When Jason comes out of the Pit, trauma and a years-old misunderstanding make for an unfortunate combination as he learns other children have fallen under Batman's influence. Now a trained and highly skilled assassin, he will do anything to protect his newest siblings from the demons of his past... Honestly, this would all be a lot easier if everybody just make sure they were talking about the same thing.

Or: a years-old secret leads to Jason kidnapping the Robins to save them from a not-so-evil Batman who just wants his children to be safe.

Chapters: 2/11 Fandom: Batman - All Media Types, Batman: Under the Red Hood (2010), Batman: Hush (2019) Chapter 2 of The Protector is finally out!! This fic is kicking my ass and the research for it definitely got me on a list, but god is it fun to write.

Chapter summary: A couple of people wake up. The batfamily displays some excellent detective skills. Family movie night grows a little tense in the absence of Tim.

Going from detailed outline to full text when you're writing a fic is so funny because the story I've alread written keeps fucking happening to me

Like what do you mean it has a point? When the fuck did that story about misunderstandings and trauma and making fun of the batfam for making assumptions while also feeling sorry for them turn into asking uncomfortable questions about my career choices ? Where did that Diana/Cass parallel come from? Why is my therapist highjacking my story???!!

The Protector chapter 8: The Way The World Ends

"Her face crumples without a warning and Spoiler only has a second to bring a paper basket at her feet before she retches violently. The truth sinks in to the sound of those violent heaves and for a moment, nobody says anything anymore. Even just to hear, without even speaking the words- because hell if that's the thing about taboos, they make it unreal to make it bearable- it's a terrible thing to have to listen to. Dick Grayson, the unshakeable Nightwing, grabs onto Robin's shoulder to keep himself steady. All of them look like they're holding something terrible in their mouth.
