Alfie's mum suspected and told hers? Rose didn't want to think about it. How would she now manage to see Alfie on the few nights they could share knowing that his mum knew what she was doing? Rose blushed again. It hadn't occurred to the girl that her mother had been young too. Or that Mary Coldwell knew her daughter well enough to know what had happened.

Rose forced herself not to think about it. Alfie was waiting for her at the end of the street with a bag slung over his shoulder and a smile on his face. He gave her a kiss as soon as they were close.

"I had a morning to forget," she said taking his hand as they both started walking. "Samuel is a nightmare and my mother...don't get me started on my mother. God, I need to forget everything."

"That's what I'm for. Today, my beautiful Rosie, we will have a wonderful date that will make you forget all your troubles."

"That's all I need."

A man who worked in the same bakery as Alfie had offered to drive both teenagers to the countryside and would pick them up in the evening when he returned to the city. That way the young couple would have several hours to be alone and finally enjoy the day off they both had.

Having left the chaos of London behind them, he and she finally arrived in the countryside. A little over an hour later, the man called Charles stopped his cart.

"Wait for me by the side of the road before the sun goes down, Alfie. If you're not there I'll go alone and you'll have to see what excuse you can make to your girl's family," he warned.

"Yes, Charlie. We'll be here."

"Right."

Without saying goodbye, the man jerked the horses' reins and rode away, raising a cloud of dirt around the young couple.

"What a kind man," Rose commented, rolling her eyes.

"It's not personal, sweetheart. Charlie's grumpy with everyone. But he's the one who told me about this place. It's beautiful and there's no one here but you and me."

Alfie was right. Except for the local wildlife there was no one. The day could not have been more ideal. From cloudless blue skies to a perfect temperature, everything indicated that he and she would be able to enjoy each other's company until the sun went down.

Perhaps it was too perfect. Mother Nature had other plans for the young lovers.

.

The willow tree whose branches touched the stream was a perfect spot. Alfie laid the tablecloth his mother had given him on the grass while she took off her shoes to make herself more comfortable. Alfie glanced sideways at her as she walked over to the water and dipped her toes into the water which was clearly cold. He couldn't help but smile. The dress she wore swayed in the wind and without her bonnet, the sun reflected off her brown hair.

Considering that his father impregnated every woman he could find, including his mother, that he'd fallen in love like that was certainly a miracle. Alfie believed that part of his being, that he wanted to be a powerful and feared London gangster was because his father's rotten blood ran through his veins. But when he looked at Rose, he knew that the gentleness that came over him was because Svetlana Volkóva, his mother, was part of him, too. And fortunately for Rose when Alfie stood beside her, the rotten part of Alfred Solomons Sr. that Alfie had inherited, did not exist.

"There are ducks!" she exclaimed, approaching him again. "Looks like they decided today was a good day to be here too."

He laughed "and I wanted privacy..." Alfie grabbed her by the waist and pulled her closer to him "I suppose they won't mind if we..."

"Alfie, please don't say it! My mother created a trauma for me today."

"What the hell happened to your mother?"

Rose looked up at him as he still held her waist. She could feel his fingers moving on her back. "She implied to me that she knew that we already... you know. 'We don't want a mini Solomons yet' she told me. God, Alfie! She knows! Now every time I look at her I'm going to be thinking she knows I'm sleeping with you."

"So what? This is the 20th century! It's out of fashion to come to marriage pure, sweetheart. Maybe the most conservative people still believe in it, but it's not going to last. It's time to stop seeing it as taboo."

"I don't see it as taboo, Alfie. You well know I'm all for women's liberation and that includes sex, but it's embarrassing for your mother to tell you that. Couldn't she have kept quiet?"

"You're a fucking treasure. I don't know how many girls could say the word sex without blushing. I'm a lucky fucking boy, ain't I? Forget about it, okay? Your mother just wants you to be okay. Come on, let's sit down and forget about it. That's what we came for."

