19. Split Up? | 21. More Than...

News got out the the mayor passed away and we all went to the funeral. As the funeral ends someone catches Wednesday and mine eyes so she runs off to chase them making me groan following her. We end up catching up to the person and see it was a uncle Fester making us happy to see him.
"How long have you been stalking us?" I ask him was the three of us walk together.
"Just blew into town this morning and was hit by a wave of nostalgia." He tells us.
"I thought you didn't go to Nevermore." Wednesday looks at him.
"I didn't. Your dad got all the brains. But I used to drop in on him. Usually from the ceiling with a dagger clutched between my teeth. Just to keep him in his toes." He tells and we say of course. "He filled me in on what's been going on. Monsters, murder, mayhem. What fun! I told him I had a job in Boston, but I'd be checking up in your two."
"What kind of job?" Wednesday asks.
"The kind that means I need somewhere to lay low for a couple of days." He tells us so they both smile. Wednesday ends up talking him to the beekeeping shed.
"It belongs to a our friend." She tells him as we go in.
"You two actually made a friend. That poor kid will be going home in a body bag." He says and I see Wednesday look slightly sad. "I like a hideout that comes with snacks." He looks at the bees.
"Those bees are hibernating." I tell him.
"They're practically Eugene's children. That means do not eat them!" Wednesday tells him as he tries.
"You know when you give me that death stare of disapproval, you remind me of your mother. Speaking of scary things, you know what kind of monster you're dealing with?" He asks.
"We haven't been able to identify it." I tell him so Wednesday shows him the drawing.
"Ooh. It's called a Hyde." He tell us.
"As in Jekyll and Hyde?" I ask and he nods his head making me think back to when I randomly felt two feeling from it. It was a person who was split. "Excuse me. I gotta go. See you later Uncle Fester." I leave going to Xavier art shed.
"Surprised to see you here." He says as I walk in.
"I'm kinda hoping to have a vision or something from your art of the monster." I walk around looking at the art work.
"About the painting"
I cut him off, "Xavier, it's fine. I just felt vulnerable because you've seen me with my walls down slightly when go out to draw." I tell him.
"How would you get a vision for my art work?" He goes back to why I was here.
"I don't know but I need something." I huff.
"Try the one that scratched me." He motions over to it.
"I'll give it a try." I walk over touching it and get a vision in Xavier's point of view working on the painting then it's claws come out scratching me.
"Val." Xavier holds me in his arms, "You stumbled back." He says as I stand up putting my hand on my neck then see blood. "How?" He moves my hair to look at my neck that had the scratches he had.
"I don't know. I was in you place in the vision." I sigh.
"You need to go clean it." He grabs my hand pulling me out leading me back to the school. He takes me to his room and I sit on his bed as he goes to the bathroom. I was in a little shock that I got hurt from a vision. Xavier comes back sitting next to me moving my hair out of his way as he cleans my neck. "Val, are you okay?" I hear him ask but don't answer as I stare into space. "Valentine." He tucks hair behind my ear.
"That's not normal... What's happening to me?" I turn my head to look at him concerned.
"I wish I knew..." He sighs placing his hand on my knee so I move it off me.
"Please don't." I tell him nicely.
"Sorry." He takes his hand back.
"At least I know you were telling the truth about what happened." I chuckle some.
"Thought you already did." He gives me a look.
"I did but now I really know." I make him chuckle. "I'm gonna go to my room. Thank you for helping me with my neck." I get up.
"Welcome."
"What happened to your neck?" Enid sees me enter the room.
"A vision." I keep it short.
"You got hurt from a vision? How?" She comes to sit next to me.
"I don't know how. I touched the painting that did the same to Xavier and it happened to me as well but in the vision since I was in his place." I lay down.
"Maybe you should call your mom and ask what does it mean." She lays down next to me.
"She'll get worried and think it's not safe here and take me to get looked at by family members." I look at the ceiling.
"It's a fair response." She does the same as me.
"The monster's a Hyde. Like Jekyll and Hyde... Which makes sense when I felt two feeling from it when I first saw it. I explained to Tyler I felt anger and fear from it like it was two different people. The normal part that I kinda saw and heard that was forced into becoming this... they're scared of them self."
-
"What do you want with me now?" I ask Wednesday meeting her out by the statue to the Nightshades.
"We're getting a diary to learn more about the Hyde." She snaps for us to go in. "Uncle Fester?" Wednesday calls out.
"Who's Uncle Fester?" Xavier walks into view.
"What are you doing here?" She asks him.
"Since I'm an actual Nightshade, I don't have to explain myself. What's your excuse for creeping around in the middle of the night?" He asks her putting a book away.
"Research." I tell him.
"On the monster? I'll save you two some time. There's nothing in here matching that thing." He walks over to us.
"Isn't that convenient." Wednesday tells him turning to walk away.
"You know what your problem is?" He makes her stop.
"I would love to hear your piercing insight." She tells him.
"You don't know who your real friends are. I've been on your side since day one. I've literally saved your life. I believed your theories when nobody else did. And what do I get in return? Just nothing but suspicion and lies." He tells her.
"Technically that isn't true." I cut in before Wednesday could say something.
"What?" Xavier cocks his head.
"You didn't believe us at first about witnessing Rowan's murder. You didn't believe the monster was real or human when the rain washed the footprints away. So don't lie saying you did when nobody else did." I wanted to be straight with him.
"You want honesty? Here it is. Every time the monster's attacked, you've been right there. Starting with Rowan at the Harvest Festival. Then on Outreach Day, you arrived just minutes after the monster disappeared, yet you say you didn't see it." She tells him with a death glare.
"I didn't realize proximity was a crime." He walks past us to leave.
"Then there's your drawing obsession. You have drawn the monster dozens of times, yet you've never seen it. Or so you claim. You drew where it lived. Then when Eugene went to investigate, you tried to kill him so he wouldn't spill your secrets." She tells him and I just look at her.
"You think I would hurt Eugene?" He walks towards her.
"Let's not your oh-so-convenient appearance after Tyler has been attacked at the Gates mansion. And I know a perfectly good reason why you would try to get him out of the picture." She glances at me.
"If I am the monster, the why haven't I killed you or Val yet?" He stops in front of her.
