And about roles, it depends on how you see Max/Lewis.

For example, if you want both of them to stay like they're now (from their personalities' view), I'd say that they're both in different mafias, maybe leaders or members with different ranks.

However, if you want to say that Max or Lewis is a a normal person and the other is corrupted, then make it so that they either stumble into this mess by accident or that the mafia one pulls the normal one into it, either scaring him for his life or manipulating him to enjoy that life.

Or, if you love it really corrupted, use an arranged marriage to strongen the hate between them while making sure that this hate might get bunded up so that there's more conflict between them, more anger and a higher chance of blowing up.

But you do you. If you don't see theem in any of these, just try to decide what you'd like them to do and then how they could do this. So, just create the rough outline of your idea and then go into detail.