She had to agree with him. Sitting on the tablecloth, sheltered under the willow tree from the sun that was shining ever brighter, the two of them began to eat as they talked and laughed. He was telling her about the problems the bakery was having, starting with the owner, surnamed Terry, who despite having given Alfie work for the last three years, still refused to give him a significant raise. And Alfie was the one who was in charge of serving the people and also baking. At one point they both started laughing loudly when they suggested that the old baker and old Evert, who owned the house where she worked, should become a couple.

"It would be horrifying. Terry's not bad enough to deserve Lady Evert."

"He's a fucking bastard. It wouldn't hurt him to be with someone worse than him."

"You're going to be worse than him when you're in charge of your... 'bakery'" Rose said, air-quoting

"I'm not denying it. There's only one way to keep control and that's for everyone to know who's in charge. But unlike Terry, I'm going to be the most loyal boss and husband of all."

"Lucky your wife..."

"Lucky me," he replied kissing her. Taking his face in her hands, she responded to the kiss and put up no resistance as he laid her down on the tablecloth. All around were the pie and a half-eaten piece of fruit. In that moment and in all the minutes that followed, nothing existed for the young couple but the two of them.

.

Rose was the first to feel a tickle that had nothing to do with what had just happened between her and Alfie. Still in his arms, she shook her leg to get rid of the sensation but to no avail. She wanted to focus on Alfie and his kisses, but she couldn't. Then she felt a twinge.

"Ouch!" Rose finally decided to see what was happening. She had several ants walking up and down her leg and one of them had stung her. She waved them away, that made Alfie pay attention too.

"Fuck!" the boy stood up pulling up his trousers and looking around. The cake and fruit they had left there were completely covered in ants. Not dozens, hundreds of them taking over the food and having their own picnic.

"Bastards! Yeah! You bastards!" he exclaimed, trying to push the insects away from the food. He only succeeded in making them cling harder and sting his fingers.

"Not the pumpkin pie..." she wailed. "Damn it!"

"Uh! Fucking hell! Look at the delicious pear you brought me... it's missing."

There was nothing that could be done. It was impossible to eat that and it was even more impossible to stay there. Alfie shook the tablecloth hard near the stream, hoping that several of them would drown or be eaten by ducks.

Rose had seen another willow tree and they walked towards it. It was less plentiful than the other and further away from the stream, but it was pretty all the same. Alfie was grumpy. This was not how he expected to spend the day with his girlfriend. Until the ant problem had been fantastic, including making love to her. But those cunts had ruined the moment after that.

Maybe now he could relax a bit under the new tree. He put the tablecloth back and they both sat down together.

"It's all right, Alfie, it was just a stupid pear and your delicious pie. I'm sure you can bake another."

"But we're not going to enjoy it here."

"No, but we can find somewhere else."

The boy nodded. At least they still had the honey and bread. She rested her head on his shoulder as they ate in silence. He kissed her forehead. Alfie thought he could be like this all his life he wouldn't care. When Rose sought his lips, he reciprocated. Now she tasted like honey. Alfie was ready to be with her a second time, if she wanted him to.

Bzzzz.

If it wasn't for those flies buzzing in his ears... Fucking flies, Alfie thought, stroking her neck while kissing her.

Bzzzz.

Rose opened one eye as she heard the buzzing getting louder and louder and closer to her ear. And then she screamed.

There were bees everywhere and they were angry. This time neither he nor she had any reaction but to run. Only Alfie managed to grab the tablecloth knowing that if he lost it his mother would kill him, but the rest of their things remained all under the second willow tree, including Rose's shoes. The two teenagers ran until their lungs ached. Alfie was in a bad mood again. But that was until he heard her laugh.

Disheveled, barefoot and almost out of breath, Rose was laughing, resting her hands on her knees.

"Oh my God! We're going to remember this day for the rest of our lives."