"Because you wouldn't dare kill someone's sister you like because she would be devastated." She glares at him.
"Wednesday, that's a bit much with no sold evidence. And I had a vision of him getting scratched by the art work. It happened to me in the vision." I show her my neck.
"He could have done that on purpose just to make it seem like he was innocent." She gives him a death glare so he scoffs leaving us. "How long have you been lurking?" Wednesday turns to Uncle Fester.
"Long enough to feel tension between Val and him just by their looks. Seriously, you could cut it with an executioner's axe." He tells us.
"No, I don't like him like that anymore. He's just a friend." I leave not wanting to be with them. "Xavier!" I chase after him.
"What?" He turns to face me in the main hall.
"I know it's not you and I'm sorry I can't change her mind about you. She's very stubborn." I catch up to him.
"Did you even for a tiny second think I could be the monster? Be serious with me, please." He begs me.
"Just when you showed up when I found Tyler hurt. Only because you it was very random for you to be there. That's the only time ever." I tell him truthfully.
"I went there looking for you. That night I went to your room and Yoko said you were with Wednesday and Enid. I went to their room knocking on the window thinking I had a better chance at getting you to not run from me. I went in and just saw Thing. I thought where could they be and remembered about Wednesday wanting to know about the Gate's gate."
"See, I believe that but then it was just for a second. I was just worried and scared that night so you didn't help showing up." I explain to him.
"I would never try to hurt you, Wednesday or Enid. Hell, I wouldn't even hurt Tyler because you care about him as well. And if I hurt someone you care about them I'm hurting you as well." He steps closer to me, "You mean to much to me to do that." He leans down so I put my hand on his chest to stop him.
"Xavier, I'm sorry." He stops looking hurt.

11. Know What I Saw | 13. Outreach Jobs

Instead of going to the hummers I end up helping Enid continue decorating the canoe. "We have to get back to the woods." Wednesday comes up to us.
"How? Weems has been watching you like a vulture circling a carcass." I look up at her so she glances at Enid.
"You want me to cover so you two can return to the scene of a crime that didn't happen?" Enid says still working.
"I have beekeeping club this afternoon. I need you as decoy. Weems doesn't care about Valentine because she trusts her." Wednesday tells her.
"Sorry. Two strikes. I'm busy and bees totally creep me out. Why don't you ask Thing? Wait, you can't because he's mad at you." Enid tells her.
"Why is he mad? He's the one who screwed up with Rowan."
"All I know is that we spent an hour giving each other manis, and he really opened up. He feels like you don't respect him as a person." Enid lets her know.
"Technically, he's only a hand." Wednesday looks at her.
"Wednesday, he's our family. And Thing would do anything for us, especially for you." I add.
"Go apologizes and I'll reconsider helping you." Enid tells her so she walks off.
"That will be the first attempt to apologize ever." I laugh continuing to paint.
"Really?" Enid says surprise. "Wednesday has never said sorry to anyone." I shake my head.
Soon Wednesday comes back saying she and Thing were on better terms so Enid helps Wednesday out. I wait outside of the shed while Enid helps Enid and talks to Eugene. "Let's go." She comes out taking the lead so I follow her.
"So what exactly are we looking for?" I quietly ask her as we walk around looking at the ground.
"Anything to prove it happened. Someone had to leave at least one thing." She keeps her eyes down.
"There was no blood at the scene so I doubt they would leave something accidentally." I say walking ahead of her before we hear a dog. We both look in the direction but I'm grabbed by someone placing their hand over my mouth so I grab Wednesday taking her with me.
When the sheriff and the dog pass by Wednesday pulls me away from who grabbed me and it was Tyler. "What the hell? I never get scared and you startled me." I slap his chest.
"Sorry. I didn't want Elvis to pick on up your scents." He explains to me.
"Thanks. How'd you throw them off?" Wednesday asks him.
"Uh..." He shows is coffee grounds. "Deer hunting hack. One of the perks of being a part-time barista." He puts them away.
"I assume your father didn't bring the bloodhound to play fetch." Wednesday says.
"He doesn't tell me shit. You two must think it's weird I'm stalking him." He gives us a look.
"No, we consistently stalk our parents." Wednesday tells him walking off so we follow her.
"What really happened the other night at the festival? Look, I swear I won't say anything to my dad. Valentine already told me she found Rowan using his powers to hold you up against a tree. She yelled his name and he used his other hand to fling her into a tree. Then this creature showed up killing him." Tyler tells her.
"That exactly happened. I thought Rowan was in danger. Turns out I was wrong. Then he proceeded to use his Telekinesis to try and choke me to death. Valentine came running and he used his telekinesis to throw her into a tree. That's when this monster came out of the shadows and gutted him." She tells him the same thing.
"You both saw it and it didn't try to kill you both?" Tyler asks so I nod my head.
"It actually saved me from Rowan, probably Valentine too. That's the part I'm trying to figure out. We came out here to find something that can prove he was murdered and that we haven't lost our minds. Yet." She says before finding Rowan's glasses picking them up getting a vision.
"What did you see?" I bend down to her.
"The gargoyle... that was Rowan. He even used his powers in Xavier in a argument. I need to find that purple book." She tells me, "Remember he said I was destined to ruin the school but also said it was possible for you too. If I don't then you do... So you're apart of this too. We need that book." She adds.
"Well, I don't know what purple book you're talking about. I don't see what you see." I stand up then start remember something when I got a vision from him. "But I know where the book is... Sorta."
"Sorta?" She stands up.
"I bumped into him and had a vision of him looking for a book in a library I've never seen." I explain to her and she walks off.
"Bye, I guess." Tyler waves making me giggle some.
"Thanks for helping us not get caught. I can't believe you scared me." I shake my head.
"Sorry, again." He apologizes.
"I'm guessing you two had a shitty moments that made you stalk him?" I say staying with Tyler.
"Yeah. Upset I don't tell him what I talk to Dr. Kinbott about. I told him we talk about mom because he won't." He looks down at the ground.
"If you ever want to rant to me... I'm here for you." I smile backing away from him, "See you, Ty." I wave going back towards the school.
-
I thought after sometime I was off the clock while laying in bed listening to music but I was wrong when Thing pops up telling me I was needed and needed to follow him. I groan getting up following and Wednesday tells me we were sneaking into Xavier's room to look for the book to see if Rowan left it behind. We wait outside the window till Xavier goes into the bathroom after his run.
