Cherry Magic Thailand just floored me, y’all.

First of all

I may never recover from this secret smile. But above and beyond Tay Tawan’s beauty, this adaptation did so many things right:

Achi is more subdued sad than hyperactive self deprecating

The humor is pitched less zany and more within the realm of recognizable human behavior

As a result the relationships feel more genuine and less like joke set ups

They did a phenomenal job casting for all the roles

They’ve expanded the story in smart ways that fill in gaps, like Jinta finding the stray cat, and allow them to demonstrate the differences from the Japanese version, like Rock starting new with Achi orienting him

There is palpable physical chemistry between Achi and Karan and Achi is allowed to be more aware of it

As a result of removing the frantic energy around Achi’s character, he’s able to connect more fully with others and be a bit more emotionally perceptive

The swoon factor here is so high, I was having heart palpitations every time Karan appeared

Now I don’t want this to come across as taking digs at the Japanese version—that’s a great show in a style that only the Japanese do really well, which was my main concern about this adaptation. I needed to see them adjust the tone and style to fit better with Thailand’s strengths, and that’s exactly what they did here. New and Tay are fantastic in these roles and it’s all been recalibrated to suit them well. I’m so in!

Day would have been so head over heels in love with Mork already had he been able to see the way Mork looked at him.

He is missing pivotal information because the sense that he's been relying on most does not work for him anymore.

He cannot see Mork both literally and figuratively yet because he's still mostly focused inward and backward. He will get there but he needs time to adjust his senses.

However, he will break Mork's heart and shatter all of his defenses on his road to him.