Alfie had no intention of laughing, he was still angry at the ants, the bees and now he also resented the ducks even though they hadn't done anything to them. But seeing her laugh made him start to smile too, and he joined in her laughter.

Hours later, Old Charlie found them cuddling on a tablecloth by the side of the road. Alfie was sitting behind her, wrapping his arms around her, while Rose was between his legs.

"Why are you barefoot, girl?" asked the man.

"We were attacked by a swarm of bees," she explained. "My shoes were left under that willow tree and under no circumstances do I intend to go looking for them again. Alfie neither."

"And you have another pair?"

"Yes. An older one and I can borrow another from my mother or..."

Old Charlie sighed. Young people. That generation was lost. It was he who went down to the creek to fetch them, he could bring Alfie's bag too. Not so the basket floating in the middle of the stream. The ducks had carried it there. They both thanked the man. He was grumpy, but he also showed himself to be a good man.

The ride back to London was silent. Rose had fallen asleep on him and he held her against him.

Alfie looked out over the landscape that was turning orange with the sunset. The willow tree looked smaller and smaller in the distance. The sun was streaming through its branches, Alfie couldn't take his eyes off it. After all, it had been an unforgettable day. Once again, she was right.

Alfie thought that if paradise existed, it had to be that place. That landscape with the willow tree whose branches touched the stream plus the girl sleeping in his arms, that was his paradise.

Perhaps that was why twenty-one years in the future, while his body struggled to remain in this world, his mind would transport him back under that willow tree to that day which, although he did not believe it now, had been one of the most beautiful he had ever lived.

Hey! I Was Wondering If You Would Do A Comfort Fix With Tommy Shelby, Where The Reader Gets Kidnapped
Hey! I Was Wondering If You Would Do A Comfort Fix With Tommy Shelby, Where The Reader Gets Kidnapped

You were surrounded by loud music and laughter. Colours swirling around the room and drinks sloshing. You were enjoying a dance with Esme, after a few more twirls and a dirty comment from John you both were laughing too hard to keep up with the song. Moving back to the booth you looked around and everyone's rosy faces made your heart swell a little bit. Somehow you managed to work your way into the circle as an honorary member of the family.

Though Polly and Esme teased you that it was Tommy’s interest in you that made him agree to it. He had specifically told you it was because you had an irreplaceable set of skills and that you had proven your loyalty to the family. You knew deep down you wished it was something more than that, but Tommy was a very difficult man to be involved with. These were thoughts that should be considered while sober. Or at least alone. You were too drunk to feel the pain in your feet, or the tiredness of your muscles. It had been a long week, no better way to end it really, but still everything had caught up with you and a warm bed sounded much more appealing than another round of drinks. Arthur had started on one of his stories you’d heard a hundred times and you decided it was best to leave.

“I'm going to head home” You whispered to Esme. She gave you a small pout.

“Alright love, get home safe. I’ll tell the others after the story is over” She kissed your cheek and you got up from the table without anyone noticing. You stepped out and enjoyed the chilly air on your flushed skin, lighting a cigarette you made your way down the street.

Suddenly you were grabbed from behind, immediately you started elbowing and screaming. The large man pulled you towards a parked car. You cursed your delayed responses, but you didn't give up. He pushed you against the side of the car and you head butted him, he fell back taking your favorite stand of pearls with him. You tried to run, but three men pulled you into the back seat. Next thing you knew the car was moving and you were being tied up.

__________________________________________________

Tommy finally made his way out of the snug, irritated by another pointless meeting. His eyes started scanning the place looking for you. As soon as he stopped hearing your loud laugh, he rushed the meeting along.

“Where’s Y/N” Everyone looked around.

“She’s left, and I don’t blame her, if i have to hear one more story ab-” He didn't wait for Esme to finish before running out the door trying to catch up with you. A slight acidic feeling washing over his stomach at the thought of you walking home alone. He’d scold the others later for letting you go. He didn't need to see you to know how drunk you were, he could tell by how loudly you were laughing at John's low brow jokes.

