Arceus broke the tie in Cyrus’ favor; given his own fear and hatred of Rheia, he fell on the side that Cyrus’ possession was not his fault. Cyrus’ sentence was to be thus: His life would be spared, but he would only be allowed to travel in the Distortion World of this universe as he healed from the mental scars and warped psychology that the antimagical poisoning had left in him. As for other Pokémon worlds, he can only go as an astral projected version of himself, and he would be banned from heavily populated areas such as Sunyshore, Wyndon and Lilycove. If he ever took any sort of major social, political or economic leadership position, he would lose his right to be anywhere outside the Distortion World altogether forever until his next reincarnation–his astral projection would be instantly pulled from wherever he was at and an automatic binding spell would prevent him from ever leaving in any form again. He may eventually be allowed back into Risenverse, but that all depended on how well he did in treatment and how people felt about him being back there, and it would not be able to happen for at least fifty years.  However, this was not enough for Hikari. Hikari was pissed. Cyrus was facing severe consequences for his actions–but she felt like nothing less than the death penalty, delivered by Hikari herself, would make up for his murder of her Pokémon. And the fact that he might be eventually allowed back into the world he tried to destroy positively ENRAGED her even more. Furious, she reminded Arceus of how he had so cruelly punished her for her act of self-liberation in killing her abusive parents, and said she felt it was fundamentally unfair that at the same time he was allowing Cyrus to live when what he’d done–both to her and to others–was way worse. “Mercy has always been one of my values,” Arceus said. “Where was your mercy when I needed it?!” she shrieked.

Yeah, Cyrus is a mass murderer, but they'll probably do something about it anyway because 'eVeN mAsS mUrDeReRs hAvE rIgHtS.' The day I talk to a therapist is the day I can find one who'll be loyal to me instead of to the Establishment."

And even if there's no sympathy for Cyrus, there are scores of others she wants to kill--and has killed, in fact--who they would most definitely have to report about if she ever told them her plans. But she's not telling this kid--they don't seem like a snitch, but she's only just met them and they started arguing with her in defense of people she doesn't like, so who knows?

That’s all they can really say, huh? Clearly this lady has more than a chip on her shoulder — more like a boulder. But …

“You’re only sayin’ that cause that’s what you assume. Not all therapists are like that, Christ. You’re not special cause some jackass tried to murder you. Been there, done that. But my therapist did help me through it, and not through some wishy washy shit. So maybe sit down and reflect and think about things, actually, instead of obsessing over what you think will happen.”

Asteria half-flies, half-sprints across the grass with a Tailwind behind her to add to her speed, catching the stares of everyone at the festival as her feet barely touch the ground. Behind her is a near-identical copy of her also using Tailwind, keeping up admirably as befitting an expert shapeshifter such as themselves. The group from Hoenn approaches curiously--and then bursts into gales of laughter once they see the copy of their best friend with a Handsome Squidward face.

"Is that you with a Handsome Squidward face?!" May cackles. "What in the world--"

"They're Ditto. They're literally a Handsome Squidward Ditto." Her sides are heaving--she's back to her initial laughter once she realized that the Ditto don't mind. The Ditto transforms back into their original form, looking very pleased with themself. No sooner are the Hoenn crew able to get a look than they transform into a Handsome Machoke, flexing their equally handsome biceps.

"Are you sure they're okay like that?" Brendan asks curiously. "The face doesn't look natural...."

"They are, of course, 'okay like that,'" Maxie says, never one to pass up the opportunity to be a know-it-all show off his vast knowledge. "Handsome Ditto are a highly sought after Contest-specialized subgroup of Ditto that have resulted from a natural mutation in the Ditto's base appearance. It's a little-known fact that Ditto, despite being most commonly believed to only have one type of face, can be born with many different types of faces; this is merely one of them, with its resemblance to the cartoon character known as 'Handsome Squidward' being an amusing coincidence. There has been a surge of 'Handsome Ditto' in shelters as of late, following the banning of their use in Unovan Contests. Perhaps this is where Asteria's new partner has come from."

"Well damn, Maxie, when did you become the expert on Handsome Squidwards?" Archie jokes, and Maxie rolls his eyes.

"He could be right, though," Wallace says. "This Ditto carries themself like they have Contest experience." He peers at the Ditto. "Do you?"

Handsome Ditto grins, its form slowly shifting into that of...Wallace with a Handsome face?!

"WHA--"

"Enough Contest experience that I can flawlessly imitate the great Wallace himself," Ditto says with a smirk, striking the Gym Leader's signature pose. Wallace stares, dumbfounded, as everybody else howls with laughter.

"You two should perform together," Asteria says, crying laughing at the shock on the older man's face.

"I......"

"Scared they'll upstage you?" Archie teases his nephew, waggling an eyebrow.

"We will share the stage as equals," says Wallace-Ditto, gesturing grandly toward him with an outstretched hand. "Or perhaps, do you think you're not skilled enough to match me~?"

The Pokémon makes an extra handsome face, looking like a photoshop meme that someone had made of Wallace on the Internet.

"....I need to lie down," Wallace mumbles, going to find some place to sit in the shade of the summer day.
