Dumping to strangers could backfire - its why i can't do helplines, they don't know me and I cannot trust them to say mostly the right things.
Helplines when done correctly, efficiently and safely can save lives.
Unfortunately the majority of helplines available right now aren't those things. Employees are often volunteers or lowly paid people with no actual education in psychology or therapy and people trying to push religion as a solution or aid even to the detriment of the caller are simply allowed to do so freely.
The helplines and online websites that are staffed properly and by qualified, trusted employees are usually ones you have to pay to access. Which is fair, but does also mean they're inaccessible to many people.
But also, its worth noting that "saying mostly the right things" will always vary individual to individual. Its why I recommend a 1:1 therapist over things like helplines and support groups, because it gives your therapist the opportunity to learn and evolve to your needs over time. It allows them to learn how to impart information and advice to you, and what structures you need in order to benefit.
This is not to demean or undervalue the people who volunteer at or work at a helpline at all. It can be incredibly valuable work, but it is also incredibly precarious and risky work. Saying the wrong thing could quite literally mean the difference between life and death.

Omg that post. (About not every space needing to be political) The amount of people who need every single little "what if this" "what if that" explained to them. It hurts. You cannot account for every single exception or situation and I'm damn well sure they know that but God. They want everyone to hold their hand. Stay strong. You got this.
I'm in a couple of servers that refuse to have dedicated vent spaces and they're very fun to be in and don't have drama. It works.
Yeah, the amount of people who are reading it and immediately launching into accusations of perpetrating racism and bigotry is... Concerning, to say the least. It just goes to show how far we've been pushed into believing that everything is offensive and that unless we're 24/7 "fighting bigotry" that we are the problem.
At this point I've stopped actually attempting to reason with any of them. If they're unwilling to read the literal thousands of other responses detailing why these spaces are viable and necessary, they are simply unwilling to acknowledge they are wrong. Its memes and eye rolling from here on out.

I am actually begging some people to just let some spaces exist untouched by real-world issues and horrors.
Like I've lost count of the amount of times peaceful game or fandom servers have been ruined by people stampeding in with political rants, bitching about world issues, demanding internal activism, demanding vent channels so they can whine about their shitty parents, ect.
Like. Respectfully. Not every single space has to be inclusive of and welcoming of outside topics. The real world sucks. We don't needed to be reminded of that absolutely everywhere.
I moderate a fan server for a gaming YouTuber, and my god the responses you're getting about how not all spaces need a vent channel sound so familiar... our server has a vent channel, but we still have banned topics, and had to put what we informally call the "This Is A Fucking Wendy's Rule" (remember this is a discord server for a youtuber) in our community guidelines. And people complain that we're silencing them or sticking our heads in the sand because we don't allow conversations about politics or wars unless you're venting about being directly affected. Do you not have any better places to talk about this stuff than a youtuber's fan discord???
Some of the stories I'm seeing in the reblogs and the tags are wild. And not just the ones that are agreeable.
(Genuinely, the way some people are losing their fucking minds because I said they aren't entitled to bring their misery into every single space they occupy. They're all reaching so bad for exemptions or justifications and if I roll my eyes any harder they're gonna disconnect.)

According to the various tag and reblog responses on the post, incredibly. It is like asking them to push the stone up the mountain.
at the end of the day, when you are in a server you follow its rules, if it doesn't allow drama, find somewhere that does
This logic means people actually have to think for themselves and let go of their entitlement and I can safely say for a select group of people that is simply not going to happen.