"Start investigating." She tells Thing and I.
"So bossy." I look through things.
"Why draw me?" I hear Wednesday say under her breath then flip more pages, "You, you, you, you, you. He's obsessed with you." She looks over at me.
"That's a bit odd for me." I continue to look around.
I hear her find something under Rowan's bed and pulls out a mask, "Lets go." She tells me as there was a knock at the door.
We both quickly hide under each bed. I think I was lucky I wear black because if I was in Enid's clothes, you would 100% see me under Rowan's stripped bed. "You're not supposed to be up here." Xavier pulls Bianca into his room.
"Good to see you too."
"How'd you get past the Housemaster? Use your siren powers?" He says not really wanting to see her.
"Not while wearing this. Would it kill you to not think the worst of me for once? I came to see how you're doing. I'm sorry about Rowan. I know you guys used to be close." She tells him.
"Since when did you give a damn about Rowan?"
"You were the one afraid he'd do something to Wednesday. Isn't that what you've been following her like an eager-eyed puppy? Or is there something more? More like not wanting anything to happen to her because it would affect her sister? What do you see in Valentine? You have a thing for goth girls who are psychos deep down?" She follows him over to his desk.
"Maybe it's because she hasn't tried to manipulate me." He tells her and see Wednesday look over at me.
"I make one mistake, and you can't forgive me. You two fight and she will go days without talking to you and you can't get enough." Bianca tells him annoyed.
"What are you still fixated on Valentine?" He asks. "
Because she thinks she's better than everyone else and her sister is the same. I can't wait to crush Ophelia Hall tomorrow and watch their werewolf roommate and friend crumble. It's gonna be a Poe Cup finale to remember."
"I hate to think what you've got planned." Xavier tells her.
"My game's already started. I like to win. Is that wrong?" She tells him making me wonder what has she done.
"And you wonder why I broke up with you." Xavier tells her.
"You used to love my killer instinct. We were good together, Xavier." I watch her take his hand.
"Were we? Is that just how you wanted me to feel?" He makes her back away.
"Trust me, Valentine Addams is not the girl of your dreams. She's the stuff of your nightmares." Bianca leaves and Xavier goes back to the bathroom so we rush to leave.
"How do you feel?" She asks me as we head to her room.
"Shut up." I tell her as we go through her window.
"Where have you two been? I'm literally having a heart attack right now. Yoko and Eve are in the infirmary because of a Garlic bread incident at dinner. They both had a major allergic reaction and are both out is the Poe Cup. I don't have a co-pilot or another teammate." Enid paces around.
"It wasn't an accident. Bianca's behind it. And remember I said I would fill in if something was to happen." I try to calm her down.
"The three of us are going to take her down tomorrow." Wednesday lets Enid know.
"Wait. You're joining the Black Cats too? You're willing to do that? For me?" She looks at her.
"I want to humiliate Bianca so badly that the bitter taste of defy burns in her throat." Wednesday tells her.
"Yeah, but mostly you're doing it because we're friends, right?" Enid asks so Wednesday turns away from her asking how Bianca keeps winning so Enid explains to her.
Before heading out to get some sleep I grab Enid's arm, "As much as I would love to beat Bianca at her own game and see her pissed off... Unlike my sister, I am doing this because you're a good friend and I said I would." I whisper to her making her hug me. I stand there for a second before hugging her back.
"Thank you, Val. You're the best." She lets go of me excited.

17. Under Arrest | 19. Split Up?

I was just chilling in my bed when a note slid under my door. I get up to see it read, If you want answers, meet inside Crackstone's crypt. Midnight. I leave my room and run into Wednesday and Enid, "Did you get a note as well?" I ask her and she nods her head.
The three of us head out with our flashlights to see what it was about. Wednesday and I go in while Enid stayed outside. There was slight movement but no one we could see so we called out to them. "Try anything and you'll lose limbs." Wednesday adds.
"Surprise!" Divina, Xavier, Kent, Ajax, and Yoko come out singing happy birthday while Enid brings out a cake.
"I should have known you were behind this." Wednesday flashes her light at Thing then tells him she wanted no party.
"I thought my cake design was pretty inspired." Xavier smiles.
"The pink balloon was my little touch. Why don't you two make a wish?" Enid asks but something else catches Wednesday's eyes.
"Fire will rain, when I rise." She reads.
"That's not really a wish." Enid tells her.
"Wait, we're never eating that cake, are we?" Ajax speaks up. Wednesday gets a vision confusing everyone but Xavier and I. When she comes back she leaves us all.
"Thank you guys for this but Wednesday doesn't care for good happy birthdays." I let them know.
"You still wanna make a wish?" Enid holds the cake out to me. I close my eyes then open them.
"I'm not telling it or it won't happen." I give her a smile.
"So can we eat the cake without Wednesday since we have Valentine?" Ajax adds.
"Why not?" I say so we eat the cake together and hangout before going to bed.
-
"Birthday girl." Xavier smiles as I walk out to head to town.
"Please, don't call me that." I give him an ugly look.
"Sorry. Where you off to?"
"Into town." I tell him and he just nods his head.
"To do?" He puts his hands into his pockets.
"See Eugene then swing by the Weathervane for a drink and a snack. I don't plan to doing much today. Normally on my birthday, I isolate myself. I like it that way." I explain to him.
"Okay, I hope you enjoy being alone." He chuckles.
"I will." I leave his side.
I swing by the hospital to check up on Eugene and every time I came by to see him I would get upset even though I knew he was going to be fine. "Don't worry about your babies. Wednesday and I have been taking care them for you. I can't wait till you wake up." I give him a smile then leave the hospital.
Walking into the Weathervane I take a seat in a booth resting my head on the table before pulling out my sketchbook. As I sketch Tyler comes up to the table, "I know you only drink hot chocolate, but I've been working on this all week." He sets my drink down that says happy birthday as he sits across from me.
"Let me guess, Thing told?" I put my book down.
"Who do you think delivered the cake? Yeah, I went with the 98% dark chocolate ganache knowing both of your preferred color palette."