Walking around the corner he saw a man with a busted nose laying on the ground, still breathing. His hand was wrapped around your handbag, pearls scattered on the pavement sparkling in the moonlight.

--------------------------------------------------------------

You woke up on a cold floor in a dimly lit concrete room. You refused to outwardly show any signs of distress, despite the urge to start crying. You laid there mind spinning, trying to think of who had taken you, what their accents were, how you fought.

Your body curled inward when you realized that no one would notice that you were gone till everyone stumbled into the shop tomorrow.

Eventually you heard the door to the room unlock. You sat up and a tall, well dressed man strode into the room. He kneeled down in front of you and grabbed your jaw roughly. He smelled heavily of cologne and smoke, there was something wrong with his hazel eyes that you couldn't quite place.

“You are going to tell me everything about Thomas Shelby.” He had a funny sounding english accent you refused to be intimidated by.

“Oh piss off. Why would I do that?” your question was answered by a hard slap across your face. He stood up and walked back towards the door.

“Because, if you don't. You won't make it out of here alive.” He snapped his fingers disappearing into the hallway. Two men came into the room and picked you up by the arms. You knew that there was no point in trying to fight the tight grip they had on your arms, they dragged you through the narrow hallway. Eventually bringing you into what seemed like a meat cellar. There were lots of ominous looking chains with hooked ends hanging down from the ceiling. A chair was sitting in the middle of the room and they roughly pushed you down into it.

“Now that we understand each other. I know lots about you, love.” The man circled you like a wolf. “You are Mr. Shelby’s right hand man, you keep all the books, oversee all the accounts, and you know about all his other side ventures. Some people say the only thing that's missing is a ring on your finger.”

“Some people are idiots. I'm a secretary, if they think that's a glamorous and powerful position, perhaps you should strive to entertain better company.” Despite your discomfort, you were pleased that your tone didn't show it. His soft hand met the side of your face again causing your cheek to sting. You wondered if those manicured hands had ever actually done this before.

“Shshsh - don't lie to me sweetheart.” he grabbed your jaw again, his voice made your stomach heave. “Perhaps you're too smart, you know too much. I'll make it nice and easy on you, narrow it down. All I really need to know about are the Walsh accounts, and the three bodies dumped in the cut last week.”

You rolled your eyes. Of course this would be about that. It’s not your problem that they’d given up their account and three of their so-called “best men” to try and move in on an arrangement Tommy had made with some French gang. They were lucky that Tommy left the body count at three.

“Why would I know about that? I didn’t take any calls about murdering folks, and I certainly didn't put it in his day schedule. Have you thought that perhaps you've taken the wrong woman?”

He gave you a questioning look.

“What’s your name?”

“Lizzie Stark” You lied easily. He strode out of the room angrily, you knew that it would be worse when he came back. But hopefully it bought you some time…. Hopefully someone was looking for you.

____________________________________

Tommy was also in a cellar.

“Where is she?” He delivered another blow to the man's stomach. The man's head rolled back, his eyes barely able to open. But still no information.

Arthur grabbed Tommy’s arm and he pulled him back into the hallway.

“You push him any further, you’ll kill him and we won't get her back.” Tommy had half a mind to punch him, but meeting his eyes he could see that he was right. Everyone was a mess over her being taken, Arthur wasn't going to let him ruin their chances. He tried to focus on his breathing, but his heart hasn't stopped racing and twisting since he knew you were gone. Suddenly Esme was there in the small hallway squaring up with him, her big brown eyes furious.

“Thomas let me see him!” Tommy thought about it for a second, John came and started pulling her down the hallway, both of them yelling. “Thomas please I might know him.” She called out over John’s protests.

“Alright. Alright! Go see him, Jesus.” He just wanted her to shut up. John gave him a peculiar look, but it wasn't as if she didn't know what the family did. Nothing in that room should surprise her, they both went back inside.

