going absolutely bonkers over how much this reddit thread is making me rethink lore

there are a LOT of things that make a LOT more sense when you separate "life force" into a third thing besides soul and memory. i still need time to process all of them. and i have questions about individual scenes/events still, like i want a list of times 生命力 was used in JP but life force wasn't in EN. but holy shit.

Random cruelty will always set Yen off, she's just seen too much of it. Runner-up is definitely people who wield their booksmarts like a cudgel, which means her and Y'shtola have had a tumultuous relationship for a while.

It's not that people can't be smarter than her; Yen has long accepted that she'll never be as educated as people who had access to it since childhood, and one of her closest friends was the wickedly smart Papalymo. It's more the arrogance, the assumption that she's some kind of child that needs to be guided along, that gets her goat.

But yeah, if someone is just being cruel, Yen won't resist the urge to intervene if she feels like she can.

maybe it's common knowledge, but maybe not, and i figured it out independently so i'm gonna share!!!

we've got these emotes like /vexed, that come with these extra visual effects, right? and they're very nice visual effects. but maybe they're not what you're going for. unfortunately, if you pause motion, it pauses too, and you can't get a clean shot without it.

but!!!!!!! if you use the deep freeze effect, the extra visual effects don't freeze. so you can wait it out for a couple seconds, unfreeze yourself, and voila!

pause motion and you've got a clean shot!

other emotes i can confirm it works with (i'm sure there are even more) include /consider, /wow, /frighten, /gratuity, /allsaintscharm, and /loveheart !!!

Post for today's (er, yesterday's, really) ffxiv write will be slightly delayed as AO3 is down and I can't upload anything ;-;