"It was alright... I normally don't like dark chocolate though. It's too bitter for me but it was still good. Thank you, now I don't want to drink this because it will get messed up. I mean you said it took you a week." I look at my drink.
"I'll be more hurt if you don't drink it. Enjoy my hard work." He motions to it so I do.
"Not bad." I make him laugh.
"What's your birthday plans for the day?" He changes the topic.
"Went to see Eugene in the hospital then came here for a drink and snack. Then I plan on isolate myself away. That's now I normally spend my birthdays after the stupid songs and cake and party." I explain to him.
"So, if I asked you out to a non-birthday, song-free dinner... would that be something you're interested in?" He asks with a slight smile.
"That means you really like this boy, dear. Don't be afraid to act on them... especially romantic ones." I hear my mothers words replay in my head.
"That does sound like something I'm interested in." I give him a smile causing him to get the biggest smile ever.
"Really?" He scans my face trying to see if I was joking or not.
"Yes, Tyler. I would like to go to a non-birthday, song-free dinner." I chuckle at his face.
"YES! SHE SAID YES!" I hear him screaming to himself on the inside making me laugh me. "Great. I should get back to work then." He gets up from the table happily.
I continue to stay at the Weathervane since I got alone time to sketch. Wednesday ends up coming in at some point taking a seat across from me. "You go visit Eugene?" I ask her so she just nods her head reading a Pilgrim's Journey.
"I know you're usually a quad kind of girl, but I've been working on that all week. Valentine can confirm since she saw hers earlier." Tyler brings her one taking a seat next to me.
"Birthday, yes. Happy, never." She tells him.
"He delivered the cake. He went with the 98% dark chocolate ganache knowing both of our preferred color palette." I add making him smile at me.
"Is that Enid's gift?" Tyler looks at her gift.
"It's perfect if you're fleeing a war-torn country on foot." She tells him.
"I haven't gotten one yet and I've been her friend longer." I mumble to myself.
"Come on. Don't you like a day that's all about you?" He asks her.
"Every day is all about me. This one just comes with cake and a bad song." She tell him.
"Got it, you both hate celebrating your birthdays." He nods his head.
She looks at her book before sliding him a drawing of the gate, "Have you seen that before?" She asks as he looks at it.
"Uh... What's that supposed to be?" He makes her take it back.
"It's a gate, you dummy." I give him a look as she goes back to reading.
"I'll leave you two alone then. Text you later." Tyler gets up leaving us. When the Sheriff comes in Wednesday goes over to him while I get my stuff to head back to the school.
"Enid!" I shout walking into the room.
"Oh, here's your gift! You went in to town before I could give it to you." She rush over handing it to me.
"Thank you. So I have a dinner tonight with Tyler." I say making her squeal.
"Let's go find an outfit." She drags me to my room to go through my closet. "Everything is black." She groans.
"You don't say."
"This is a cute dress." She pulls out one and I agree. "Then you're wearing this tonight." She hands it to me, "Well put it on so I can see how you look in it." She snaps her fingers at me. Once I was in my outfit she smiles, "Perfect." She claps her hands.
"I need you to do me a favor." Wednesday walks into my room then eyes me.
"A favor?" I tilt my head.
"Yes, see if Xavier has seen this." She hands me the drawing of the gate.
"Why me?" I ask confused.
"I don't want to talk to him." She leaves the room.
"I'll finish getting ready after I go on a quest for my sister." Enid and I leave my room.
As I walk to Xavier's shed, Thing joins me making me roll my eyes, "She send you?" I ask and he gives me a thumbs up. When I get to Xavier in the shed he didn't hear me come in because he was listening to music loudly. He catches me out of the corner of his eye so he looks over at me eyeing me.
"Wednesday sent me to ask you for help." I tell him walking over holding out the drawing she did so he turns off his music.
"Her line work's a little shaky." He jokes.
"She wants to know if your recognize it." I tell him so he motions to the one he did on the wall. "When did you draw that?" I ask him.
"Couple days ago. The dreams started again." He lets me know.
"Do you know where that is?" I look at him.
"Yeah. It's the old Gates mansion. I pass it when I go running. Why?" He looks at me.
"She saw that in a vision." I say before Thing snaps to get our attention.
He pulls a sheet off a painting to show a big art work of me drawing alone outside Wednesday and Enid's bedroom window. The only two who knew I ever did that to escape from the world really late at night. I walk over to look at it and had mixed feelings.
"Okay. Listen... After the dance, I just wanted to forget about you, but I couldn't. So I started painting and that's what came out." He tells me, "I've happen to see you a few times when I go out on the roof to get air when I get nightmares." He sighs then makes the painting move. Me in the painting does certain motions I do when I'm focused. "You just look happy when you're alone in your own little world away from everything."
My phone goes off and I see it was from Tyler saying what time he would pick me up. "I have to go finish getting ready and tell Wednesday about the mansion." I head for the door, "Thanks for the help."
"It's the Gates Mansion... and I'm never doing you a favor again when it comes to Xavier." I walk in putting the picture on her bed then leave to finish getting ready.
-
When it was time to meet Tyler outside the gates, Enid tells me good luck and enjoy dinner. As I walk closer I see Tyler waiting outside the car leaning against it on his phone. "Why are you waiting outside the vehicle?" I ask walking up to him.
He looks up from his phone to look at me and smiles, "Thought it was more polite to wait this way. You look better than me." He chuckles.
"I always do." I joke with him.
"You know what, I change my mind. I don't want to take you to dinner anymore." He reached for his handle and I decided to play evil.
"Okay, I'll just see if Xavier wants to go out." I turn around making him grab my wrist pulling me into his chest accidentally because of how he pulled me.
"That's rude." He looks down at me as I look up to him.
"Let's go, I'm hungry." I walk around to the other side and he rushes to open the door for me. I shake my head at him getting in and as he walks around to the drivers side I mess with my fingers getting nervous.
We drive to a diner in town Tyler gets the door again then pushes me in when we get seated. "You don't have to try so hard." I let him know. "
I just want to make a good impression and want you to enjoy tonight." He takes his seat grabbing the menu to look at.
"A good impression? I've known you for months now, Tyler. And I don't need you to act like an extra gentleman for me to enjoy my night. I'm already enjoying it. You're actually making me like my birthday for once." I give him a smile.