Tommy thought of you out there on your own and he put his head back to rest on the wall, taking a long drag of his cigarette.

For the first time since the war he prayed.

__________________________________________________

After what must have been an hour or so, the angry man came back into the room.

“Lizzy or Y/N it doesn't matter, my people are sure you know about the murders, and the deal with the French” He stepped closer to you. “Apparently I haven't been forceful enough. Stand up.”

Next thing you know, despite your protests they had you up in the air hanging from the cling by your tied hands like an animal. Your shoulders and wrists ached, but it didn't compare to the pain of his first landing on your stomach. Over and over, he punched you, stopping finally when you couldn't breathe anymore.

“Tell me!” He yelled. Air could barely reach your lungs, talking was out of the question. You couldn't even bring yourself to open your eyes, tears were streaming down your face. You were so angry, your body would be broken over what? Information about a certain British politician. You choked out an angry sob, what an embassarsingly stupid thing to die over. But you knew what the information was, and this was the only way to protect your family. If you let it slip they would be the ones to pay the price. Knowing that you were dying for them took the anger away, you could go at peace knowing you did right by the people that loved you.

He started again and you felt your ribs break, the feeling sent a spasm through your body. You knew now that this was how it was going to end. The pain was too much for you to last the whole night like this. And he didn't let up. Your dress was undone exposing your back, only for it to be met with a whip. Your brain was sliding all over the place, between strokes you suddenly thought back to Curly, grateful he never let anyone whip the horses.

Heat was sliding off your back and down your legs. The feeling of pain suddenly became slippery, coming and going as it pleased. Sensations were dulling. You opened your eyes and looked at the mess on the floor. That mess was yours, it was supposed to be kept inside you, it didn't belong on some asshole's dirty floor. You closed your eyes and knew that was the last time you’d open them.

__________________________________________________

“Tommy!” John called and he blew the door open.

“He says they have her in an abandoned slaughterhouse on the other side of town.” Before asking what the hell she did, he turned on his heel and ran down the hallway. He could hear his brother's footsteps behind him. They rushed into the car, and tore down the driveway.

“She was rushing around after Polly, getting the boys out on the street looking for her, when she realized where she’d seen him before. His wife is a regular at the bath house, he meets her out front. Brutal man, but a man with two kids. She threatened him and cut a deal he goes free with no damage to the kids.”

Tommy scoffed. Like that was going to happen, that man was as good as dead and so helped anyone that stood in his way. No one hurt you, and got to go on untouched.

“Trust me Tommy, I'm pretty sure she loves Y/N more than she loves me. As soon as she’s home, Esme says he’s dead.” John patted him on the back. “She’s called back to the house, Polly’s sent others to meet us there.”

__________________________________________________

You had retreated so far inside yourself you weren't really sure what they were doing now. It was a stupid thing to stress over, but you couldnt decide what you wanted your last thought to be about.

You thought of your parents, and how you grew up, them abandoning you at 16 over refusing a sex contract with a high up military officer, ruled them out. You thought of Polly, taking you in and teaching you how to be a woman, Arthur teaching you how to fight, John was always around to make you laugh or teach you how to gamble and drink. Esme becoming your closest friend, you doubted anyone would be able to find sisters as close as the two of you were. You thought about all of them grieving you, and you suddenly wished you’d said good night at the party, just one last round of hugs.

Then you thought about Tommy, he’d without a doubt be the last thing you’d want to see before you went. Those big eyes.

Shots rang out and you’d assumed they were for you, still your eyes stayed closed. You didn't feel like you’d been shot, but maybe that's how it was. You assumed you would start to peel out of this body, but the pain didn't leave, no white lights. Someone hauled your body down, your tired arms fell around someone's neck. Opening your eyes you saw those big blue eyes, wide with fear, you wanted to comfort him. You thanked whatever god let your brain conjure up this Tommy Shelby holding you tightly before you died.

