I will die on the hill that Luigi has the ability to be stronger than Mario (and not just because of his higher jump), but is too nice to unlock that power. Luigi is destined for greatness— evil DIABOLICAL greatness, but greatness nonetheless. Yet, he decides it's better to just be a kind person and great brother instead.

actually i totally think luigi was destined for evil but then decided to say No Thank You. he has all the trappings for a villain (magically adept, ostracized, LITERALLY THE PERSON A PROPHECY ABOUT LIGHT/DARK HINGES UPON AND COULD’VE VERY EASILY CHOSEN TO DESTROY EVERYTHING, etc.) but he simply chooses to be good. the world keeps throwing corruption arcs at him and he just goes home. the eldritch abomination of the week tells him it can sense darkness within him and he beats it up while crying
