A Little Kiss Won't Hurt

The TV was doing its job, but failed to keep Loki awake. He was fast asleep on the couch, with his hands folded on his belly, long legs spilled over one armrest, while his head rested on a cushion on the other armrest.

She observed him silently. In the ever-changing lights of the TV monitor, he looked like an angel of peace, travelling through the cosmos, while the glows of the passing stars cast their reflections on his beautiful face.

Damn it! My dramatic head!

Walking stealthily away, she brought back a thin blanket, and covered him up to the waist, before turning the TV off.

Once again she could not tear her eyes off him. She stood there for a while, still as a cat, while her mind fleeted through many different scenarios.

“Loki,” She whispered. “Loki!”

Nothing. His chest heaved up and down peacefully.

She waved a hand so close above his face that she could feel his breath on her palm.

Still nothing.

Clenching and unclenching the air in her fists, she willed her body not to bend down. She tried her best not to place a feathery kiss on his forehead. Or to run a hand over his raven hair.

But her resolution was as weak as her knees at the moment.

Gathering herself quickly, she stood straight up and looked for any signs of acknowledgement on his face.

Nothing.

Very slowly, she let out a long breath of relief.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered as softly as humanly possible, “I couldn’t resist. You look so...angelic! But...you may wipe it off if you don’t like it. I...I won’t mind...I mean...it’s okay. I-I’ll go now. Good night! Sleep well, my King!”

And just as quietly as she had entered the room the second time, she left.

Once inside the safety of her bedroom, she finally allowed herself a muted scream and a little dance before jumping on the bed with a crazy grin glued to her face.

But in her attempts to run into her room, and curtain the fireworks in her heart, she failed to notice the affectionate smile that had formed on the trickster’s features, just seconds before she closed her door.