"I'm honored."
Once we get our food we talk about things I don't normally talk about with people not even my family making me realize I 100% have opened up to him. I let him in... I always said I would never let anyone through my walls I've put up to keep the world out. He's seen me for me deep down... at my best and worst moments.
"You okay? You look like you left this world." He awkwardly chuckles.
"I just realized something so yeah I kinda left this world." I tell him truthfully.
"What did you realize? You seem concerned." He scans my face.
"I've let you in and opened up to you. You know things I don't even tell my family. You know parts of me I hide... I let down my walls for you." I laugh at myself.
"Do you regret it?"
"No." I shake my head, "If it was going to be anyone, I'm glad it's you. I trust you." I tell him and his smile slightly faded looking sad before going back.
"I'm happy you chose me accidentally." He grabs my hand that was resting on the table, "I've let my walls down around you as well. I feel comfortable around you. Like you won't judge me." He squeezes my hand.
"I would never judge you...unless you do something really stupid." We laugh.
As we head out we were laughing because on the way out Tyler ran into the door trying to beat me to it to open the door for me. "How about we swing by the Weathervane before you take me back? I don't want this night to end yet." I put my hand out for him to take.
He takes my hand into his and we walk down the sidewalk enjoying the silence. "You know that door hurt my nose." He makes me stop walking to look at him.
"Well it looks the same. No blood so you're all good." I study his nose.
"Why do you make me act this way?" He smiles staring into my eyes as he brings his hand to my face.
"Because you like me." I try to keep a straight face but can't help smile. I feel him start to lean down and I lean up to meet him but a crash makes us pull away to see the mayor got hit by a car.

10. Festival | 12. Looking for a Clue

The next day they didn't find Rowan in the woods dead confusing Wednesday and I. "What were you both doing out in the woods with him?" The sheriff asks as we all enter Weems office.
"We heard a noise in the forest and went to go investigate." Wednesday tells him.
"That's when we stumbled upon the attack." I add.
"Then what happened?" He asks us.
"We ran to get help but I fainted as soon as we got back to the festival. I was shocked by what we saw." I slightly lie.
"I ran into Bianca Barclay, and told her to go for help. Next thing I remember, I was awaking in the infirmary next to my sister."
"Just to be clear, this monster wasn't a bear or some other wild animal?" He asks us.
"We've hibernated with grizzlies. We know the difference." We tell him at the same time.
"Thank you, Sheriff. I think the Addams are done now." Principal Weems stands up from her seat.
"Actually, I would like to speak to Sheriff Galpin. Alone." Wednesday says but Weems says no before agreeing so we won't go down to the station. "Someone is trying to cover up Rowan's murder. That's the only reason to scrub the crime scene." Wednesday tells him as the three of us were alone.
"Is that your professional opinion as the daughter of a murderer?" He asks making me mad.
"Our father's twice the man you are, the only thing he murders is the occasional opera in the shower. Sheriff, we know what we saw. We wouldn't lie about this. You have to believe us. I know you want to reject our claims but you can't because you know just like us there's a monster out there. What else would explain those three bodies?" I stare him down till the door opens and the deputy shows us Rowan making us shocked.
After some time we were told for today's therapy sessions, Wednesday and I both had to go together. "Help me understand why you two claim you witnessed a murder. Was it to gain attention?" Dr. Kinbott asks.
"Why should I bother telling you anything? You've already decided we're lying. We know what we saw." Wednesday tells her.
"I've never lied in any session so why would I start now? It makes no sense to lie about something like this." I speak up so she looks at me then focuses on Wednesday,
"Your life's had a lot of upheaval recently. It's okay to be confused about things. And maybe you are confused as well with the feelings of having your sister around." She then looks at me so I roll my eyes.
"Don't try to lure me into one of your psychological traps." Wednesday tells her.
"No one is trying to trap you. I'm here to help you process your emotions." Dr. Kinbott tells her.
"Emotions are a gateway trait. They lead to feelings which triggers tears. I don't do tears like my sister." Wednesday adds so I give her a look,
"I don't even remember the last time I cried so I have no idea what you're talking about." I lean back in my seat as the two go on about Wednesday being alone and comparing her to me and how I've changed.
"I will not be like this new side of Valentine." She said as the session was up so Wednesday gets up to leave first.
"Valentine, are you playing along to win your sister back?" Dr. Kinbott asks as I head to the door.
"The session is over but no. I know what I saw and I still have her. We're family after all." I leave the room heading out to see Tyler talking to Wednesday.
"You know, for the record, I believe you both." I hear him tell her as I get closer to them. He turns around to walk away and bumps into me, "Sorry." He looks down at me.
"We had a session together since we both are liars." I tell him as Wednesday waits for me.
"Well, I believe you two." He tells me now.
"I heard you tell Wednesday that." I smile.
"You okay?" He notices the little bandage on my head.
"Yeah, my head hit a tree. It's nothing. We should get going." I see Wednesday walking off getting tired of waiting.
"I have a feeling you aren't telling me everything." He says so I sigh letting Wednesday go off.
"You know me so well." I chuckle.
"So what happened when you ran after your sister?" He asks as we walk some.
"I found Rowan using his powers to hold Wednesday up against a tree. I yelled his name and he used his other hand to fling me into a tree, which caused this. Then this creature showed up killing him. It looked at us before running off. We got back to the festival and I fainted." I explain to him.
"That's, wow. Why would he attack Wednesday?" He asks.
"We don't exactly know." I lie but tell the truth too and so he believes me.
"There's just something about the creature though..." I sigh.
"What?" He looks at me confused.
"The way it looked... and I had this familiar feeling I can't explain. But I have no idea." I groan.
"Familiar? Like you could know who or what it is?" He watches me.
"I don't know. All I know is I felt two feelings from it which confuses me. Anger and fear... Like it was two different people."
"Can you feel feelings? What is your power?" He asks since I never told him.
"Visions. But I've got a new one recently and I don't know if I got another one or it was just something else." I explain to him.
"When you mean two different people... like the guy that died and the monster?" He raises an eyebrow.
"No, both were from the monster... And I actually felt a little sorry for it after it killed Rowan. Why did I feel sorry for it?" I look at him confused.
"You said you felt fear from it... Maybe it's scared of itself." He looks me in the eyes.
