Steal My Style! It's Really Easy:
Steal my style! It's really easy:
> character driven to the point I'm no longer in charge of the plot, these people just do what they want and don't pay their taxes.
> long sentences with lots of 3 verbs rythms. All the three verbs rythm. Life is a dissertation and by god am I getting an A.
> where are we at in terms of plot and dramatic tension? Easy, just check out the weather. I just realised it's in all my stories, all the time. I'm writing glorified weather forecasts at this point.
>Imagine characters speaking in themost dramatic way possible. You got it? Good, now double it, here's your dialogue.
> Married to the comma, cheating on her with the em-dash, sexting with the parenthesis. Sometimes if we're lucky I remember periods exist.
> Colours, comparisons and metaphors, all the time. If I can't create an efficient image of the scene in your mind (and you don't have aphantasia) then I have failed as a writer. My dream is to write stories that imprint themselves into the reader's eyelids after they close their eyes.
> A small but statistically significant amount of monkey references.
> angst. This one isn't specific at all but it's a core component always.
> complicated relationships with love that can be twisted and damage and codependency and projecting issues on eachother and such a mess but it's still good. It's still there and it matters and it's good.
> gore/corpse imagery.
> literature/movie references. That's why I love writing Jason, he lets me get away with being as obnoxious with them as possible. It's so much fun!
Do you ever think about the fact you very much have a particular writing quirk/style/habit that even if you were to post anonymously someone could very easily tell It's your work?
I wonder what mine is. I could guess probably

"He looks like if someone very angry tried to draw a boy in charcoal, abandoned halfway through, and then an untalented painter tried to fill-in the blanks in washed-up watercolours."
-Snippet from chapter 12/12 of The Protector: Miracle in Reverse
perhaps i just have my incest and abuse goggles on at all times but its baffling to me how much sexual abuse subtext (or text with any subtlety less than being a narrative entirely and obviously focused around sexual violence, honestly) is just outright ignored and occasionally denied

"She is a lot like him, Talia: she hates those people like nothing else, though he doesn’t (cannot) ask, just as she doesn’t ask. But she’s also very loving, in an intense, all-encompassing way beneath the controlled elegance of her traits; like him, she latches onto love with all her heart, no matter how it bleeds and she bleeds like scalding tea, red hot flooding through the cracks, like lava under rocks."
(From Chapter 11 of The Protector: The Victim)

I got carried away with this Diana doodle while I was taking a break from doing work hehe
