Lie to me too

“I’m sad, Potter,” Draco said. His voice was quiet and gruff in the wavering warmth of their bedroom. He paused, and examined the useless healing potions lining the dresser top. “It’s not very fun, you know— being sad.”

As Draco’s sad fingers traced half-empty medicine vials, Harry laughed, wincing at the sharp, blooming pain in his throat and chest. He rasped, “Aw fuck, Draco. It’s okay to be sad.” He grinned, though he couldn’t feel his legs anymore. “Come here, let me see you.”

Draco walked over, stopping at Harry’s bedside. Harry felt Draco’s body heat pulsing beside him, alive. It felt nice; Harry was very, very cold.

Harry lifted a bit of his arm, and groaned with strain. “Hold me,” he said.

“There’s not much left of you to— I’ll hurt you”

“Oh fuck off, Draco. Just hold my hand. I miss feeling you.”

Draco tentatively—so tentatively—brushed against him, rubbing his thumb over Harry’s withered palm. It burned like Fiendfyre.

Draco arched a sad eyebrow. “Happy now?” His voice was clipped, abrupt— that way you talk when your throat aches and aches and you choke it back till you’re strangled.

Harry managed another grin and said, “Now, I want to tell you something”—he lowered his voice—“a secret, really.”

Draco nodded. He was crying.

“Me and Death, we’ll have a nice little chat— I’ll tell Him, ‘Let me go back; see, there’s a scrawny git who insists I come home for our Wednesday soup night, and he’s waiting for me.’ I think Death’ll send me right back to you, don’t you?” Harry laughed as his breath rattled, his muscles atrophied and vocal cords ripped raw. “Lie to me too, if you want.”

“Lie to you… I um… I only married you to avoid Azkaban, clearly.”

“Ah,” Harry smiled. “The Prophet was right all along!” His laugh warped into a bloody, hacking cough. “No, no— it’s alright, Draco. Keep holding me; I promise it doesn’t hurt.”
