HOTCH: Hey, what are you doing here? HALEY: Your cellphone kept going straight to voicemail. HOTCH: (stammering) Yeah. No, I was in a meeting. Is everything alright? HALEY: Going out of town? HOTCH: Yeah, we've got to go to LA. I was going to call you from the car. (beat) What is it? HALEY: You really don't know why I'm here? HOTCH: Honey, I'm sorry. We're running late. HALEY: (sighs) I just got back from the hospital. Jack. HOTCH: (putting his hand on his head) Oh, my God. The tests. HALEY: Yeah. HOTCH: What happened? HALEY: He's got a condition. It's treatable and he's going to be okay. HOTCH: Honey, I'm sorry. (beat) How was he? HALEY: Scared. They put those electrodes all over him and he was wondering where his daddy was. (walking forward) Babe, you promised you'd be there. HOTCH: I know. I'm sorry. (beat) Where is he now? HALEY: At home with my mom. I didn't want him here while we were talking. Look, I know this job is important to you. But we're important, too. HOTCH: You don't have to tell me that. HALEY: I don't want you to wake up someday in some random city and realise that you don't know your own son. HOTCH: ...They can go without me. HALEY: No, they can't. It's okay. Go. We'll talk about it when you get home. HOTCH: I'm so sorry. (they kiss as Hotch leaves) Sorry.

haha im so glad this is the only conflict they have and everything is fine in their relationship for the rest of forever. haha. ha. hh.

GARCIA: This better be hella good. GIDEON: Garcia? ...Hello? GARCIA: Oh, yes, sir. I'm here. I'm sorry. I just...I wasn't...I'm surprised that you're calling me. GIDEON: I need to know who Joseph Davin shared a cell with. GARCIA: Yes, sure. Uh, it was a guy named... [typing] His name was Tony Canardo. They were in together for 18 months, and both were released three years ago. GIDEON: Before the killings started. Is that it? GARCIA: His current address is 865 Kentwood in Jacksonville. GIDEON: That's all you got? GARCIA: Yeah. GIDEON: Garcia. GARCIA: Yes? GIDEON: You do great work. Keep it up. [hangs up] GARCIA: Oh, thank you, sir. Thank you.

i wonder if part of garcia's frazzledness in this scene is due to some lingering iciness from gideon post-fisher king (he was easily the most angry with her about her playing a game on the bureau's wifi and letting a hacker in), and i wonder if gideon's "you do great work. keep it up" is him finally letting her off the hook for it. of course it could just be that garcia finds this case especially disturbing, which is throwing her off, and gideon is acknowledging that with his last line. i could go either way.

(sidenote: gideon complimenting her and then hanging up before she can respond is so very in character, i love those little moments like that that tell you something about the character)

also sorry i have nothing else to say about this episode. i actually finished it and went back to grab this exchange because it was really the only part of the episode i had any particularly coherent thoughts on, which is a shame because i think it's a very good, very tightly written episode with a good twist—it just didnt have much i had that itch to yell about.

ive had this thought rattling around in my brain for a thousand years but i wanted to wait until i got to diana's introduction to share it. do you ever think about how reid's life would have changed if he'd had any siblings? particularly younger ones?

how it would have changed the kind of person he became, how much worse the parentification would have been. how much more of a scumbag it would have made his father. if he had custody or if he lost them to the system or to family he barely knew (whenever i think about this sort of au i always think of the first, maybe because the latter two are just Too Real). do you ever think about it. i do.

Everyone Always Talks About How Much Spencer Loves His Mother, Diana, But The Relationship Just Hurts

Everyone always talks about how much Spencer loves his mother, Diana, but the relationship just hurts when you think about it.

Here Spencer is after having an incredibly long day. He flew from Las Vegas back to Quantico, figured out an extremely hard puzzle, found out his mother was in danger - then had to admit his mom is mentally ill and that he could be too one day. His mom is rude to him about his body, letters, and over the fact she was flown there to save her life. He then failed a negotiation and a man killed himself in front of him. He was hurt by a bomb, caught on fire, and helped rescue a victim while escaping a burning house.

And then after all that, he stands in front of his mom - exhausted, charred, vulnerable - and he doesn't tell her how he was hurt or about what he did. He says how she helped save Rebecca's life and Diana doesn't even look up.

Diana doesn't give any indication that she even knows who Spencer is and she doesn't ask about the ash all over him. It's clearly nighttime and she asks if it's lunchtime. She doesn't remember that she read the books she asked him about to him.

Then Spencer, even though he is so tired, has to help his mom on the flight back across the United States, while reading to her and taking care of her while Spencer has no one taking care of him.

And this is medicated, well taken care of, Diana. If this is Diana on an alright day, on medicine - what was she like when Spencer was a child.
