Technically We Can Get Here. Since The Fanged Crescent Is Between The Rest Of Othard And The Burn, But
Technically we can get here. Since The Fanged Crescent is between the rest of Othard and the Burn, but we effectually never go there.
Deliberately chose the binary yes/no, but with the caveat that you can be as pedantic as you like because it's about how you FEEL. Are they from Doma but actually that nice farm you can see across the water in Yanxia and so you've never set foot there but you sort of feel at home in the zone? You can click yes. You made them from Dalmascus and an alliance raid runs right past their old front door, but it doesn't feel like a legit place to hang out in game and you're sad they didn't give us a full zone out there? Click no!
I've wondered about this since I started playing because the character creator gives you vague geographic details before you even start and maybe know nothing about the world, and then takes you up to the starter city like you're from somewhere else, and sometimes if you roll a character without knowing the story you end up accidentally Magnai's long-suffering sibling because of your choices and the naming conventions in the randomiser. How much drastic change has that caused or are you sticking with early OC characterisation plans?

He's called a translated version of his name because the echo omnimingual don't know when to stop. Also, while I already knew his family name, I had no idea what name to give, so I just stuck a V in between Raen, and tada, a personal name.
What did you name your WoL, and what made you choose that name?

Did the Eden raids storyline (which was a lot of fun), immediately thought of this the moment I watched the final cutscenes.
It's definitely nothing this time you guys, chill.
I was thinking back to the Dotharl. And their stupid as fuck funerary rite! You don't treat corpse as sacred. That's fine, no problem. But letting wild predators eat them is a fucking bad idea! Eaten by rats, or birds, no problem, even if they develop a taste for au ra flesh, they can't really hunt down humans. But predators?!? The ones living in your immediate territory? No fucking wonder you have problem maintaining population when you literally feed predators to have a taste for au ra. Wonder how many au ra kid got eaten cause they are easy tasty prey. This is so stupid.
Yeah, the mother thing mainly came from SB au ra legend of a hyur/au ra with little scales. Also, base models used until now seem to always be of the mother race. I'm firmly believing that because I don't really want to thknk about what true crossbreeding would do to tailed and non-human eared race. The biological fuckery that would happen and the deformation would be pretty awful. Hell, au ra don't even perceive sound through air but through vibration. Or Hrotghar fur and odd skeletal/facial structure.
since hilda is hyur/elezen.... do you think hyur/miq'ote is possible?? or any other hybrid?? or only that??
Thanks for the ask! :D
I believeeee that in lore panels it's been said all kinds of hybrids are possible between the races, including lalafell/roegadyn. Some "magic" is essentially involved in conception, I presume to account for how differently shaped and sized the races can be.
Encyclopedia Eorzea also states that a lot of "beast tribes" aren't really that different than the accepted races, the word was actually created by Ul'dah to justify barring certain groups from their city as a way to protect trade monopolies. Meaning hybrids with several of the tribes are probably also possible, depending on how similarly they reproduce.
Being said, I suspect that some things are kinda like crossing a chihuahua with a great dane, and would headcanon that certain cross-race hybrids are more difficult or dangerous to carry for the mothers than others. Especially if you're not in a place like Garlemald or Ul'dah where there's access to skilled healers or doctors with resources to manage something like that.
Hybrids are probably pretty rare since lore panels also state that cross-race mixing is frowned upon in most cultures. But I'd be surprised if there weren't a fair few hyur/elezen bastards running around the Brume besides Hilda, given how common illicit noble/maid relationships seem to be. And probably lots of little miqo'te crosses puttering around Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa out of poorer prostitutes without reliable access to effective birth control (and tbh, I'm sure there's plenty of less consensual conceptions)
Also of a note the game does mention an Au Ra/Hyur cross during Stormblood! So that for sure exists!
A pretty interesting point about crossbreed too, is that:
They end up as the race of their mother
Only hyur-born get real trait from their other parent, and you can tell they are crossbreed. Their was Hilda with her pointed ears, and a few hyur with sun-seeker eyes. I think there is an adventurer with pointed teeth too.
Also, this is heavily imply that Hyurgoth are basically just a population of Hyur who interbred with Roe until they became their own people.
Hyur seem to have the more facility to interbreed with the others.