"Maybe... I should go because I promised to help Enid with something for our race coming up." I let him know.
"I'll see you around then or text you." He smiles walking off as I head off.
Back at school I help Enid decorate the canoe for the Poe cup. "I'm still surprised you wanted to help out." Enid says as we all eat some pizza.
"I said I would help a friend out. Plus I just hope you beat Bianca." I give her a smile.
"It would've been better if you joined the team." She tells me.
"That's too much for me." I make her laugh.
"I understand but still you could beat Bianca..." She gives me a look.
"If something happens to a teammate's then I will fill in." I say just to make her happy.
"Hopefully that won't happen." She gets worried.
~
"You know you're sister is supposed to show up." Xavier tells me as we practice with our bows. I was apart of two clubs that I took turns going to. This and Bee Keeping. Weems didn't care I was part of both because she was just happy I wanted to be apart of things.
"Principle Weems making her choose a club..." I laugh making every bullseye compared to him.
"Can I ask you a question?" He looks over at me.
"You just did." I make another bullseye.
"Why do you think you saw Rowan die?" He asks so I look over at him.
"I don't think... I know. And to be honest I don't care if you believe me or not." I look away from him.
"Why? Let me guess, Tyler does?" He says as I pull back the arrow and turn towards him causing him to freak out. "Valentine! What the hell. Don't do that!" He moves around so I turn back to the target and make another bullseye before leaving not wanting to be here anymore.
"Thought you were doing archery this week?" Eugene asks as I walk towards him.
"That was till Xavier pissed me off again." I go to change into my suit. As I come out my phone goes off with texts from Xavier saying sorry again. I growl putting my phone away.
"What did he do this time?" He asks as we mess with the bees.
"Bringing up a friend of mine, he hates. We always butt heads about him." I shake my head then we see Wednesday show up so he goes over to welcome her.
"You're in both?" She tilts her head as I walk over to them.
"Yep, I take turns. Xavier pissed me off so I came here." I smile.
"Tyler?"
After changing into her suit, she disappears because of Thing. "She has an emergency." I tell Eugene as he sighs.
Once the club was over it was time to go to Thornhill's class and Wednesday tells me Thing lost Rowan in a bathroom. "How?" I ask her confused.
"That's what I want to know as well." She said as we walk to find a seat.
There was two open seats and I pick the one not next to Xavier. I watch him show Wednesday his power with his art work. "I doubt Wednesday is impressed by your tricks, Mr. Thorpe." Ms. Thornhill tells him.
"Admit it, you're a little impressed." He smiles at Wednesday so he slams her hand down in the fake spider. As class starts Wednesday and Bianca go back and forth to prove who was better.

14. It's Human | 16. Rave'N

Enid and a few girls decided we should all go dress shopping for the dance. They wanted us to wear white to match the theme but there was no way I'd wear a white dress. While I went to look at dresses with the girls, Wednesday whet off to see the sheriff. Barely into the shopping I got bored so I left to go to the Weathervane.
As I walk in Tyler bumps into me on the way out, "Val." He smiles.
"Tyler." I smile back.
"What are you doing in town today?" He asks as we walk outside down the sidewalk.
"A few girls are dress shopping. I got bored of watching them." I shrug my shoulders.
"For the Rave'N this weekend. It was all the buzz at the Weathervane today." He says as we come to a stop.
"Wow, everyone is really obsessed with this dance." I shake my head.
"So, you're not going?" He asks.
"Actually, I was forced to ask someone because of Wednesday." I roll my eyes still pissed at her. "
Sure, that happens. Who is it?" He asks eyeing me.
"Xavier..." I watch his whole face change.
"Got it. Hope you two have fun." He starts to walk away.
"Why are you upset? I literally said I was forced." I make him turn around.
"I have a reason to be upset because you keep giving me these signals. I thought we liked each other, but then you pull something like this because you were forced?" He looks at me with so many different emotions.
"Wednesday put me on the chopping block because he almost caught us snooping around his shit. She made something up on the spot and threw me under the bus she was driving. I didn't want to ask him to the stupid dance. If I was going to ask anyone it would have been you." I start to get frustrated. "I told you Xavier was missing something so that meant I don't like him more than a friend." I run my hands through my hair getting even more frustrated. "I still don't fully know feelings because I'm developing new ones I've never felt before until I met you. You make me feel so many things and it makes me feel like I'm losing my mind." I feel myself wanting to cry which I hated was a thing now when I feel super frustrated.
Tyler walks up to me and stops right in front of me looking down at me, "You make me feel like I'm losing my mind as well." He takes a hold of one of my hands.
"I'm sorry." I take my hand back and walk away confused wanting to run to the train station and lay down on the tracks.
-
I just end up walk back to school to clear my mind. "Miss Addams, a gift from your mother has arrived today. I sat it on your bed." Ms. Thornhill smiles at I pass her in the hall.
"My mother sent me a gift? Thank you." I got to my room to see a box on the bed with a letter on top.
My dear, Valentine. I know the Rave'N will be coming up soon around this time. I have a feeling you'll end up going with a certain person or maybe just a friend. So I've taken the time to find you a perfect dress you would love. I didn't send your sister one because I know she would never go. And if I did send one she would even more think I was trying to change her. Love you my sweet little black rose.
I didn't want to open the box quite yet because I wanted it to be a surprise. I end up calling my mother with the crystal ball to thank her for the dress but I don't want to look at it till the dance. She was happy I was going but I told her Wednesday wasn't going to go which she had a feeling.
"We're going for a walk." Wednesday walks into my room.
"A walk where?" I eye her. "The woods. Eugene is leading the way." She leaves so I get up from my desk following her.
We end up at a cave that had the same circle spiral in the rocks. "It's definitely a match. What were you doing out here?" Wednesday asks him.
"Collecting specimens. This place is ground zero for horny gypsy moths. You think it's in there?" Eugene asks.
"Only one way to find out." She walks up to it and we go in. We see the floor covered in animal bones.
"Check this out." Eugene flashes his light on shackles nailed into the wall with scratches marks around it.
She walks towards something else while I touch the shackles. "Stop! Please leave me alone! Don't come near me! No!" A distorted voice screams getting deeper and their blurry body becomes the monster.