“CALL A FOOKIN AMBULANCE” Arthur screamed, you realised you could hear again.

“Stay with me love. That’s it, come back.” Tommy coaxed you with such a soft tone. Pressing his forehead against yours, you took a deep breath that caused pain to radiate through your body only to realize that it smelled of cigarettes, whiskey, and Tommy.

This was real. They got you. A crushing force was applied to your back forcing you against his chest.

Suddenly you were aware of everything. Your legs had been cut and you were straddling his lap on the floor in a pool of blood, with your tied arms around his neck. John was putting all his strength on the wounds on your back. Arthur was swearing at someone loudly in the hallway, bodies lined the floor of the room. You heard Tommy praying in Romani, kissing the side of your head.

“I’m sorry” You choked out. “Mm gonna fall s’leep”

“Not yet, you stay with us, love” Tommy said in your ear. You’d hope his prayers were enough to hold you to this earth, but in case it didn't you still had enough inside yourself to tell him the truth.

“I didn't tell him anything.” You whispered

“I know love.” you swore you could feel his tears sliding into your hair.

“Tommy, I love you.” His arms tightened, and you felt him sob.

“Come on, none of that. Your going to be fucking fine. Esme will kill us all with Polly’s help if we let you slip away now.” John said pressing harder on your back causing the pain to spark. You closed your eyes and listened to Tommy’s soft words, grateful that Esme had taught you the language. You rested your head on his shoulder and enjoyed what you could feel of his embrace.

Everything after that was in and out. You remember people pulling you away from him, and John puking in the corner of the room. Tommy demanding he stay with you at all times. More wicked threats if anything happened to you. Then you were gone.

__________________________________________________

You woke up in a large bed. Tommy’s bed… You looked around without daring to move, you saw Polly by the fire preparing something.

“Tommy she’s up.” You wanted to ask her how she knew, without looking over. Tommy rose from the armchair beside her and he came to kneel beside the bed. You wanted him closer, badly enough that you forgot moving wasn't a good idea. You let out a moan of pain.

“Don’t move, love. Just stay still, it's alright your home now.” He kissed your forehead and you tried to blink the tears out of your eyes. He brushed the tears off your cheeks, looking you over.

“We have to change your bandages, do you want me to go to Esme instead?” You softly shook your head, gripping his hand with as much force as you could, you wanted him as close as possible. “It’s okay dove, I’m not going anywhere.”

Tommy picked you up out of the bed, and you tried not to wince, he carried you over to the edge of the tub in the bathroom. Sitting you down while holding you up, he started taking off your bandages. You suddenly wished this wasn't the first time he was undressing you, you were still too tired to be upset about it. Grateful for the slight brushes of his fingers reminding you that you’d survived.

“You sure you don't want me to wake Esme love?”

“No, I just want you.” Your voice cracked and your eyes were watery, your heart wrenching. He gave you another soft kiss on the forehead and got the rest of the bandages off. He ran the water for the bath and Polly came through dumping strange herbs in the water. She made him turn around while she got the rest of you undressed and settled into the water draping a towel over your front for some level of modesty.

You enjoyed the feeling of the water, the herbs making your head swim slightly. He sat on the floor, his arm came across your body, giving you something to lean against. You could feel the worry and pain in Polly’s voice as she talked about your wounds. She told you about your ribs, and that your back would probably scar but she’d hope she would be able to minimize it.

“Do you want the rest of the news now?” You could tell by the tone of her voice it was a woman’s topic.

“Go on” Your heart sank, you were never sure if you’d wanted kids but it sounds like someone had made the choice for you.

“They said your organs were pretty battered but there might be a chance you’d be able to have kids, but it's slim.” You felt her heart break for you. The words cut through you despite already knowing. You started sobbing, angry that your body had paid the price for such horrible secrets. Tommy pulled you to the edge of the tub, his big arms held you against his chest. Polly got up giving you some space. You cried and yelled about how you hoped the bastard rotted in hell. Tommy assured you that they ripped them all apart. The information had passed hands, people and repercussions should be dealt out by the end of the week clearing them of the situation.

