truly think the worst thing about sauron's mindfuckery with celebrimbor is that he keeps making him choose, over and over again, to work with him. he manipulates celebrimbor into keeping the forge open, into making the nine rings despite his concerns, into continuing the work even when it's taking such a toll on him, and the whole time makes celebrimbor agree rather than intimidating or forcing him. he makes celebrimbor feel like this is the right and only thing to be doing. celebrimbor's being manipulated, of course, but when the moment finally comes when he realizes annatar's true nature and feels like he willingly agreed to everything that he was coerced into doing, the guilt is going to be HORRENDOUS

wonder what erik thought of charles when he saw him for the first time after ten yrs in dofp. since charles wasn't going out of the mansion very much i doubt he would've gone to see erik or anything after finding out he was in prison. i personally like to imagine erik had some faith in charles that he wouldn't let him rot there too long bcz despite how they parted there wasn't that intense bitterness that came from charles being abandoned by his sister and erik and most of his school on top of that.

so maybe erik thought charles would come back to him even just to understand and hear him out but when he didn't, he had to come to terms with the fact that charles didn't care about him and sat with that for years with nothing else to think about until charles came back for him. but at that point the accusation from charles that erik abandoned him was so hypocritical (to him) that he started yelling back that, no, it was charles who abandoned erik and left him at the hands of humans instead of coming back for him.
