INSANITY!! Okay. So long story short. I quit posting about the Caterpillars I was raising back in the fall because they all formed chrysalis’s and then…. Nothing.

Well.. For weeks on end I would check and check and nothing. I took my little bin I was keeping them in, left them on the porch. Assuming the worst, but I couldn’t let it go. I moved away from home back in November.

I visited home last weekend (in February). I walked out on the porch, totally have forgotten about my bin of caterpillars sitting there…. Then my peripheral vision notices something.

I gasped. Loud. Yelled even. Family running to the porch to see what was wrong. But nothing was wrong. I am witnessing a miracle of nature before my very eyes. A BUTTERFLY! An Eastern Swallowtail Butterfly has emerged from its chrysalis! WHAT. It’s been MONTHS and my babies are still alive in there.

So, I learned about what overwintering is.

Due to it being literally winter. (All be it, on the SC coast, not as harsh) I immediately went to buy it some flowers and more for the new Swallowtails. They have free range from in and out the porch, but they need nectar! Thankfully everything is starting to bloom soon.

So anyways. I had to leave again to go back to my apartment, sadly. But thankfully my next door neighbor is a saint and is keeping close eye on the bin and watering the flowers.

These Late Summer Days Have Welcomed Plenty Of Rain, Which Means The Resurrection Ferns Beautifully Cover

These late summer days have welcomed plenty of rain, which means the resurrection ferns beautifully cover these old live oaks. One of my favorite scenes welcomed me as I enjoy the campsite.
