Me: OMG this codywan fic looks really good, the description is well written and enticing and I love the fact that it’s a slowburn. Let’s check the tags to see if the author hasn’t decided to throw in something so random that I have to cast it into the Dune Sea because I can’t stand that genre.

DAEVABAD TRILOGY QUESTIONS….SPOILERS!

Recently finished. Loved this series, but I had questions tho. I don’t know if I missed the answers in the texts or if it was never explained. If anyone knows, feel free to jump in to answer! Appreciated!….

1. So how was Dara originally “freed”? I know technically he was not released from slavery because he was still bound to the ring even after being resurrected as an original daeva by Manizheh. But in Brass he mentioned that he lied to the King about Khayzur freeing him. He said he only found him wondering around bloody and lost. But how? Without a Nahid to free him or his relic? I was confused about that.

2. Why did the Peris and Marid want him dead so badly? I think I understood the Marid reason: they didn’t want another Nahid rising to power and taking more of their waters (I guess) and they saw Dara as a way for them to accomplish that, thus why they wanted to take him out. But what was the Peri’s deal? All they said was that he was too powerful and an abomination/threat to them of sorts, but Dara seemed to not really give af about them throughout the story, so why would they feel threatened by him enough to intervene?

3. Why was Dara so powerful again? They kept referencing how he was much more powerful than any djinn or ifrit. More power than normal? Was it just power harnessed from the slave ring or some other special quality he had before his first death.

4. Where was Dara taking Nahri when he wanted her to runaway from Daevabad? He mentioned some Daeva allies or something that could protect them outside of the city veil. Was that some reference to Manizheh? Also, did he KNOW about Manizheh? He was staying with Kavah and speaking secretly to Nisreen, and they both in on her plans prior to Copper. Could they have told him or did he only just find out after being resurrected at beginning in book 2?

5. So Manizheh killed Rustam? Or was it the ifrit that did it? Why did she want to kill Nahri as a baby again? Was it just to resurrect Dara?

6. Was that Dara’s relic that was on his wrist? The one from the tomb? I was a little unclear on that. And it was some how stopping the iron from spreading? Wasn’t the relic supposed to free him from slavery too? Then she burned the Nahid ancestors to bring him back too?

7. I know his 3rd body after resurrection was as an original daeva, free of the curse, and because of that he looks like the ifrit or technical is an ifrit (I guess)? Anyway, I know the issue with his 2nd body (in city of brass) was that it was conjured and technically wasn’t“real” so therefore he wasn’t able to bleed, let alone conceive children with Nahri. But what about this now 3rd body? At the end, after he removed all that Frankenstein crap Manizheh put on him, he was technically bleeding, and he said he was restored to the original deava form from beginning of Copper. Is this form more “real” since it bleeds and therefore could it possibly produce children?

8. How did Nahri learn the Divasti song that called Dara? How does that work exactly? They both seemed fuzzy on how or why that worked. Is it to do with his role as an Afshin? Or is it tied to his slave ring?
