Wait how is the unit dating controversy gay, I thought it was the one where they messed up on the date in the pertwee era

“why is doctor who so woke now it’s so forced” tell me you’re privileged enough to always see yourself in media without telling me

casual diversity and representation is SO important

and doctor who does this so well

sure, the whole assuming meaps pronouns thing was a little cringe, but they fucking did it and that is HUGE

they made a whole episode plot based around a amab non-binary black girl (YES, NOT GENDERLESS NONBINARY, IT WAS A GENDERED NONBINARY PERSON!! AHHHH!!!!!!)

multiple of the doctor’s companions have been queer, and the doctor 15th doctor is gender nonconforming and technically doesn’t have a gender!

plus, all of the characters that are canonically queer in the show are played by queer actors!!

the doctor is into guys now so HELL YEAH?!!!!

and one of the first scenes we get of the 15th doctor is him dancing in a club wearing a skirt. AND HES BLACK. AND THE ACTOR IS GAY. AND ITS NOT EVEN MENTIONED OR SHOVED IN YOUR FACE. ITS CASUAL, JUST LIKE REAL QUEER PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!

ruby sunday is a fostered girl who’s mother is a black lesbian!!!

the maestro is SO fucking queer and uses they/them pronouns without it even being mentioned!!! people just use they/them!!!!!

and a background character in 73 yards is a guy wearing eyeshadow and i LOVE HIM??!! and also they mention lesbians multiple times in the devils chord which i love

this show makes me feel so seen and safe. there are people like me out there!!! and it’s so amazing that they’re finally being shown on TV!!!!

I think it was mentioned at one point that Gertrude was intentionally making the filing system more complicated than it needed to be in order to hide things from Elias

The way TMA does case numbers is so annoying to me because the majority of them follow the yyyddmm format right? Tim and Jon even have a conversation about it in Boatswains Call.

An excerpt from Boatswain's Call's transcript where the Archivist says: "Last three digits of the year, then the day, then the month. I don’t know why she did it like that, but I can’t change it now."

BUT! Not all case numbers follow this rule. Episodes 10, 16, 39-48, 56, 79, 80, 90, 98, and 134 have their case numbers formatted as yyymmdd in their descriptions.

Now, you might just wave this off as the out of universe episode descriptions being incorrect and thus these are not the true numbers. However, some of these yyymmdd case numbers are mentioned in the episodes. Take Body Builder and Light's Out for instance:

An excerpt from Body Builder's transcript where Martin says: "Martin Blackwood, Archival Assistant at the Magnus Institute, recording statement number 0130807, statement of Ross Davenport, given August 7th 2013."
An excerpt from Lights Out's transcript where Martin says: "Martin Blackwood, Archival Assistant at the Magnus Institute, recording statement number 8640514. Statement of Doctor Algernon Moss, given May 14th 1864."

So canonically, statements in the archives are numbered using both yyyddmm and yyymmdd. Isn't that maddening???

Another things about case numbers, statements with unrecorded dates seem to follow the pattern of ###-U. MAG085 (Upon the Stair) is #376-U and MAG113 (Breathing Room) is #571-U. Likely the numbers are the order that the undated statements were received, so Upon the Stair would be the 376th undated statement received, with the U standing for undated.

Something else that I noticed that was fun was that MAG105 (Total War) has a completely unique case number: #D-1682-143. Because it's from the The Pu Songling Research Centre it doesn't follow the same case numbering system that The Magnus Institute does. Fun!

I am super against light pollution, and have been for decades

but I am also super annoyed by the way it's framed as "without light pollution you can see how beautiful the night sky is" way more prominently than it's framed as "hey, did you ever stop to think of how much energy/resources/money are literally wasted by having so much light shine up into the sky?"

so people get the idea that light pollution can only be remedied by eliminating all night-time light, which would make being outside at night very inconvenient, instead of by making night-time light shine only on the ground where, y'know, the people who need it are
