At fourth of July a while ago, I mentioned off hand to one of my cousins that I don’t plan on having children. I was just making a joke, but I realized they were completely shocked by this, and I was both surprised and angry that they hadn’t been told people like me could exist. They had assumed that all people got old and got married and had children, especially with a partner of the opposite sex.

But not everyone wants that! Aspec people, yeah, but also allos. Some allo people prefer to stay single. A lot choose not to have kids or not to have sex. This isn’t new, and even if it was new, it’s important.

(A few allo examples are: people with trauma, people with health issues, people happier single, people with vows of chastity, people who can’t afford children, people who don’t want children, the list goes on)

Please, everyone, educate your children by letting them know not just that people can fall in love with the same gender, but also that they can never fall in love at all. That some want kids and some don’t and that that’s perfectly normal and good. Not everyone needs love, sex or children to be happy.

All it takes is adding the words ‘some’ and ‘might’ in conversations about love, marriage, children and sexuality.