"Valentine, what did you see?" Wednesday looks at me.
"That's the thing, I couldn't really see or hear. It was blurry but the person who's the monster didn't want to change they were forced by someone." I explain to her as she holds a claw.
"I need to go back to the shed. I need something to compare this too. You don't look well. Eugene make sure she gets to her room okay." Wednesday leaves us so Eugene helps me.
As I lay in bed after taking something for my head I kept thinking about how there was two people we needed to find. Why would someone force someone into that monster? There was banging at the door making me jump in bed. "What the hell?" I get up walking to the door opening to see Xavier.
"Did you only ask me to the Rave'N because you and Wednesday think I'm the monster? She heavily believes I'm the monster because of all those things I painted of the monster." He brushes past me coming into the room.
"I don't think it's you." I tell him truthfully.
"I don't know if I can believe you." He shakes his head.
"All I want to know is how did you get the scratches and why paint all those? You're my friend Xavier, you can tell me. I was confused to see all that but I still don't think it's you." I walk away from the door.
"The creature has been haunting my dreams for weeks. I try to block it out but I can't. So I just paint it. The recent one, the claws reached out and took a swipe at me." He sits on my bed. "See that makes sense to me." I take a seat next to him. "You're sister doesn't think so." He messes with his hands.
"Do you care what she thinks?" I laugh.
"No, I care what you think." He looks at me.
"Well, I still don't think it's you. I only will if there's hardcore evidence to support it." I chuckle.
"You didn't want to ask me to the dance did you? You only did it to cover up you two were in the shed." His eyes scan my face so I nod my head,
"She cornered me into asking you but I'll still go with a friend if you want me to. If you're upset about the whole thing I get it." I let him know.
"I'm hurt you didn't want to ask me originally but I was going to ask you, so yeah, I still want to go to the dance with you." He smiles.
"Great, because my mom sent me my dress today but I don't want to see it till I get ready for the dance." I clap my hands and he leans over kissing me making me freeze in place.
"Can't wait to see you in your dress tomorrow." He leaves my room.
"I just called you a friend, dude." I wipe my mouth as I was left alone.
-
"Whose your date for the dance?" I ask Enid as we hangout in her room.
"Lucas." She smiles, "It's to make Ajax jealous." She rolls her eyes.
"But out of everyone, Lucas?" I give her a look.
"He approached me to get back at someone too so why not." She shrugs her shoulders.
"Your dress matches the theme." I say as she shows me her dress.
"What dress did you end up getting?" She asks me but Wednesday jumps in.
"She's not going to the dance anymore." She says making me look over at her.
"Why do you say that?" I ask her.
"Because Xavier knows the truth that you were forced to ask him." She turns to face me.
"I'm still going with him. And my mother sent me a dress. I still haven't looked at it. I want to be surprised when I put it on tonight." I tell both of them.
"Why still go with him?" Wednesday asks me.
"He's a friend still. Have fun doing whatever you and Eugene plan to do." I leave their room to go do whatever in my room.

20. A Hyde | 22. You Sound Ridiculous

"A Mocha, please." I walk up to Tyler working.
"That's different." He gives me a look, "You okay?" He asks making my drink.
"Not really. Apparently I can get hurt in my visions. Wednesday is set on believing Xavier is the Hyde, which is the name of the monster, our uncle told us. Enid wants to move in with Yoko and I because Wednesday doesn't care she almost got us killed. Xavier tried to kiss me again last night but finally got the hint I don't see him the same way. Also thinking about how the Hyde has some master that unlocked them and they kinda have a split personality because they're like Jekyll and Hyde. There's just a lot on my mind and Hot Chocolate isn't going to do the job." I rant everything to him.
"How about we schedule another date tonight? Take you mind off of everything for a few hours. Escape from the world and it's problems? Where we can just be us having fun? What do you say?" He puts my drink on the counter.
"I'd love that." I give him a smile taking me drink.
"A quick question... Why did you kiss me that night?" He makes me turn to face him.
"Did you not want me to?" I give him a wink going to sit down in a booth.
After some time Wednesday and Uncle Fester come in sitting at my booth as I come back from the bathroom. "Just gotta take my spot." I sit next to her as she looks at the diary.
"Kinbott has to be Xavier's master. The Hyde lays dormant until unleashed by a traumatic event or unlock through chemical inducement or hypnosis." She reads.
"That's what I saw in the cave. Well, blurry saw and heard. The Hyde was scared of who was hurting them. But I still don't believe it's Xavier or Dr. Kinbott." I tell her as we watch Uncle Fester drink the ketchup, "Eww."
"She must've figured out he's a Hyde and used hypnotherapy to unlock him. That would explain their secret sessions." She tells him.
"Or he just needs therapy when she's off work" I roll my eyes.
"I think the kid behind the counter has clocked me. Yeah. He's walking over. I'm gonna put him in a Romanian sleeper hold. Cover me." Uncle Fester tells us as Tyler walks over.
"Relax. He's not interested in you." Wednesday tells him.
"Made you a quad and you another Mocha. On the house." Tyler puts down the drinks.
"Hey, thanks kid. Need a refill on this puppy too." Uncle Fester takes Wednesday drink and hands Tyler the ketchup bottle.
"Tyler, this is our Uncle Fester." I introduced him to him.
"Oh. Uh... Hi, it's nice to-," Uncle Fester zaps Tyler as they shake hands.
"Was that necessary?" I ask him as he chuckles.
"Is that the Hyde. Val, told me it's name." Tyler sits next to me and looks at the diary. "
That sides ugly..." I hear him think to himself as he looks at the pages closer. "That's it. From that night." He tells us.
"Your father gave you explicit instructions not to be near us." Wednesday tells him.
"Wait, he said that about me too?" I look at Tyler.
"For one; my dad's not here, and I'm on a break. Two; just not to be near you when she's with you. Alone I can be near you." He tells Wednesday then me.
"So technically not us, just you." I look at Wednesday.
"Did she tell you about the master part?" Wednesday flips the page.
"Yeah, she kinda mentioned that." He leans closer to me to look at the book with us.
I turn my head slightly to look at him and we smile at each other but we're interrupted by his father coming in calling his name, "What did I say?" The three of us look over to see Uncle Fester disappear.
