Georgia - Tumblr Posts

I haven't heard people talking about this much, but I feel like it's important for people to know. Especially since SB 63 essentially bans bail funds by not allowing organizations, charities, individuals, or groups to bail out more than three people per year and requiring them to register as bonding agencies.
This is a direct response to all the protests happening here in Atlanta. So far, spreading the word can help as well as donating to The Atlanta Solidarity Fund .
In the meantime, here's some phone numbers of politicians you can go bug.

Brian Kemp (Governor of Georgia): +1-404-656-1776

What's going on right now in the Republic of Georgia / Sakartvelo? A new legislation just passed that official bans - human rights essentially, gay-marriage, gender-firming care and surgery, any 'promotion' of queer identity. Soon after this legislation passed, trans model Kesaria Abramidze was murdered as a direct consequence of this.
Why is this super extra bad? Besides the several many lives at stake, the safety of queer families and the lethality of hate crimes, Georgia's wish to enter the EU is falling to a complete simmer due to this, soon to be extinguished completely. Here is an article about the international reaction to this legislation:

What can you do to help? The biggest thing we currently rely on is international push back especially from the EU members and the possible overturn of this in the upcoming election. It does not help that this law is implemented due to greedy fucks and Russian puppets in Georgia who benefit from this. source:

You might hear many refer to this as 'Russian law' which is due to the fact that Georgia, under this puppet-leadership mimics Russian laws like the 'Foreign Agents Law' that was put into work only a few months prior the law assumes 'only receiving foreign funds makes an organization a foreign agent.' and I don't think I have to explain how horrendous that is.
We also rely on our president to veto the legislation before it goes into 'full effect' (though the consequences and effect have already begun) but even with this the political party which instated this legislation argue to over-ride her veto in parliament. source:

The most important thing right now is vocal pushback, and public support of the queer community. with what happened to Kesaria (may she rest in peace) a lot of trans people are fearing for their lives, and queer families no longer can remain in their own country if they want to continue to be themselves in any way.
Spread love, a lot of it like as much as you can offer to queer Georgians everywhere.
hi if ur unaware georgia 🇬🇪 (where i live) has officially banned gay marriage, gay ‘propaganda’, gender reassignment surgery and anything ’promoting’ it. a trans model, kesaria abramidze, has been murdered as a direct consequence of this legislation. if you have a queer georgian in your life pls let them know they are loved and let this solidify why we Need pride and hope cause jesus fuck man

When the anti "LGBT propaganda" law passed in Russia, all of you were going insane and cared. Give Georgia the same energy. If you can have sympathy for our oppressors on the basis of them being queer, you should keep the same energy for us, if not more.
If this law passes, every Georgian queer person I know is so severely fucked, myself included. If you make jokes about "being illegal in several countries" you better fucking care about the countries you're apparently illegal in, or going to be illegal in.
Make sure to spread this around. This is important.

My favorite staging moments at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest:
Iceland's fabulous shadow demon exorcism complete with major fringe
Spain faking a fall after a dance spin and cutting immediately to black
Cyprus caging their wild rockers plus an epic guitar solo/wolf howl section
Georgia with their trippy kaleidoscopic graphics and a purple-infused light show
Austria serving some fierce twirling Disney Princess realness and a burst of LED butterflies.
Belgium opening strong with silvery sequin goodness and ridiculously attractive and diverse singing backup dancers
Armenia shutting everything down by shooting plenty of dramatic flame towers and projecting some sexy hologram clones
Russia basically going for broke and stepping up with an insanely bonkers and expensive looking projection mapping choreography
Australia channeling haute couture and sci-fi with a gorgeous ball gown, a holographic interface, and some epic key changes
And of course... Ukraine sucking up all the light from the floor and wailing out a magnificent golden tree of rebirth in the background
Quilts in the field

We took a New Year's Eve hike today up to Sprewell Bluff. I was surprised at how hilly and rocky it was for the Piedmont. I'm still learning Georgia.
The bluff is above the Flint River. The trails were challenging and beautiful. Rock. And solid, like Mt. Gretna in Pennsylvania. Or the Smokies in Tennessee. Or where my people are from going back at least eight generations, the Shawangunk mountains of New York State. Yeah,...it felt a lot like that.
Since moving to Georgia, I have been thinking about my father's people a lot. My heritage. I think maybe it's because the people here in South Georgia go back for some generations. They are comfortable here and comfortable in their own skin. The way I remember my family in Port Jervis to be.

Just finished sketching and already started to doodle or how to explain it..
(FUTURE OC INFO SPOILER!!)

Rebogging for those affected by this. Hope you guys stay safe out there

Just want to add to this. Regular hurricane places have been affected, but places that were completely inexperienced have suffered through this as well.

The link is to a website that lists places to shelter if needed, though it seems to be a small list. It also has a list of what would be appropriate to donate to charities, as well as a list of places in Appalachia that are accepting donations.
HURRICANE HELENE RELIEF
Since I'm incredibly anxious and very much annoyed, I'm compiling this post as a sort of master list of relief organizations and individual fundraisers for those in the path of Hurricane Helene.
Many of the links I post on this won't be individuals, but I encourage those within the path to add their links to this post in reblogs! Likewise, if you have any organizations / volunteer / grassroots efforts y'all would like to share, please do so!
My list is particularly focused on widely accessible resources, as well as Florida specific resources since... I'm from Florida.
(INTER)NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS
American Red Cross - The American Red Cross is on the ground helping people as Hurricane Helene approaches land as a very dangerous storm. Helene may produce winds over 150 mph, a massive 20-foot-high storm surge and as much as a foot of rain. Prolonged power outages and tornadoes may occur. The effects will be felt hundreds of miles inland including in Georgia and the Carolinas.
FEMA Disaster Assistance Improvement Program - The Disaster Assistance Improvement Program’s (DAIP) mission is to provide disaster survivors with information, support, services, and a means to access and apply for disaster assistance through joint data-sharing efforts between federal, tribal, state, local, and private sector partners.
Roll Mobility - An application that equips wheelchair users with reliable information about the accessibility of restaurants, public spaces, businesses, trails, and parking areas. Good information to have on hand, especially for those evacuating from their home areas.
Warmline Directory - Providing extensive yet accessible resources that empower individuals to find the mental health and wellness resources they need through a directory containing accurate and in-depth information. For those unfamiliar: Unlike a crisis line, a warm line operator is unlikely to call the police or have someone locked up if they talk about suicidal or self-harming thoughts or behaviors. A good resource for individuals in mental distress due to natural disaster circumstances.
Food Not Bombs - Recovers food that would have been discarded and share it as a way of protesting war and poverty. They also reduce food waste and meet the direct need of communities by collecting discarded food, preparing vegan meals that they share with the hungry while providing literature about the need to change our society. Food Not Bombs also provides food to protesters and striking workers and organizes food relief after natural and political crisis.
FLORIDA
Volunteer Florida Disaster Fund - The Florida Disaster Fund is the State of Florida’s official private fund established to assist Florida’s communities as they respond to and recover during times of emergency or disaster. In partnership with the public sector, private sector and other non-governmental organizations, the Florida Disaster Fund supports response and recovery activities.