“Y/N can you forgive me.” you pulled away to look into his eyes, never in your time with the Shelby’s had you seen him look so distressed.

“I don’t blame you. It was the right thing to do. Now he will lose the party, people won't get hurt.” It was hard to get the sentence out in between sobs.

“I love you.” He whispered, almost appearing alarmed by his own words. “I’ll keep you safe.”

“I know.” He kissed you and you cursed the fact that your body had limitations. The kiss was heavenly, and consuming. Better than the opium that was coursing through your veins. Polly came back clearing her throat as she entered the room. The kiss was broken, but the fire in his eyes assured you it would be one of many to come.

“Tommy Shelby, keep your hands off her. I expect a full recovery, I'm not having you jeopardizing it.”

You finished up in the bathroom and once fully bandaged you were back in his bed, wrapped in his arms.

Polly floated out of the room once you were content, reminding Tommy again that you were a work in process and high on opium.

You listened to his heart beating, and his chest rising and falling. He removed one of his arms to lit a cigarette.

“How long was I out?”

“Just a night and a day, they let you out once bandaging you up and controlling the bleeding, it's round 10pm now.”

You let out a hum.

“Tommy?” You wanted to know for sure that you were a proper thing now.

“Yes, love” He took a long drag of his cigarette.

“What are we?”

“Well you're mine now. No one’s going to touch you again, not while I'm alive.” His voice was dark and it made you crave him. He put out his cigarette, bringing his hand to gently cradle your face towards him.

“I mean it Y/N, no one else. Just me.”

“It's not like I wanted anyone else anyway.” you said softly, enjoying the flash of emotion on his face. He kissed you again softly, you wanted him so badly a whine escaped your throat.

“Shhh, love there's lots of time for that when you're better, and sober. You need to rest.” You saw the restraint in his eyes, but you also saw the dark circles under his eyes, and the paleness of his skin.

“Have you slept?”

“No.”

You tried to sit up and see that he was okay. He probably had to fight his way into the building, had he been injured? What about the others?

“None of that.” He snapped holding you in place. “Everyone is fine, I'm fine. You need to let us look after you this time. Alright?”

You nodded. And settled back in his arms letting out a breath of relief.

“Good, now stay like that and maybe we’ll both sleep through the night.” He got up and started getting ready for bed. Just as he finished arranging the blankets there was a knock at the door. Esme’s head poked through the door and you could feel Tommy’s reluctance to let her see you. She sat on the edge of the bed and held your hand tightly. You were happy to see her, but alarmed at her sickly appearance much like Tommy’s.

“Oh love, I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have let you go home alone.” Tears streamed down her face.

“It's no one's fault.” You squeezed her hand. “It's okay, Polly said I’d be back at it in no time” You saw her eyes fall to your stomach, and more tears fell. She looked you over and quickly composed herself.

“You're right, you're going to be just fine. We can talk about everything else when you're up. You need to rest, I'm down the hall if you need anything just yell.” She leaned in and whispered in your ear “You're okay to stay with him yeah?” for the first time you felt a smile creep onto your face. “I'll take that as a yes then?”

You nodded at her and she gave you a wink. She kissed your cheek and gave you one last look over. The interaction reminded you that you’ve got a life to get back to. She quickly turned on Tommy.

“You look after her.” She gave him a fierce look. “And if you need anything, come get me. Both of you go to sleep.” She floated out of the room and Tommy got ready for bed. He crawled back into place holding you tightly.

“Tommy?” He hummed in response.

“Are you going to be here in the morning?” Normally the two of you would start at the shop around 5am.

“I’m not leaving your side till you can manage on your own, and shoot a gun. Till then you're stuck with me.” He gave you a light squeeze. You nuzzled into him and for a brief moment you wondered if perhaps you had died and gone to heaven.