"For the record, Valentine was here alone first then when Wednesday showed up she was trying to keep her distance. I was the one that sat down with them." Tyler says as the three of us get out of the booth.
"All right. Putting these up around town. It's a bank robbery suspect, and he's a real creep. You haven't seen him, have you?" His dad shows us a wanted flyer of our uncle.
"No." Wednesday and I say at the same time.
"Yeah, he's be pretty hard to miss. I'll pin it on the bulletin board." Tyler tells his day who just huffs leaving.
"Is there ever a time when he's not miserable? I normally like to see people miserable, but I'm getting tired of him." I turn to look at Tyler.
"Nope, that's him 24/7." He rolls his eyes.
"Thank you. But you didn't have to do that." Wednesday tells him about lying about seeing Uncle Fester.
"Your family's very... colorful." He tells her.
"Ironic considering Fester's the black sheep. He's harmless." She takes her seat back in the booth.
"Harmless? He electrocuted me." Tyler says walking over to put the wanted flyer up.
"He does that for fun. So about our date? You do remember I can't sneak off campus right because of Wednesday? Weems trusts me but is worried about my safety." I turn to face him.
"You won't have to. I'll come to you. 9pm, Crackstone's Crypt." He turns to face me with a smile taking my hand into his.
"You're killing me." I laugh as how I was feeling inside.
"How long do you have to live?" He steps closer to me.
"I don't know but if you keep acting like this not much longer." I let go of his hand walking back over to Wednesday.
"What are you smiling about? I hate it. It creepy." Wednesday looks up at me.
"Nothing."
-
"You're really sneaking off campus?" Enid watches me to get ready to leave for my date with Tyler.
"That's the thing, I'm not leaving campus. Now excuse me, I have a date." I leave my room heading out to the woods to meet Tyler.
The entire time was heading out it felt like someone was watching and following me. "9pm on the dote." I walk up to Tyler, who was smiling.
"Great, now you have to close your eyes." He holds out a single flower.
"Are you serious?" I ask him.
"Unfortunately." He smiles more.
"I'm only doing this because I like you." I take the flower from him closing my eyes.
"Watch your step." Tyler puts his hand on my back helping, "Wait here. Keep your eyes close." I hear him open the doors, "Okay." He helps lead me inside. "Right here. One second. Don't open them yet." He leaves me to close the doors. "Okay, you can open your eyes now." He tells me so I do to see he decorated the inside with lights and had a blanket with popcorn set up with a projector. I look over at him taken back by his effort. "What? No one's ever taken you on a picnic inside a crypt before?" He makes me smiles, "How do you feel about scary movies?" He asks as the doors open revealing Wednesday so Tyler looks at me confused.
"This is what you snuck out to do and was secretive about?" Wednesday makes a face.
"That was you following me? Okay now you see what I'm doing. You can leave now." I give her a smile glaring at her.
"I love scary movies so I think I'll stay. Just ignore me on your little date. You won't even know I'm here." Wednesday walks to go take a seat way from the picnic.
"Wednesday, why are you staying here for our date?" I ask her annoyed.
"I'm bored, okay. Its odd not having Enid in the room. If you repeat that I will kill you." She glares at me.
Tyler walks over pulling down the sheet for our screen, "We can just ignore her. She's deadly quite anyways. It will be like she's not even here." Tyler takes my hand into his leading us to the blanket.
"You're right." I agree with him.
"Now, prepare to be horrified. He tells me as he starts the movie.
As soon as it starts I make a face at the song that starts letting me know wasn't a scary movie but was going to be one to me. I turn my head to see Tyler smiling at my reaction to the movie, Legally Blonde.
"Stop laughing." I give him a playful shove.
-
"That was torture." Wednesday says once the movie was over.
"You could have left." I tell her so she darts straight out of the crypt.
"Why didn't she do that an hour ago?" Tyler laughs turning off the projector.
"Because she enjoys torture. And I know that was hell for us but I'm kinda use to the color pink now because of Enid." I stand up from the ground.
"Did you enjoy it?" He walks up to me.
"I kinda liked parts of it oddly. Eww, I hate saying that." I cover my face.
"Then next weekend we can watch the second one." He chuckles making me look at him.
"They made two?" He nods his head before getting serious.
"I'm just gonna come out and say it. I want us to be more than friends."
"What if you randomly snap out of it one day?" I say getting slightly scared.
"Don't do that." He tilts his head looking at me.
"I'm new to this and I don't want to get hurt for the first time." I look down so he tilts my chin up to look at him.
"You can't keep trying to push me away. It's not going to work. You're feelings are just going to keep growing stronger just like mine for you." He looks me in the eyes leaning down some so I lean up connecting our lips. It felt so right kissing him, the way our lips moved together.
I pull back smiling at him as he rests his forehead on mine. "Am I making a mistake?" I ask and it comes out as a whisper.
"No, you're not." He goes in to kiss me again but the doors open with lights blinding us.
"What the hell? Tyler." His dad sees us as we both block the lights.
"Dad? What are you doing here?" Tyler asks him as his dad looks around the crypt.
"The school groundskeeper found the motorbike by the lake. It matches the description of the one the bank robber stole. There's a canoe missing. Figure he might be on the Raven Island. I'm not even going to ask what this is, but I never saw the two of you here. You got it?" He points at us. We nod our heads at him. "Unbelievable. Come on." His dad and his deputies leave us alone.
I look at Tyler stating to giggle about the whole situation making him chuckle pulling me into his chest. "You know he's not thrilled to catch us." I look up at Tyler wrapping my arms around his waist.
"He'll have to learn to get over it." He looks down at me so I lean up to kiss him.
"I should probably go to let my uncle know they're looking for him. He's on school grounds as we speak so." I move away from Tyler.
"Then I don't want to keep you. Talk to you tomorrow." He tells me so I give him one more kiss.
"Of course. Good night and thank you for tonight." I head out.
As I walk into the bee shed I see Uncle Fester, Wednesday crying and Thing bloody. "What happened?" I panic.
"Someone broke into my room and stabbed Thing from behind." Wednesday wipes her eyes.
"What a coward! But the reason I'm here, Uncle Fester, you need to leave. They found your motorbike so the sheriff won't be far. Maybe next time steal something a little less conspicuous." I let him know.
